ORIGINAL: MrRodgers So let's understand this correctly. I think correct understanding is a long way away. quote:
The world ends a world war and forms something called the United Nations with little or no Arab participation. Then that UN decides without that Arab participation or recognition to divide up Palestine into two states, one for the Palestinians and one for a country called Israel. Let's see if we can modify your reinvention of history just a bit. The Ottomans kick the Jews out of their ancestral homeland - land which they'd occupied for millenia - and proceed to settle their own people throughout. Many Arabs end up under Ottoman rule, but think nothing of settling land formerly held by the Jews. The Ottomans get their asses kicked and the land formerly held by them is established under British rule. Note, however there was - and never has been - a country called Palestine nor a people called Palestinians. These people are Arabs, pure and simple. The Balfour declaration of 1917 was an integral component of the peace treaty with the Ottomans and was accepted by Fasal I when he signed the Faisal-Weizmann agreement. The establishment of a Jewish state within Palestine had been a concern for a number of years as Jewish persecution in Europe was an ongoing issue. Effectively aliens in all countries, the Jewish people - dispossessed of their home - had nowhere to turn and wanted their country back. Now, the land which the Arabs had occupied was simply another part of their already significant occupation of the Middle East. The 6% of land of which you speak was land legally purchased. The remainder was NOT "Arab-owned" in the sense of small individual plots, it was under the domain of the Turks and many of the tenant farmers simply ignored or didn't understand the registries which specified who owned the land they farmed. Basically the Jews bought land with poor soil which nobody wanted and nobody farmed. The rest was owned primarily by large, wealthy Arab families - and much of it was practically unusable. quote:
Why then: .....did the 1947 UN partition of Palestine allocate 56% of Palestine for a Jewish state when they owned just 6% of the land and formed 30% of the population ? Was this the reason this conflict has lasted for so long ? That statement is a complete and utter fabrication. Perhaps you'd be able to argue better if you had the faintest fucking idea of what you're talking about. In 1948 the state of Israel had been partially established by the League of Nations mandate. 8.6% of the land was owned by Jews and 3.3% by Israeli Arabs. 16.9% had been abandoned by Arabs who'd been told by their Arab brothers to get out of the way so the invading Arab armies could make short work of Israel. The remainder of the land (roughly 70%) was vested in the British Mandate and Israel subsequently inherited it, however the majority of this 70% was the fucking Negev. IE: It was desert or near-desert. And the Arabs sure as shit weren't cultivating that because they were fucking terrible at cultivating anything. Basically more than half of Israel is desert. If you want to argue that the Israelis drove the Arabs off this land, you're more than welcome, but you'll be looking like a fucking moron because it's patently untrue. That's not even mentioning that the Arabs already occupied massive lands all around Israel, and the British had already given TransJordan to the Arabs anyway. But no, you're right, the carving out of a small section including Jerusalem (which is not negotiable) was a real hardship. Arabs might actually have to live near Jews without feeling entitled to kill them. Oh, but I forgot, their esteemed prophet commands them to kill Jews. #IslamReligionofWar Mind you none of this mattered - because as soon as the UN plan was announced, the Arabs immediately rose up and began to murder their Jewish neighbours. You know, because Islam is such a peace-loving religion and all. #IslamReligionofWar quote:
56% of Palestine's land was to become a Jewish state, 43% to become a state for the Arabs. Horseshit. Try fact-checking, fucktard. I'll add that the notion of the peaceful Palestinian farmer profitably working his land until driven off by the Jewish immigrant is a complete fiction. In reality the farmers had little legal status and were constantly being raided by the Bedouin who were incredibly fond of mobile banditry. As a result the people were poor, ignorant and often ended up ceding their land to large wealthy landholders and buggering off to Beirut, Damascus or Cairo. So yeah, some wealthy landholders were pissed off by the partition, but fuck 'em. They were exploiting their own people anyway. quote:
The Jewish State was to include 85% of Palestine's agricultural land. Horseshit. A complete fiction. More than 50% of Israel is the Negev and the Arabs were renowned for their poor methods of cultivation. They weren't growing shit in the Negev. Look it up, you ignorant buffoon. quote:
(oh and doing do, depending upon who you read...resulted in forcing the removal of 750,000 Arabs from THEIR land) Horseshit. This is another piece of fiction pretty much like EVERY OTHER CLAIM you've made. Educate yourself. You're appallingly ignorant.
