US President Donald Trump's Irish-inspired hat features the wrong clover

Clover confusion
With St Patrick's Day fast approaching, can you tell your clovers apart? ( Don’t look at me)
US President Donald Trump's Irish spin on his signature "Make America Great Again" hat has caught the internet's attention... for sporting the wrong clover.

"Capture the luck of the Irish with this Make America Great Again Hat. While supplies last! Order by March 13th to ensure delivery by St. Patrick's Day.

• Embroidered Make America Great Again on front
• Embroidered Four-Leaf Clover on back.

Why this garbage is trending who really knows – but fek me $50 for a hat, and why does he have an online shop: is this even allowed and where does all the loot go – not to his tax returns that’s for sure guffaws.

Actually why is that hat the most expensive?

MrRodgers -> RE: President hat #shamrockgate (3/7/2017 11:02:40 AM)

As likely a Trump hat $50 retail, made and bought by the 1,000's in China for $1.50.

St Patrick explaining trinity using the shamrock is outdated.
With DT time has come for an alternative shamrock.

There are different clovers for St. Patrick's Day?

Not according to Wiki: There is still not a consensus over the precise botanical species of clover that is the "true" shamrock. John Gerard in his herbal of 1597 defined the shamrock as Trifolium pratense or Trifolium pratense flore albo, meaning Red or White Clover. He described the plant in English as "Three leaved grasse" or "Medow Trefoile", "which are called in Irish Shamrockes".

Although there were several types of clover used, they were all 3-leaved ones and is said to have used it as a metaphor for the Christian Holy Trinity.

Trumps' hat features a 4-leaf clover; it's the wrong sort.

WickedsDesire -> RE: President hat #shamrockgate (3/7/2017 12:28:47 PM)

It actually took me a bit to work out shamrock - 3 leafed - but a moment to work out $50=Dick Turpin
https://shop.donaldjtrump.com/ - who knew, not I guffaws

So the clover 4 is luckier? and is that not add odds with the addage luck of the Irish - not like us Scottish jackals have a weed as a national emblem thingie guffaws https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thistle

Englanders what do you have? brain poverty aside guffaws guffaws

I knew something had slipped my mind, sanity aside.....okay smart arse what about the Welsh?

Christ wait a minute who has the leek?

FR,

Who gives a fuck?

It's not like it's an actual celebration (in the US) of the Feast of St. Patrick, or the Day of the Festival of St. Patrick. The only reason it's as popular (in the US) as it is, is because it's all about getting drunk. Many bars add green food coloring to their cheapest beer on tap and sell the shit out of it at an elevated price.

Was it a stupid mistake? Yeah. Does it matter? No.

But, Trump made a (another) mistake, so let's pretend like it means something and roast him.

WickedsDesire -> RE: President hat #shamrockgate (3/7/2017 8:52:21 PM)

Why is the errant hat $50 and all others a lot less, strewn errors aside...that is what i do not understand...pay better attention and delve deeper after that lest I vistit u with a big stick

The Welsh have the leek, but I think the daffodil is traditionally the flower of Wales.

I don't think we're allowed to identify ourselves here, but there are a few that know my real last name.

The rest of my names are: Michael, Patrick, Sean, and Francis. You want a "Shamrockgate"? When I drank, I couldn't stand beer and I detest corned beef and cabbage.

Now, go run an' tell yer momma.

Michael

How many 'mistakes' do dumb don and the deplorables get before it is ok with you to make fun of him?

Is it a mistake though?

He used the four leaf clover which is the lucky one so people are screaming about the twue meaning of St. Patrick's Day.

What would have happened if he would have used a three leaf clover? People would be screaming about Trump establishing a religion and all sorts of 1st amendment violations.

The only mistake here is believing people are sincere in their outrage. They are not. They will look for anything and twist anything. I am pretty sure that the next time I go to Wal-Mart I can find merchandise that have both types of clovers on them. That would be on Saturday. Let me know if you actually want me to look.

No need to look.

The Shamrock (3-leaf clover) is a symbol used to denote Irish heritage.

A 4-leaf clover is a symbol of good luck, but it's not used to denote Irish heritage.

So, there is a mashup where luck and Irish heritage are brought together, and they symbol of luck is used, but the symbol is only similar to the one used to denote Irish heritage.

To that end, it's wrong. However, it's not an uncommon error. One has to wonder why Trump is being ridiculed when it's been going on for a long time in other areas.....

How much you want to bet none of the people riding Trump have anything to say to General Mills?

WhoreMods -> RE: President hat #shamrockgate (3/8/2017 9:24:38 AM)

I don't think chap on the cereal box has ever stood for the presidency: that's one difference that springs to mind.

Yeah, and General Mills isn't a multi-national corporation.

So, he fucked up. Big deal. General Mills has been fucking it up the same way for 50+ years. NOW it's a problem (and still only for Trump)?!?

blnymph -> RE: President hat #shamrockgate (3/9/2017 2:55:52 AM)

Would any of you be interested (or care) how the Irish define their own holiday, their patron saint, the symbols associated with those?
Anyone interested in how all this is commented in Irish media?

Are cereals, or Trump merchandising, relevant to Irish culture in any way?
-and what are they if not: just another example of cultural adaptation of symbols for profit purposes based on ignorance of origin and desire of nostagia?

WhoreMods -> RE: President hat #shamrockgate (3/9/2017 3:56:14 AM)

That's a very good point. I've certainly met some Irish who find supposed "Irish Americans" who can't speak a word of gaelic irksome.
