This subject may have been discussed elsewhere but maneuvering around on this site is painfully slow, if even possible, and very difficult to search or follow conversations. I am wondering if it is just my computer or are others experiencing the same frustrations.

I am using a windows 10 computer with Chrome as a browser... but I also have the same problems on an Iphone 6 Safari. Perhaps someone has a solution or work-around to the problems.

As I have mentioned in that other thread, I don't appear to be suffering at all.
At least not the same symptoms that others have documented.

My solution was posted on that other thread.

No you are not alone. Many of us have these problems and they have been going on for weeks-months. Win 10 and chrome I use.. But from reading the threads the last couple of weeks it’s affecting almost all people no matter their device – why it doesn’t affectFD , or him less than almost us all, I can’t say.

I almost never visit the chat rooms.
Main page and profiles ive never had any problems loading – mines seem reserved for loading the forum pages.

the cause and what is being done about....no idea and probably nothing.

Edit as FD has added something below this PC is hard wired - ive never used my laptop or phone for this place. And he has added a potential solution

Solution -
Don't use WiFi/wireless connections.
People don't realise how often data packets are re-sent because of temporary hiccups and dropouts of the signal.
I ran several tests using an ancient Dell 9300 laptop that has a single-core CPU.
Wireless is 11x slower than being hard-wired via the same router, to CS and other sites, despite having a 10-fold better capacity (theoretically).
So use a hard-wired connection if at all possible.

Totally block Bing and Google-analytics from your machine.
By that, I mean stop your machine even accessing those sites, not by using things like AdBlocker which only stops it displaying after it has gotten the results back.
A lot of delays and time-outs are due to waiting for these two sites.
Those two things alone seems to have stopped about 99% of all hiccups and page lags/blank screens from CS.

I rarely wait for more than a second for anything from CS and it usually responds in a blink.
I use the same hosts file for all my 17 machines here and not one of them, old and not-so-old, suffer when accessing CS.
Add a handful of other rather annoying advert sites to the hosts file and my surfing is 99.999% smooth, with no lags or other hiccups (and obviously less adverts to see on my screen).

That's about it, basically.


ETA: I hate chrome because I found it to be slower than FireFox and didn't always render some pages properly.
I currently use XP/Win7 Ultimate with FF v51.0.
Mainly 32-bit systems but also a few 64-bit systems.

The front page of CollarChat loads up just fine for me, but the front page of this messageboard is agonizingly slow, and many times doesn't load up, requiring reloading. The individual threads load up just fine, but the pages showing the various threads load incredibly slow.

Yeah, no, already done that, its not the problem. I am hard wired have blocked bing and google-analytics, and many more, the issue is a hang up on the transition from the fora to a forum there are unhandled exceptions, so the code goes out in the ozone, which is one issue that causes it, and there may be more.

How have you blocked Bing, Ron?

Via hosts or by using an Ad Blocker??


btw: your pages going into the ozone due to unhandled exceptions, I found that happened an awful lot with Chrome.
One of the reasons I dumped it (apart from no longer supporting XP).

I use a hardwired connection on my desktop. Love it. I just installed the Google Analytics Opt Out Extension to Chrome, closed and reopened Chrome, and it did load much quicker and without any failures.

I dont need to put the www. in there do i?

For most things, I noticed you need the WWW bit as well.
Because if Windows has to use the resource locator, that means it's looking it up via the 'net.
By that time, it's too late.

The whole trick is to tell Windows not to look for the URL but to resolve it locally within the DNS.
However, a lot will depend on how the site is referenced from the source HTML/script.
For some (like 'adrotator.se'), that's how it is usually called and Windows sees the match and will act on it.
But to make sure with some things (like Bing), the whole site address is needed.

Scrappy thing like Google-analytics was a tricky one for me.
Sometimes it resolved to the .COM site.
Other times, the site coding was clever and re-routed it to the UK entry point because I'm in the UK.
So I have them both in my hosts file - just to be doubly sure.

Oh, and don't forget the ::1 entry if you are using IPv6.
If the normal IPv4 doesn't resolve the DNS reference, it'll use IPv6 if you have it installed.

no real difference. and google analytics is still blocked by ghostery first and ublock pro second.
bing never comes up, I have no bing anything on my computer, it is massive junk.

Are you using chrome or safari?

'Coz that's one of the main reasons I dumped chrome.
Chrome worked for most sites, but not all; CS was one of the casualties.
There are some sites where chrome just craps out completely or renders it soo badly that it makes the site unreadable/unusable.

ETA: Ghostery is just another blocker application.
It blocks the site when it recognises what is coming into your machine.
It doesn't stop it resolving the URL within the DNS and access to the site itself like the hosts file does.

And, fwiw, having too many apps running (and often fighting each other or passing from one app to the next like a pipeline) can be just as detrimental as not having any apps in the first place.
Just like all those crappy so-called browser helpers and add-ons.
Every single one you have running will have your data packets passed thru them to see if they want to act on it.
Keep add-ons to a bare minimum.
Most people don't need more than one app doing the same job - it just slows your machine down.
Use the KISS principal; minimal apps and taskbar monitors running.

Not for me WD.
The merest pause on my very old/slow laptop - barely time for a blink.
On this PC (my main one), I can't detect any delay at all (it's too fast!). [8D]

Yes for me - it will always load by the 2-3 FD..so its not the server.....bad advert do you think - but i dont see any ads on http://www.collarchat.com/ You said something curious the other day in that you were from the UK - as am I - bit more north as you know...but I open the page up in a new window twice usually..and thats enough for one of the two to load.....Anyone having worse problems? or not opening the page in a new window, or times twice?

So my next question is are there two different servers?
