What is it?  I mean, I know what it IS, I mean, is there a ceremony?  Is it supposed to reflect the individual?  Is the collar an exclusively Gorean thing?  How much like a engagement/wedding ring is it?  Please, let me know about this.

What is it?

It's a collar.

quote:

I mean, I know what it IS, I mean, is there a ceremony?

Sometimes.

quote:

Is it supposed to reflect the individual?

Not necessarily.

quote:

Is the collar an exclusively Gorean thing?

No.

quote:

How much like a engagement/wedding ring is it?

As much as the involved parties want it to be.

There is no standard aside from what the involved parties agree upon.

A collar is a symbol of commitment. It is however often used in "scene play".
For each wearer it means something a little different.
In our case it is best described as a "wedding ring on steroids that cannot be removed by either party"

The lazy method that I use is to simply copy and paste the html address and then type the subject title under it.

There is a way to create a hyperlink itself, but since they took the "link" tab out of the space it was in, I haven't been motivated enough to figure out the new system.

To me a Collar goes on if both the Dominant and the sub agree that the sub should evolve into an owned slave.
Yes, I consider it to be like a wedding ring and Permanent.

To me a collar is a very important symbol of my Pet belonging to me and for me taking responsibility for her. As far as permant, no I wouldn't say that since so many things are impermanent. If a Pet became not my Pet then she would not be wearing my collar anymore.. just jewlry.

Wow two collar questions close together.

Well i  have only been "collared" once and it was my first Master in 2001.. but with what i know now it was bogus..but a learning experience none the less! Now i know perceive it as being with a Dominant i want to serve exclusively and give my all too...

A collar symbolizes whatever you and your dom want it to symbolize.

The collar is different for everyone.  For Me and Mine, the collar is a symbol of our relationship.  It's more permanent than a wedding ring and more meaningful as well.

In my case, when i offered a collar to my sub, it was something i had made by hand, as i do  chainmaille. It was just something i had been making and i decided to make it as a chocker style necklace. then the day came when i made the decision to offer it to her as her collar. It was unexpected for her, and i simply placed it around her neck, and whispered in her ear that it was more than a necklace, that it was a collar and it was her c hoice to allow me to fasten it on her neck... happily she allowed this.
