I usually avoid threads that get over 5 pages, I figure that if they are that long already there is some flamefest afoot so I usually do not even read the thread. I was just trying to read that thread mentioned in the OP and gave up outta boredom. I do not care about how many BBWs there are in the lifestyle.. why should I if I am not sexually interested in them? I will say that there can be good discussions, it all depends on who is posting on that particular day.

Oh, I dunno, juliaoceania, I just ate half a pint of ice cream while reading the last 10 pages of the fat submissive thread,  lol.  <wanders off to read the emotional masochist thread>..........

That made me laugh... thanks

Me too!

I'm in Julia's camp on this one.  When I see the page count zooming upward like a rocket, I'll peek in to confirm if it's a flame-fest or if it is a really good discussion.  If it's a flame-fest, I'm gone.

Now where's that ice cream...lol good one catize :)

If it's a well thought out well reasoned post most people agree with it and there isn't much to say.

I think I posted something along these lines earlier:

If it is a serious thread, and everyone agrees, it will be boring after 10 posts.

If not everyone agrees, people can either state their opinions and back off (10-30 posts) or debate them briefly, parting with agree to disagree (30-50 posts)

So really, a serious thread without shitslinging shouldn't exceed 4 pages.

Now, if a flame war starts, it's in random stupidity, or I join in, all bets are off.

Yours,

benji

If you want to see an endless thread, ask for the definition of "Old Guard". On second thought, don't.

I'll tell you why, its because of all the posting freaks out there who try to have many posts, they look for easy to reply to issues.

That often a one sentence post gathers twenty some pages of posts and a well thought out reasoned posted gets one or two?

I've watched this thread on overweight bdsm women go like the energizer bunny and several other posts that were intelligent and weren't designed to flip people's triggers just die of lack of response.

Because well thought-out posts that are well-reasoned tend to do one of two things...they either state things in a way that nobody...even if they disagree with the point of the post...can find anything to argue about or they get the attention of those that look for something to argue about because they don't like the poster or they don't like the topic or something, no matter how well-reasoned and thought-out the OP is.  Those on the first side either state their agreement and add a little something (or not) or they state that they disagree and here's why and it is all done civilly.  Those in the second group are either ignored because their post is seen by most for what it is...argumentative for no reason...or they are told they are wrong and then, left alone.  No flames from those responding to the arguers, just quiet comments that they are being picky or reading the OP wrong.  With no one picking up on their argument in a heated way, interest dies and people wander off looking for a bit more excitement.

I too have seen some of these well though-out posts...even posted one, if I might be allowed to be conceited enough to say/think so...and have seen just what you have seen.  Sad but true.

I think it's the KISS (Keep It Simple S%^&) applies on boards. Most people check in to see what the new discussion is and if you have to read a lengthy dissertation on it- they just don't want to take the time or they come back later when they have the time. My suggestion is to state the meat of the question, then participate in your own forum with other thoughts that you would have initially put into your post.  A spoon feeding technique.

....Often makes me feel like most here don't want to learn anything, they just want a forum version of the Jerry Springer show.  A bit disheartening since its the good discussions and exchange of knowledge I enjoy the most.  I can quite live without the Jerry Springeresque circus.

ding-Ding-DING!  Padriag, as usual, nails the bullseye, on the nose.  Which is why I, personally, don't post so much anymore.  When I find someone who appears to be genuinely seeking answers and I have something positive to contribute, I will.

And I have to confess that someone occassionally finds where I've hidden my goat that day and I'll pop a troll on the ass with my rolled up newspaper and say "BAD BOY!"

Of course then I stop because I think they like that sort of thing.  Silly trolls!

YIK,
- Geoff

Just all depends on what I am in the mood for. Usually two things spark my interest, great wit and humour or intelligent well thought out ADULT conversation. All too often threads disintegrate into boring arguments with many attachments and links as to why the one posting is wrong and everyone else is right.....boring as hell. OR into chatroom idle chatter......also very boring for me. I am just not a fan of the girlfriend-idle chatter. Could explain why I spent more time with animals than other girls in my earlier years.....

I have seen a few threads that I was really bummed because they never took off and I would have loved to have seen more input.
