It's interesting the posters objecting to the Pope's message of compassion are among those who most prominently identify themselves as Christian.

One might conclude that there are two 'Christianities', one centred around compassion and giving and the other centred about a steely lack of compassion and giving. Or, alternatively, that one of the parties is only nominally Christian.

The Christian right in America is even more fascist than the alt-right, and more dangerous because they're actually organized and aren't simply about posting memes to provoke a reaction. They are largely Christian supremacists who believe that they are everything that is just and good and pure in the world, and all those who do not believe as they do are wicked and will be subject to totally justified apocalyptic violence.

I can't decide if Besty DeVos, Erik Prince and Mike Pence scarier than Trump or not.

This brings to mind a favorite quote that I've shared before and bears repeating.

"Do you consider yourself a Christian?" [the interviewer] asked.
I sighed and said, "My problem with that is that so many people who publicly
identify themselves as Christians are such jerks about it."
The woman laughed, as did the people in the sound booth behind her. . . .

I said I often wondered if being a Christian was something we could, or should, claim for ourselves;
that if being a Christian meant incarnating the love of Christ in my own life,
then maybe it would be best to let others tell me how well, or how badly, I'm doing.
