There is nothing more dangerous than a cornered and wounded animal. As the world closes in on President Donald Trump with a Russian investigation that is billowing so much smoke that the likelihood of some sort of fire seems highly likely, an increasingly isolated and temperamentally ill-prepared presidency could descend into a level of paranoia-fueled chaos the likes of which we have never seen as a nation. This morning, in a series of Tweets, Mr. Trump accused President Obama of McCarthyism and a Nixon/Watergate conspiracy. He called his predecessor a "Bad (or sick) guy!" Let that sink in for a moment. The President of the United States on an early Saturday morning is attacking the previous President of the United States in a level of demeaning condescension that has no parallel in recent American history. And then he tries to link Mr. Obama to two of the lowest points of America's post-World War II history? When it is his administration that is swirling around the storm drain of scandal? The impetus for these accusations, for which Mr. Trump predictably provided no proof or authentication, was a claim that "Obama had my 'wires tapped' in Trump Tower just before the victory." Many sources quoted on this topic in the press say these assertions are unlikely. The source for Mr. Trump may very well have been the alt-right Breitbart site, which had an article making these claims. Or maybe it is a sign that a law-enforcement investigation was at a level higher than we even know. Whatever the reason, this just proves once again that the only way to settle this is an independent and open special investigation. We also need a real national discussion about whether this kind of behavior is befitting a President. Are Mr. Trump's Republican allies comfortable with these kinds of accusations against a former President? And where is the proof? What is the truth? President Trump on Saturday angrily accused former president Barack Obama of orchestrating a “Nixon/Watergate” plot to tap the phones at his Trump Tower headquarters last fall in the run-up to the election. Citing no evidence to support his explosive allegation, Trump said in a series of five tweets sent Saturday morning that Obama was “wire tapping” his New York offices before the election in a move he compared to McCarthyism. “Bad (or sick) guy!” he said of his predecessor, adding that the surveillance resulted in “nothing found.” Trump offered no citations nor did he point to any credible news report to back up his accusation, but he may have been referring to commentary on Breitbart and conservative talk radio suggesting that Obama and his administration used “police state” tactics last fall to monitor the Trump team. The Breitbart story, published Friday, has been circulating among Trump's senior staff, according to a White House official who described it as a useful catalogue of the Obama administration's activities. A spokesman for Obama did not immediately reply to a request for comment. Trump has been feuding with the intelligence community since before he took office, convinced that career officers as well as holdovers from the Obama administration have been trying to sabotage his presidency. He has ordered internal inquiries to find who leaked sensitive information regarding communications during the campaign between Russian officials and his campaign associates and allies, including Attorney General Jeff Sessions and ousted national security adviser Michael Flynn. Mr. Trump’s decision to lend the power of his office to such a claim — without offering any proof — was remarkable, even for a leader who has repeatedly shown himself willing to make assertions that are false or based on rumors. It would have been difficult for federal agents, working within the law, to obtain a wiretap order to target Mr. Trump’s phone conversations. Apparently this whole "Facebook" thing is new to you, so let me explain something. Facebook does not have a news team or reporters, it is simply a news feed posted onto it's site from other sites. So whether or not something is fed onto a Facebook page has no impact on it's validity, unless you also agree that the Fox, Brietbart and other conservative feeds posted onto Facebook are also imbecilic. So what it is, are you confused, ignorant or a hypocrite?
