i was hypnotised when i was considerably younger but getting into this scene i have found myself thinking about it again. i am very cautious letting anyone have control of me as a submissive (mostly fear related) and feel that it is something i may end up looking into.

These are my feelings exactly. There would be no need for hypnosis in my relationship, either, because, like cynnacent, my Master has complete control, I serve him with 100% of my being, and, as I want and am happy with this, hypnosis wouldn't really serve any purpose.

On a general note, though, I just want to point out that hypnosis being done by someone who isn't a trained hypnotist is not a good idea. It can also be dangerous. Some people are very susceptible to hypnosis, and go under quickly and easily. If the hypnotist isn't trained, they can trigger traumatic memories, and they also need to know how to bring the hypnotized person up, awake, and fully oriented.

I saw a professional hypnotist years ago to quit smoking, and it was a positive experience, and the result was that I quit smoking cold turkey and remained a non-smoker for years; I wouldn't have been able to do it otherwise. I'm easily hypnotizable.

Now, for the other side of the coin... my aunt is also easily hypnotizable. One day, her therapist, who knew "some" about hypnosis, decided to try it on her. It triggered a traumatic memory/flashback for her, he panicked and stopped without bringing her back up, she left the office feeling dazed and disoriented, and, as a result, got into a rather bad car accident while trying to drive home.

Like has been said, you can't make someone do something they wouldn't normally do under hypnosis, and you can't hypnotize someone who isn't willing to be hypnotized. But it can be a risky thing, and isn't something to play with. Just like using a whip: you need to know how to use it safely and whether the submissive can handle it.. you don't just buy a whip, swing it in the air a few times, then beat away on a bare ass.

Well, just wanted to point out that, at the least, it will do nothing, and at the worst, it will cause harm in unknowledgeable hands, so that no one takes it any more lightly than they would any other kind of bdsm activity. ~daisy~

I understand now. I wasn't clear enough earlier.

Hypnosis is not about control. Is a vibrator about control? Are nipple clamps? Is a flogger?

Sure, they CAN be, but for the most part, their primary function is sensation. They are tools. As is hypnosis. You CAN use hypnosis to achieve unique forms of control, just like you can with nipple clamps, but it is quite definitely more of a toy/tool/impliment for sensation and experiences.

i underwent hypnosis at 18 to recall the events of my rape. i'd blocked much of it out. Even under hypnosis i did not recall all of it which i found odd but the therapist didn't seem to. i did recall every detail later in a kind of out of body experience lol yeah i know that sounds like a Shirley McClain thing but it only happened that one time.
Anyway because of the reason for the hypnosis i find myself hindered at any attempt to go any where near hypnosis. i think meditaition and subspace are close to hypnosis and i don't do very well with either though i desire to.
We were at a bizzar last weekend and i listened to a CD that was supposed to put me in a trance. Afterwards the vendor tried to put me in a trance neither worked. We did buy the CD and the visual program that went with it. Kinda figuring that with practice in the safety of our own home it can happen and once that happens our path to subspace will be easier to find.
i'd be greatful for any feedback and tips from those of you that have expereince in hypnosis. i'd love to be able to get past this mental block and if it helps me to get to that wonderful place that Master desires me to go called subspace. well all the better in both our minds

Don't have time to read this entire thread but here's my 2 cents worth

My former Master did this for a living, so i learned a bit about it....

alwayzron sums it up best with his post:
quote:

"You know .... there is such a myth that by hypnotizing someone, you can make them do whatever you want. THis is complete and utter BS. All hypnotism does is to allow you to enter a state of relaxation where you're more susceptible to suggestion. The hypnotised person is completely aware of what is going on around them, completely aware of their actions, and completely able to control their functioning. Hypnotist shows where people bark like a dog or flash their tits are a complete scam."

I was placed under hypnosis many many times by him, every session we'd have would begin and end with him putting me under and you're right, the entire time i would always be aware of my surroundings, it was basically just a very deep state of relaxation. He would also do it over the phone when we weren't together so that i could fall asleep better.

This is an interesting topic. One of F.R.R Mallory's (Mistress Steel) essays claims that sub-space is very similar to hypnotic trance and that a type of healing therapy is possible in both. Here is an excerpt:

quote:

A good top will ride the submissive 'down' into space, moving into the areas of damage and exploring them with light conversation, removing the pain still connected to them. In this state the submissive is aware but pain of any and all kinds is muffled. He or the top may strip away the feelings of shame, self hatred, denial, agony, ego diminishment. The top may take these feelings from the sub. Reminding her firmly that the glory she has become is the culmination of all she may have endured in her life. The damage becomes a distant lesson. This state is very close to traditional hypnosis, the submissive is totally suggestible and amenable to their top helping them.

This type of exploration occurs for years as the fragments slowly surface. The puzzle is put back together one piece at a time. The top rebuilds the whole of the submissive. Stripping away Fear, Pain, Guilt and Shame. Releasing the truth, the center, the beautiful one within.

Is anyone familar with this approach? What are your feelings about it?

i've been put under hypnosis before and i don't believe that anyone understands what it's truely for. it was never used on me for sex or to make me submit it was used to get to know my subcountious and to see what my subcountious was thinking/feeling. so in my experience it was a very good thing.

To make it short and sweet ...

I always found it seemed more to be used as a crutch.

To my mind, if you were confident in your training and behavior modification skills, none wouldn't be seeking a crutch via hypnosis.

Most every dominant I've seen that has boasted of being able to offer that as a skill/service/option seemed rather on shaky ground as a dominant to me, and all the submissives that seemed to go for it, seemed more caught up in the fantasy of being mind controlled, than anything else.

But yanno ... if the hypnotizer meets the hypnotizee and they make sparks - well then more power to them and I'm glad they found each other.

It's just not *my* interest.

Thats not true.... not if they really know what they're doing. There are alot of incredible things that a skilled hypnotist can do. What you said about them being able to make you more susceptible to suggestion is true, but to the absolute extreme. If they tell you that you feel cold, you do. If they tell you that you see a pink elephant, you do. Hypnotism has the potential to trick any of your senses and make you think and do whatever the hypnotist says. However, you do need to be open to the expierience and a hypnotist IS incapable of making you do anything that you truly do not want to do. All of you may argue all you want, but I know someone very well who is an incredibly talented hypnotist, and though I must admit I was never very keen on letting him hypnotize me, he has come to many parties I have gone to and I know many people who he has successfully hypnotized. The things I have seen him do are incredible. Oh... but I will let you all in on this, all the CD's, behavior modification, and "break your bad habit" types of things are B/S. The "magic" occurs only when you have been put into the relaxed sub-conscious type of state which fades in a very short amount of time, so all the running gags about people who were given a trigger word which would make them cluck like a chicken still reacting to that word days, weeks, years later are absolutely impossible, but that state of mind is the only time you can be manipulated. If your not in that state, you cannot be affected by any kind of past or present hypnosis, so those tapes you bought to try and quit smoking or lose weight were a total waste of money. If it all really worked like that, hypnotists would be running the world. I hope nobody was actually trying hypnosis to alter the behavior of their slaves...

Hypnosis is not scary, it works. I had ever tried that, and it proves that it really helps me a lot. Until now, I can still see the effect on me. I agree with you, always
