Use the KISS principal; minimal apps and taskbar monitors running.

Yes I am. But wait. several points to be made. Bad code, this site. Period. 2 the hosts file does not block google-analytics nor anything else, since they make it all the way to the browser app.

That is quite a way up the stack.

I realize I dont, I have several computers. xp, 7, 10....8s were such dogshit I couldnt even. in all cases, the site hangs.
its the site, and the hosts trick (I see it out there on google) obviously does not work.

So, we are back to hopefully after about a year of this going on so far, the dogshit code will be fixed sometime in the next 10 years.

I'm only experiencing issues with the main P&R page. Posts come up fine, no matter where they're linked, whether from within other posts, the Search function, or the "Latest Post" link on the main P&R page. But getting the main page can be frustrating. I usually draw a blank a few times, occasionally quite a bit more than a few, before it finally loads. And when it comes up blank, even "View Source" comes up blank! Also, it continues to be the case that the link to P&R on the main Forums page is different from the P&R links at the top and bottom of each of the pages within a topic. Go figure.

Edited to add: Windows 7 and Firefox 50.1.0

Ron, the hosts file, if done correctly, effectively blocks the site.
It does that by telling windows to resolve it locally within the DNS rather than go look for it on the 'net.

Yes, the browser app asks for it (that's where the request is initiated from) but it never looks outside your own machine for it, never on the 'net.
It doesn't go to the browser, it's a request from the browser to load the requested page from the HTML/script it is processing at the time (the site you are using).
So unless you have that site's whole web, it's structure and supporting code on your machine (not just the web page), it will always fail to find it.

In my case, those sites I have listed in my hosts file never ever load.
I always get the message "Cannot access the requested site. The site could be down or it could be busy. Check you have typed the correct address" etc etc.
Even if I type the actual address into the address bar directly - it never finds it.
So when I'm surfing, I'll see failed areas in web pages (where it can't find the web page/advert it wants) or I get pop-up/pop-under windows with the failed access message because the script creates the new window then can't reach the site it wants.

If you are finding it is resolving the address and getting to the site, it's either defined incorrectly in the hosts file or you haven't rebooted since you added it.
Windows only loads it once at boot time.

Yes, this site has bad code. I'm not disputing that fact.
Some of it looks like it's been coded by a 6yo from kindergarden.
It's old, very old. It's very rickety. It's been patched to hell and back. It's badly maintained (if at all).
But I get around the crazy problems it generates by not allowing it to access the two main things that are the root cause of them - the bad implementation of the Bing advert and Google-analytics which are inherently slow.

Just like the way they've implemented the cloud access with this site.
It works for most people most of the time and with most browsers, even via a VPN, but not if you use the Tor browser - it doesn't behave properly and often fails or gets stuck.

I do get the odd hiccup from CS where cloud tells me CS is busy and couldn't connect (that [in]famous Error 522/523 or a timeout).
I think I caught it once when CS was down for maintenance for a couple of hours.
But I can count those on one hand for the whole of 2016.

Kirata made a couple of observations further up.
1) And when it comes up blank, even "View Source" comes up blank!
That's more likely that your page request has completely failed.
Chrome does that a lot with me.
You'll also get that if the request never reached its target and that often happens when the data packet gets lost en-route - a common problem with wireless connections.
Basically, your browser is waiting for a response.

2) Also, it continues to be the case that the link to P&R on the main Forums page is different from the P&R links at the top and bottom of each of the pages within a topic. Go figure.
This is simply bad coding on the part of the site.
It's basic inconsistency when setting it up.
The sort of thing I'd get fired for if I did it as part of my job.
It's the sort of mistake that just 'happens to work'.
If anything moves within the structure of the site, it'll break it and it won't work any more.
I suspect that is the problem with some of the features that used to work on here but don't any more.
They moved something on the server [a folder or set of files] and it broke the functionality.

And She (shes hot hehehe-what) is the only person/site that took time to answer many/all of my questions, even my rambles – all of those too.

Do you know how many fet answered 0% - still saddens me that..it cost me lots of bans & my friends banned....and i was the only person on there who forewarned them...I think they are trying to get there, or somewhere - that kinda escapes me.

But this place does not give a shag about any of you and that is truly worse...i told you...the forums on here...one day this site will simple just vanish

I almost said this on the other thread. (Got busy, yadda, yadda.) Truthfully, this would be a great time for a new site to capitalize on people being unhappy with the slow loading times, etc. I'm not going to be one of the folks that crosses over. My 'dating' life is pretty full, so I'm not in the 'seeking' category. I actually don't entertain the idea of a second sub when the one I have has a romantic component to the dynamic. If you were banned from Fet prior, or had dealings with the CareBears that didn't go in your favor, it's not the current state of affairs. I agree with some of it.

Let's say, hypothetically, that you owned a club or were the organizer for a multiple day convention. To promote such, it makes perfect sense to create a Fet group to promote the same. Depending on the view, that could be described as promoting their own agenda.

I don't see these as the same as groups set up by the likes of T**_W*** or M***M****. (Hope I did that right.) I consider these completely different categories.

The optimist in me wants to say one year to two. The business sense of me says roughly six months.

As I said on the other thread, the fact that the site is supposedly losing money now, is new information to me. If that is correct, that's only going to go on for so long. I think E*** banked on that "toy" tab increasing revenue. I'm thinking it didn't. Not to the degree needed. Granted, I haven't had an in-depth conversation about the financials of the joint since over a year ago.

Don't know. We'll see. I probably won't be around until the site's last breath.

Ladypact I dont actually know the man (its really hard for me to comment on excited utterances- truly) - my cost (to any site - yes i offered it to fet x many epochs- he chose to surround himself with many hobgoblins) is one muffin, for I have time on my hands, and i can assure you I can be 100% impartial and 100% sensible (honest) and I dont hate the English ;) dont tell anyone....

I think you've made a mistake in the above. At least a part of those comments, I believe, should have been directed at Lucy. She's the Brit. I'm not. Ah, didn't know your personal policy had changed. None of my business, of course, but did it end up being a time thing? No matter what a person does for a living, even when their occupation lets them be more time flexible, there's still only so many hours in a day.

Perhaps I was not clear. I respond to everyone. And it does take time, but again, that's how I see right. I am here, I enjoy the many contacts I make, I give back and reply, even if it's, "No, thank you."

I don't continue to reply to everyone. Some are just not worth it, so I say, "No, thank you. I won't reply again."

I was just saying that my reply policy has always been the same, and it was much later that I chose to also write, because I felt I had things to give back, and eventually, I chose to develop as well, for similar reasons.
