He is now the target of unsubstantiated public demands by Members of Congress and other political critics that he be criminally investigated,” Kelner added.

“No reasonable person, who has the benefit of advice from counsel, would submit to questioning in such a highly politicized, witch hunt environment without assurances against unfair prosecution," he said.

Update: A Spokesman for the House Intelligence Committee disputes the report, telling the Guardian that no such offer was made. The statement allegedly from Flynn’s lawyer has not been verified.

Yeah, and if you can't trust Flynn's lawyer to say anything even if it hurts the man paying him for a defense, then who can you trust?

Desperate as I am to see Trump destroyed (mostly because he's a fucking menace, along with the rest of the GOP-- in fact, moreso), there is undeniably hysteria involved when Flynn's lawyer can make a comment like this and suddenly speculation about damning testimony is everywhere.

I really hope this doesn't end up being 2005 tax return redux. Trump is clearly guilty but the media circus is giving bad people potential ammunition... even if it won't last long, we all know that the right can milk every single mistake forever. A big mistake would be even more damaging.

I rarely even read HuffPost, since it's mostly rampant opinion with only implied support, for example. The New Yorker runs headlines that don't reflect the content. The Atlantic is more thoughtful, but mostly speculation. A lot of folks seem to think that the way to combat the Breitbarts of the world are to copy them.

Congress has become a food fight. And the Orange-in-Chief certainly can't lead them out of it.
