Those that work there shouldn't work there if the conditions are that bad. And, why haven't those people gotten together to start a company to compete with WalMart? Why are so many people willing to work under such poor conditions?

Obviously, I can't speak for people I don't know, but here are a few hypotheses:

-- Lack of education/skills needed to pursue better opportunities

-- Lack of connections (Personal contacts have gotten me into the door for almost all my jobs.)

-- Lack of savvy to navigate a challenging world

-- Being tethered to a low-opportunity area due to an unsellable house and/or family ties

-- Lack of cash to move elsewhere

Barbara Ehrenreich's Nickel and Dimed: On (Not) Getting By in America offers a fascinating look into the "Walmart world."

That's your reasoning for not allowing rich people to keep the money they have earned? Because they might do bad stuff with it?
Not even getting into the fact that you apparently have no clue what Warren Buffet does with his money and plans to do with his money in the future,...
But a society"s economic system should be built on the idea of what someone 'might' do with what is theirs?

Just think of all the "Bad things" someone who didn't earn the money could do with it. Bet that never crossed her tamaka's mind.

Like the government you mean?

Not just the government, but government could be described as not having earned the money.

Fine. The government didn't earn the money. My flight was a bit more bumpy because of air traffic tower not directing around the storm early enough. The stop sign at a local intersection was bent last night by a severe storm and it wasn't fixed as of this morning. While driving I had to stop for a red light this afternoon, quite against my intentions. The firetruck showed up two minutes late for my neighbor's kitchen fire. My condo president had to sit in court all the way until noon before giving testimony against a service company we hired, even if that resulting in judgement against them. This is unacceptable.

If those guys want to earn their money, they'll have to do better than that. Otherwise I'm stopping payment next month.

Just what exactly is the 'problem' here, tamaka?

In the first place, the author of the article started out with the false firebomb that Buffett made $12 Billion last year "By doing nothing" in purpose to intentional misdirection. Which of course you fell head over heels for. Just another instance of your bending over and looking back to see who will kiss it this time. After that gulling, the author's point was that Berkshire Hathaway didn't sell or buy many shares last year, that's all.

If you care about workers at all, quit worrying about who is 'making too much money' and let's address the first question by itself, shall we?

The problem is that we have the 1% with all of the money. I don't agree with that outcome being 'Good'. Do you Edwird dear?

I don't care how much others are making, the $20-60 million bonuses, etc.

But if you're in that echelon, it would behoove you to prove your worth to the company and to society, not just your Hapsburg-jawed brothers and sisters on the board of directors.

I'm a stickler for details. The one % don't have all the money, the lowest of them make only $200k or so. And even after that, after the .1 and .01 %, ...

That's not the entire problem

I wish I had more microeconomic skills than I can put forth, but in any case I am convinced that working at it from the lower end of the situation is the way to go.

Just as you like it, from the lower end of things ....

Oh my.

Ok that's a good suggestion. So let's try this... how can demand be created if 99% don't have any purchasing power?

Yes, the influx of Mexicanos and Central and Sud Americanos keep wages lower in the US, no avoiding that.

All the more reason to turn our education system to the task before us.

I believe the fact that they hold the greater portion of the shares indicates as such (which....for the record would indicate they've invested the larger % of THEIR dollars in the enterprise)....................would indicate....they're "all in"....(as opposed to others.....who are.....uhhhmmm....not).

That's fairly simple actually....

GET purchasing power.
