Although I am happy the way that I am, yes I would choose to not have this additional burden of trying to meet someone who matches me.

I disagree with the poster who said that being vanilla is not casting a wider net. It is so difficult to find the right person that being submissive adds a whole other level in which the other person has to be compatible with.

With that said, I was born this way and there is no way to change, so the question is really moot.

I love my submissiveness and would not change it for any other orientation. It is so much a part of me that if I was not a submissive I believe I would not be the same person, and I am fond of who I am...

If I changed anything it would be how people view submissives, both vanilla and some within the lifestyle because I think I see some that treat submissives as less. I am unaccustomed to being treated this way in my daily life because sexism hasn't touched me very often, and I had the "freedom" to address when it did and call someone on that treatment. I find that some of the people I have met online tend to think less of submissives and treat them as children or like they matter less.

Hello Mark,

I will take a stab at your question with the only answer that feels organic to me.

I have no idea how your question can be answered.  It has the same sort of 'answerless' properties as the concept of being judged for all eternity for your finite actions, when we as human beings have no concept of eternity, our only perceptions being those of mortals.

As being submissive is a part of who I am intrinsically, and so to ask me if I would choose to change that really doesn't register all that clearly.  As being submissive is an organic part of 'who I am' and not, instead  'what I do', I can not fathom being happy being dominant, as it is unnatural to me, being who I am...

Can I take charge when it is needed... sure.  Is it the role I prefer taking, nope... it is not what is most natural to me.  I would also like to stipulate, that to me, being submissive, does not make me incapable, needy, unable to function on my own, desperate or a door mat.

Those are not what I would call inherent traits of one who is naturally submissive and healthy in that state.... those are the characteristics of someone who is floundering in their life somewhere, submissive or otherwise.

...and to add to my post above... it also limits the pool a bit... I turned down a very suitable lovely vanilla man I'd dated a couple of times last week and I cancelled a dinner on Friday this week with someone else on exactly the same grounds. I would be misleading them. I could never be content in a relationship without dominance and power exchange. It is likely I would have remarried by now if I weren't submissive.

I am submissive but have certain aspects of my personality from other roles that some day in the very very distant future i may wish to explore.  I do not wish to change anything now, i wish to learn to be the best submissive that i can become.

I want to be the sole heiress of a small but extremely wealthy country *S*  but i should still be able to be a submissive.

ohhh or maybe being the pampered pet of the sole heir of a small but extremely wealthy country.

And the country would preferably be somewhere warm and near the ocean.

*** Hey the OP just asked if we wanted to be something else, He didn't say it had to be realistic hehehe  ***

i meant something vanillarish agirl, but you'll always be a princess in my eyes ;-)

Vanillarish???  Oh hell, I'll always be dark chocolate with nuts and cranberries added.....or maybe peanut butter/carmel.....or perhaps mint.

But seriously, I looked into the mirror and saw a 50ish submissive woman, glowing beautifully, fully fulfilled looking back.  Why would I want to be something different?

Great answer akisha *s*

Would I be anyone else?  Maybe a talented and famous novelist  *s*  but I would still want to be me.
No ,I like me, I'm worth it and would not change my life or my choices for anything.   To take away the submissive, the masochist, the bottom would take away a huge peice of who I am. And despite some of the hardships that come with the choice to acknowledge these parts of our personalities and livea lifestyle outside the 'norm'   I would never consider changing them.

Absolutely not. I am a 24/7 slave, i live with my owners and i am so happy i am twice happy. I could not envision myself as anything other than submissive.

I suppose that depends on what the 'something else' includes..

I'd prefer to be a prima ballerina over being a slave because I'd get to wear toe shoes and tu-tus.

I'd prefer to be vanilla over being a slave because I imagine that vanilla people don't feel this frustrated ache to serve.

I wouldn't prefer being a submissive if it came to choosing between submissive and slave, because I don't think that I could water this down at all.

I wouldn't prefer to be a Dominant to being a slave.  I was a Domme for a long long time and I've know discovered why my skin didn't seem to fit right.  I knew that I was something more intense than a submissive and I thought that meant that I was a Domme.  It didn't.

I'd prefer being a vampire over a werewolf.  I look great in black and werewolves have too much to shave.  Oops..  wrong message board.

If a choice...may be easier to be just like everyone else.  Not sure what I would do.

I was born submissive, and that is just me...I wouldnt know how to be anything else.  So therefore,  I really dont have a choice in the matter....I cant change my personality.  I like being me!

I cant see myself being anything else but submissive. I am a slave and have a need to be one to feel fulfilled and happy.

I believe that we all have choices. Even though a submissive nature could very well be an inherent orientation, one can choose to act upon it, refrain, or choose to live life away from a natural inclination. I don't think just because a person is a certain way, they absolutely must live a set lifestyle.

My "choice" is to not actualize my submissive nature. Prefering instead to allow my more reserved nature to prevail. Would I "change" from being submissive to vanilla? I don't feel that any of my basic characteristics have that much of a grip on me that I can't control how I live my life. Maybe instead of being with a partner, my wishing to serve will manifest it's self in volunteering to sit with an elderly housebound person. A person doesn't have to be submissive to be of service to others, but being submissive also doesn't mean having to live the "lifestyle" 24/7.

I'm just another being trying to find my particular path like everyone else. Not set apart because of an orientation.

I asked to be a princess, too... was told, "of course".

Funny but the job description reads exactly the same.

Edited to answer the OP...

No, I wouldn't choose anything else.  I happen to like who I am... and it happens to match very well with a certain other that I like even more.

I wouldn't choose to be something else...

I've been alot of other things, mostly with a dominant/controlling aspect to them where I was in charge... I was very good at it but it never, no matter the awards or acclaim or rewards, felt as wonderful as hearing my Master say "good girl" or kneeling at his feet... this is who I am.  It took a while to reprogram myself to admit it freely but now I can and I love that I can.

I wouldn't change it if I could... and I don't think I could ever go back... not knowing what I know now.
