So you love what the US has become??? I hate what the US has become over the last several decades & your corrupt politicians selling not just you/America but also the rest of the world out, it was a better country at one time.. so I take a stand against it, you dont like it, then dont read my posts.. For now at least, free speech is still a right here.. So its only ok for Trump & his bunch to spout hate about everyone else? You have the next Hitler on your hands, and he will send the US down the toilet faster than anyone before him,.. good luck..

Don't go to Canada if you want free speech. They are abolishing it.

Americans don't go to Canada for free speech: they go there to get their prescriptions filled without having to sell a kidney to pay for them.

Once they get through the waiting list to get the medicine.

the line for medication is the same as the US
the line for surgeries, the lines for the specialists and machines are maybe longer, emergency rooms get busy, beds are often not available.
But Im sure you get that too, but no waiting time for clearance on a surgery, no insurance, no payments.
Medicine is an hour to 24hrs... tops...but there are actual queues, jus like walmart or walgreens
SO you get your facts wrong again.
but im sure you will ignore this... and stay in ignorance. Or someone will quibble about what you "meant"

Nope...You hate that you and your "belief" system, are just as arrogant as Islam, it makes you so angry, but it just proves the point...you would love it under sharia .
You are creeepy dood.

You don't make me angry doll, I love you. Few represent the left better than you, you are among the best spokespersons for voting Trump on here

Please continue talking

You know seriously.. when i first came on here i knew very little about 'the left'. One of the first characters i met here was Lucy.. and she along with a couple of others here have magnified just how the left has gone wrong. Although i can respect some of the fundamental ideas of the left, they have driven themselves off the rails and so far, refuse to self-correct.

Because, of course, nobody on the right is refusing to self-correct. Just look at how correct their current President is, and the moral, intellectual and legal rectitude of his election campaign and past business career.

I am fine with him so far. A little rough around the edges, but that's to be expected.

Carter was rough around the edges: this cunt's so crooked they probably had to dismantle him to fit him through the white house door. The sorry waste of space is out and out non euclidean, not just rough around the edges.
Fucking hell. You'll be calling Terri Schiavo "a little slow" next.

Time will tell.

From the time I was put on the transplant list to the time I got the call for surgery was 100 days. If you don't have private drug coverage, the provinces supply that as well.... all the testing, the 2.5 years of dialysis, the surgery, the 7 days in the CCU, I walked out of the hospital with a bill saying 0 owed... tell me what would that cost in the Mighty US of A pray tell?????

So who is paying for it?

GaryWilcox -> RE: Oh Canada! (2/24/2017 3:01:56 PM)

People who have never lived with socialized medicine, and got their info from right-wing media about what it's like, really tickle me. These people are experts testifying in something they've never experienced. The stinging line, 'Who pays fo that', always makes me chuckle. I did, with taxes on work I did in England. Oh, and the well-off helped pay for it. And businesses that paid their proper taxes helped pay for it. And I helped pay for others. That's how it works.

It's a lot less scary then people who take millions from the medical industry have led you to believe it is.

Back in 2009, I came home from England to the U.S. with an English girlfriend, when a painful kidney stone attack happened. I didn't have a job, so I had no insurance. Lying on a gurney as they were giving me an IV for fluids, the receptionist came into the hallway where I was being treated to demand a credit card. Emergency room stay was over $1000 (for one night and some saline). Medicines and urine filter device came out to be better than $50 for just that visit. And I consider that pretty lucky.

I did a Masters last year in England. I had to pay 300 pounds (at the time, about $500) for the year and three months of coverage. Every time I went to the doctor, it was free. (That wound up being about six times.) Every time I picked up a medication, each medication was a mere 8 pounds. That's by design; no matter what is prescribed, it's only 8 pounds, because the government controls the cost of medicine so it doesn't become predatorial. (I got about sixteen prescriptions filled, so I paid about $128 overall for sixteen separate orders of medication in 15 months time.) My time from getting diagnosed for vision abnormalities during my standard glasses eye test (not covered on the NHS, cost me about 25 pounds) to seeing a specialist in glaucoma was about five weeks.

Cross the border, buy price controlled medication, cross the border the other way, take medication, repeat when scrip runs out.
I said "Americans", not "Canadian immigrants", you cretin.

You mean they recognize prescriptions written by those inept Americans?

They are refugees, and while some/many may be going thru the asylum refugee process and fear automatic deportation by Trump at some point, some may even have been vetted and gotten green cards but they fear being put in internment camps like the US did to Japanese & Japanese-Americans.. They have gotten the message that immigrants arent welcome in the US & refugees even less so..
They are just being smart about it and leaving rather than stay and face the risk & uncertainty & the increasing hate.. They will have a much better life in Canada anyway..
This is very much like the (as many as 30,000) slaves that traveled on the Underground Railroad to Canada to real freedom.. and like the (30,000 to 40,000) American draft dodgers who refused to fight in Vietnam and came to Canada instead.. And btw, Canada wasnt punished those times and wont be this time either..

Regarding the bolded part, you can thank the Democrats and those with a liberal/progressive bent for that. Building a wall on the border between Mexico and the US doesn't have any impact on legal immigration. The wall is all about preventing/reducing illegal immigration. Everyone but the soundbite believers knows this stuff.
Maybe we should have ICE offer transportation to Canada to anyone illegally crossing the southern border. Pamphlet bomb the desert borders with instructions on how to take part of the program. You think Canadians would be okay with that?

Again, Trudeau said refugees were welcome, he didnt say everyone..

I'm sure anyone ICE gets to Canada can claim to be a refugee of some sort.

quote:

anyone else has to apply & qualify.. which, btw, is considerably easier, faster, at less cost and with more options than trying to immigrate to the US.. As I have said before, if you dont have a million $ in the bank, have close family able to sponsor you or have an American fiance, then forget about immigrating legally to the US.. So many of you are so fucking clueless about how flawed and screwed up your immigration system is..

I am not clueless. It's true I don't know just how bad it is, but I do understand it's terrible, takes a long time, and is costly. If you've paid attention, most of us here on the boards from the US want an immigration system that is faster, less costly, and much more efficient.

quote:

I am amazed that you can blame libs/Ds for Trump's refugee/immigration ban & stupid wall idea... Sad

I'm amazed at how well your blinders work.

I never blamed D's/Libs/Progressives for Trump's refugee/"immigration" ban, nor did I blame them for his wall idea. What I did blame them for is how those things have been represented and sold to the public.

How many countries are there in the world? Trump's EO calls for a temporary ban on travel into the US for Nationals of 7 countries (and an indefinite ban on entry by Syrian refugees). The 90-day temporary ban was to give the US time to develop a better vetting process to prevent any would-be terrorists that are Nationals of those 7 countries from getting into the US.

What other refugees are impacted by an indefinite ban on Syrian refugees? Do refugees or asylum seekers from North Korea fall under the category of "Syrian refugee?" Of course not.

Regarding the wall: a wall isn't about stopping legal immigration; it's all about illegal immigration.

The D's/Lib's/Progressives came out against everything Donald Trump, but did so in a dishonest way. The liberal media trumpeted those same talking points. Anyone who talks about being against illegal immigration is shouted down as being xenophobic, a racist, and opposed to all immigration. In some cases, I'm sure that's true, but it's not true in all cases (I'm guessing it's not true for the vast majority of cases, even).

If illegal immigrants are fleeing the US for Canada, I'm perfectly okay with that. If they (illegal immigrants) are in fear of ICE/INS rounding them up and deporting them (ie. doing their jobs), I'm perfectly okay with that, too.

Why are they seeking asylum from the US, if they aren't illegal immigrants? It's just the illegals that should be concerned with being rounded up and deported.

Legal immigrants have no reason to seek asylum from the US. That would really be nothing more than moving from the US.

You don't read very well, do you?

My dad's Mexican neighbors' 13 yr. old girl speaks better than you and understands national matters better than you. My Chinese and Indian neighbors understand things about this country better than you. So yes, because of you, and understanding that we can do much better regarding who we let into the country or not, I'm starting to get on board with greater selectivity in that matter.

One thing that has escaped your notice is that there are a lot of people from other countries on this forum and many others who express their concerns and take issue with various policies or actions of the US, but manage not to insult the citizens (or not too much) in the process.

Another thing escaping your notice is that a good many Americans 'have issue' with various US policies and actions. But you spare no effort in proclaiming that the US citizens themselves are the biggest dumbfucks in the world because we don't have absolute micro-managed control of every action by the government or the corporations (or our stupid and useless electoral 'college' system).

You lack any understanding or even knowledge whatsoever of history, another thing that separates you (not in a good way) from most of the immigrants I am familiar with personally. Being a 'super power' is not a pretty thing. Being a country essentially made up of immigrants from various countries at various ages in our national life is not a pretty thing. There is no way that all 320 million people, with who knows how many different backgrounds, are going to come to full agreement on much anything.

It turns out that 74% of US voters did not vote for Trump, and yes, I am fine with that.

Edwird -> RE: Oh Canada! (2/25/2017 9:48:14 AM)

In other news; I'm actually OK with the fact that 26% did vote for Trump. Our country grew up with the notion that every silly voice must be heard, so here we are.

This is America. We can handle anything.

Theres a lot of fear about in immigrant communities.
As an immigrant myself, as a white one too, I have no desire to carry on visiting the US as I have done since 2001, three or four times a year in some cases. What is happening and what is supposed to be happening are two different things.

You're not a US immigrant. But, if you fear what would happen if you try to visit the US, then you should either not try to visit to the US, or figure out the reality of the situation and feel no fear coming here. You may not be a native Canadian (not that it really matters, but are you now a Canadian citizen? Do you hold dual citizenship?), but your native country certainly isn't one of the 7.

What government expects to happen when they do something, and what actually happens when they do something are usually not the same, and sometimes, they are even opposed.

"Persactly," as they say.

People who claim to not want to visit the US or claim they want to leave the US don't really understand the US, do they?

Reagan was supposed to have taken us to hell, Obama was supposed to have taken us to hell, etc. In my own opinion, the Reagan/Bush/Clinton trifecta is what brought us to the corporate oligarchy we have before us today. But yet we survive. I'm not happy about it, but at the same time it's difficult to ignore the inherent resiliency of the country as a whole.

If people want to look at some puffy faced orange head as actually being representative of of the citizens and ignore the citizenry itself, then let them leave and let them not visit, I say. The one good thing I take from the recent election (I have to pause here for a moment ... this is difficult) is that we will at least will clean out those who really don't understand the US at all.

Gee, thanks.

We have socialist medicine here, which means most Canadians, Justine Trudeau (née Castro) being first in the queue, are still on the waitlist for a spine donor.

I have spent plenty of time in the US, mostly on course, and since early November of last year I've really started thinking about moving there.

Trust me, Canada isn't wanting for too few SJW's.

That was not her story. Through a couple posters not using quotes correctly, or fixing it once someone else didn't use it correctly, there are words of three people represented in her post. The first paragraph is one. The "So who is paying for it?" line is another, and then Lucy's addition is the rest.
