I don't know why so many people have trouble understanding this.

In the US, we have a deliberate, Constitutional separation of church and state.

That means, folks, it doesn't fucking matter what/if religion the president is.

If you think it does, you need to go find a country that works that way.

If folks don't like that, they'll have to try to hit the bar necessary to amend it.

Status: offline 		You're quite right that there's a big difference between a nonexistent right and a never exercised one in legal terms, but this is one that hasn't made much of an impact in recent memory. It's nice to know that it's there in case its ever needed, though.

Really? I've never heard this before and I have to admit that I find it surprising.

My initial reaction is to wonder how such laws survived legal challenge as my limited understanding of the US Constitution is that it insists on a complete State/Religion separation. However lots of places (and not just the US but everywhere) have crazy laws about one thing or another so I guess it's not completely out of the question that some religious fanatics would try to get such laws passed ...

So I'd be grateful if you tell us more about these laws
