Trump Sets Off Backlash With Attack on Civil Rights Icon

Outrage over President-elect Donald J. Trump’s criticism of Representative John Lewis is driven by what many blacks see as his lack of understanding of their reverence for the civil rights movement.

Several members of Congress said they would not attend the inauguration, and would meet with activists to discuss strategies to oppose Mr. Trump’s administration.

Did you see the response Pence gave?
Pence defends Trump calling John Lewis a failure to black people

Pence seems to believe Trump will be better for black people than one of the most famous civil right leaders.

Does the Times mention that your black icon made a racist attack against President Trump first, called him illegitimate? And why doesn't the thread mention that

Or mention that MLK's niece voted Trump

Well, if you bothered to read it, you'd know the answers to both questions.

Probably for the same reason that the rightist sources which have been whining about Obama dissing their boy aren't referencing that the shitweasel is a longstanding birther.

Why bother reading your fake news sources, they're all bullshit

Even far left NBC has far more balanced coverage

Sure. Cover your ears, sing "la-la-la" really loud, and don't bother to see that the bullshit you're questioning doesn't exist, except in your head.

Make America Dumb Again.

We get it. Lewis was harsh. Donald was harsh. It's biting his ass. That's the story.

Right or wrong, that's what's going on.

In the real world.

President Trump doesn't take any shit from anybody, even if its a racist black snowflake or even a fake news-pusher snowflake in a news conference

It's smashmouth politics, and PRESIDENT trump is beating the alt left Alinsky trash at their own game

That's the story, and people love him for that

It's true -- he doesn't take anything from anyone . . . shit or intel or good advice. And frustrated rednecks love it.

What he DOESN'T do is have any thought-through plans he can articulate.

Smashing things isn't hard. Building things is another matter.

"You're fired!" and rebuilding a country aren't the same.

He isn't smashing anything, that's your fantasy. And his plans are going to bowl you over

He stands up to alt left wild-eyed loons, but that's what he was elected to do

Obama and Obama's "intelligence" picks and other radicals he has appointed attack President Trump, alt left "news" propagandists attack him, your race hustlers attack him, and he doesn't give a fuck - he gives it right back

Good on him, that's exactly what we want

Poor little alt left snowflakes are melting, and need their crayons and their safe spaces, but that's okay too

Give them their participation trophies and tell them they're all winners and they will understand, I am sure

You're setting yourself up, John

Keep telling yourself that President Trump has no plans, no ideas... Just remember - you were warned!

The spin in strong in this one. Lewis attacked Trump, saying that he was not a "legitimate president". Trump's response:

"Congressman John Lewis should spend more time on fixing and helping his district, which is in horrible shape and falling apart (not to mention crime infested) rather than falsely complaining about the election results," Mr. Trump wrote on Twitter on Saturday.

Ya think? But possibly the best quote in the piece is this one:

Mr. Neal added that while other presidents, like Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton, may have imposed policies that hurt black communities, they were more sensitive to issues of race.

They imposed policies that hurt black communities, but they were "sensitive to race." Does that even make sense?

K.

One result John Lewis achieved as an activist was the Fair Housing Act of 1968, targeting racist landlords. The one Trump was sued under.

See, folks here assume instead of reading. At least you read!

But none of that is in question. Readily acknowledged.

The point is -- the game is on now. "Who started it" isn't going to pacify anyone. It's president-elect against civil rights icon, whomever is right or wrong.

And that will have repercussions -- right or wrong.

One more fight in Washington that I wish wasn't taking place, but it's not like no one has ever questioned a president's legitimacy before. Trump is well known for questioning Obama's legitimacy for years with the birther movement.

And as for his comments regarding Lewis' district, Georgia’s Fifth Congressional District includes parts of wealthy areas like Buckhead; the world’s busiest airport, Hartsfield-Jackson; the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention; Emory University, and the Georgia Institute of Technology.

And from David Axelrod, a former senior adviser to President Obama:
https://twitter.com/davidaxelrod/status/820278229491744768
I disagree with what @repjohnlewis said, but I honor the man he is. Honesty; integrity; courage-these are qualities you just can't buy.

It's like children: "She started it!"

Trump certainly ran with it, for quite some time.

Well actually they didnt felchgobbler, but Trump can hardly question the illegitimacy of Obamas Presidency as he did, and then whine and shit his pants like a nazi felchgobbler when his is questioned.

Dont get me wrong now, nutsuckers whine and shit their pants constantly, look at you, felchgobbler, and one would expect no more from him, and they would not be disappointed, of course he is going to do that, just not over questions of his illegitimacy.
