So I won't be living in it when it happens. Aren't they the ones who supply your military that protect you from all of your giant muslim neighbors? Funny thing about 'saving people' is that 90% of the time, historically speaking, the people 'saved' get fucked over worse than they were to begin with. First it was the Spanish colonial expansion and the argument that they (the English) had to save the natives from the natives. Then every other European country got in on the act. So, the natives of whatever country that were saved ended up as slaves, second class citizens or just exterminated. The US fought, either overtly or covertly, enough bush wars during the cold war using the "saving the world from communism" and we see how that turned out. The same can be said for the Soviets. Oh, I agree that the women in many Islamic countries are treated unfairly. But, by what right, do any of the countries or peoples of the rest of the world has to justify forcing change on anybody? Hell I got neighbors that wont let their kids dance or listen to rock music for religious reasons, so I have the right, since I think that is fucked up, to go over and beat the parents into changing their opinion? What about the christian denominations that refuse to use modern medicine? Woman goes into labor, dies in child birth because she lost too much blood and the religion states they cannot receive blood transfusions or blood products that could have saved her life? Sorry folks, but, regardless of right or wrong, no one is justified in forcing their beliefs on to someone else. In some of these countries, women are standing up. Hell, women didnt get the legal right to vote in many western countries until the 20th century, and for the longest time, women, even in our progressive societies, were little more than property, and all of that was based on Christians interpreting the bible. Now in direct response to the person who started this thread, I give you World Report 2015: Singapore a nice list of human rights violations for Singapore. FYI, the US, and half the 'progressive' western nations have nice little tidbits on that website. So, people in glass houses, pot/kettle etc. Bottom line, clean up your own yard first. And considering some of the crap spewed by the op, put your computer, smart phone and any other internet capable device back in the boxes they came in, and then go piss up a rope.

But to my knowledge, there are plenty of gays and lesbians here and nobody has been prosecuted for being gay or lesbians since I was born. Otherwise, imagine our annual Pink dot, where you got a huge gathering of gay and lesbians at a specific area. The government could sweep in and arrest everybody, but nope. Infact the government prosecuted someone who simply say on facebook that he wants to take a gun and shoot them all. They jailed him. I would say our human violations are no where near to stoning gays and lesbians to death or stoning women who were raped to death. Preventing women from driving, from leaving the country, from voting.

It's almost as if there's a portion of these "protestors" has the mind set of: "Things suck. I'm gonna steal some free shit" As far as I'm concerned, as soon as there's an act of violence committed at one of these "protests", the whole lot of 'em should be locked up. Greta, as usual, you missed the point entirely. I never said that America was perfect. Never made the claim in any way shape or form. I used the report on Singapore as an example as with the others concerning religious beliefs. But you brought up the anti drug laws. So, consider this, the laws in both countries are pretty much cut and dried. The problem is that addicts as well as dealers have the same penalty. Now granted, since there have been a proven link between addiction and genetics, execute enough addicts and you end the addiction problem. But is that a true solution? You speak of women's rights in Muslim countries, and I agreed that in many cases it is wrong. But I have to point out, that the situation you present is not the fact in ALL Muslim countries. You also completely ignored some prime examples of some Christian denominations which, although executing a rape victim is not a problem, allowing for the marrying of under age girls is, just as in some Muslim countries. Also there is the denial of modern medical treatments for everything from gangrene to women who die during child birth from blood loss. But it is perfectly acceptable for that crap because they believe in the basic Christian philosophy. Parents sign a legal document recognized by the courts, a 13 year old girl can be married to a 40 year old man. It is legal, and it is not statutory rape in any state, or in most 'Christian' countries. I can give you another example in the US. Native Americans. Legally they have every right as every other citizen. Reservation schools and medical facilities should be on par as with any other community or city in the United States. Housing should be, according to law, on par with housing in every other community in the United States. Reality is something totally different. Visit a reservation today, especially those west of the Mississippi river, and go out beyond the 'tourist' town where the casino is located, and you are going to find people living in conditions that make the third world look like Beverly Hills. My point is that no country is perfect, every country and religion has its problems, its 'human rights' violations. And no person or country from the outside has the right to tell them how to run their country, legal system or religion. Its for the people themselves to change it. Unless of course, you are willing to accept that if the US got tired of some of the 'acceptable' policies in your country, dealing with your fellow citizens, we were perfectly justified in sending in troops to take your leaders out.

Because it brings their agenda into focus and into the spotlight. It was so effective, it spanned the world and encompassed millions of supporters. It worked.... very well. And FYI, most of them aren't in the US so they couldn't vote if they wanted to. The voting part is a red herring because it wasn't about voting.

End of the day, my country is an example of how good dictatorship works to bring progress to a country in so little time. Only 50 years old. And as the population got educated, how they slowly slowly transform to reflect more of a democractic society, loosening their reins. Essentially, the government wants to nurture this whole nation of uneducated backwards people, which we were, to be a capable democracy of informed and educated people. It is arguable if Hitler and Stalin and Mao were for themselves or for improving the lives of their people. Alot of third world country are struggling because, they try to do democracy, but they don't have the informed educated population to vote for the right reasons. So their progress will be alot slower than ours, because it will take awhile for uneducated bunch to vote in the right person who can bring the country forward to a better place. They will continually keep voting the wrong person for awhile before they get there.
