Hmmmm, if "renewables" have plunging prices maybe the fed should quit funding the majority of the operational costs of renewable energy projects.
It has been a while since I looked at real numbers on renewable energy sources. About a decade ago they were a hugely expensive boondoggle without the federal subsidy.

So, again, why are shiploads of tax dollars going to a 150 yr. old industry making billions of dollars hand over fist ever since?

And trashing the environment and increasing instability around the world in the process?

Go back to sleep.

The Germans did exactly that. But that's because they have a clue and the US is voting for Trump. Not a fair comparison in any domain.

What the German government did was to provide tax-funded price supports to the solar industry, with a sunset timeline on it. You can guess, right? at all the nut job media proclaiming that Germany's pre-ordained cut-off of funds actually meant their putative 'dissatisfaction' with the venture.

According to nutjob media.

Germany in fact has more efficient floor heating installed in new buildings and little or no tax dollars put to it, while the US in the meantime voted for a dullwit as president.

Germany exports almost as much as the US in total exports, with 27% of US population.

Guess which country is smarter.

It's actually amazing (to everyone...not just me) to watch you work so hard to make your point.

I think I'll start referring to you as "BMOC" (because...I suspect it's the one thing that's important to you....that you're declared....important).

You declaring me important is really something special...shall we alert the press?

I've watched you...actually make (a few) excellent points along the way only to have others respond to you (immediately...without it seems....reading your comments...had they, they may have even been impressed) with such horrific vitriol because....you are....full of it (vitriol as well as...lack...and of course...full of...yourself).

Being right does not make me "full of myself". It makes me right.

Amazingly, if they weren't so offended by you....they might have actually heard your (occasionally...but rarely...valid) point....even now....my last statement will offend some because...they find you patently offensive (read: not at all...important).

Those with their head up their ass will often be offended by those who point it out

As someone in the Rocky movies said...."you could have been a contender!".

No dumbass that was "on the waterfront"

Dude...you are your own worst enemy (and sadly...but not at all surprisingly....your own best friend).

Truth over ignorance does tend to validate my friendship with fact over fiction.
[/quote]

BMOC....

You are one (truly) untethered person.

It's curious to even mention you as a "person"....but I (do) try to be kind. Maybe you're a bot (note the bold face)....possibly you are human but....the data leaves, in that recourse....something....lacking.

It's fascinating to me that you question my capacity (many know me {well...and factually} and have no doubt but...I understand your dubiousness....for those that know me....it does seem to (oddly) leave you wanting....doesn't it?......curious....yeah?).

Desirous possibly?

(Did you want to....are you secretly desirous of....uhhhh....well....I won't embarrass you....even though most know you want to....well...can I cinch those up for you.....?)

Who could ever know?

Say it....you know you want to....make the"oooooo" face!!!....go ahead[/i]....say it to yourself (say it to the world!!!)...come on ThompsonX.

(Say it....admit it!!!)

SAY IT!!!!!

Give IN ThompsonX!!!! SPIT IT OUT (as.....they say).

To be fair....so many others question (your) capacity. (Mine seems to be paying the rent so....I'm not really altogether concerned about yours).

As I said previously....you bring a LOT to the table but....strangely....you always use it....to debase others....(my preference of course is...to bring others up....it's a "thing" for me but...sue me...I prefer to deal with those on my plane...and...most (not all) here....are). It's actually stunning to me how much you bring and....how much....you deign to debase (others).

So many here take things and people down (I won't mention names....everyone knows "who"...it's really not important because...I'm confident...even the least....knows....and as well....the smartest....also know)....it really isn't important how many call others a "cunt", "dumb ass", "PHOQING IDJIT", ....use bold face or....deem others "less than".

(I never have....and....never will because....I actually know and...in fact am well aware....there are people here...and elsewhere who are VASTLY smarter than me......you may not be one of them {it's not anything to lose sleep over}....however, I'm more than clear....you do have the capacity to be....and...for those that can't deign reality well...you are welcome to forgo facts and simply go to.....wherever you feel it's appropriate to go....).

Those who believe that others have "limited capacity"....are likely part of the "those that smelt (sp? "Smelled") it.....dealt it" category but....I digress....(I'm of the opinion that all/everyone....has/have some capacity...possibly less than mine....more likely...(indeed...I'm sure....no...in fact...you've made clear my lack on more than several occasions).....more than mine because....I haven't considered every aspect...of.....everything...(no doubt....you have...natch...because...of course..you know everything....yeah?...Feel freeeeeeeeee....).

I could run on my personal accolades for some time....I won't (it's rather boring stuff...I have a Trail Bike trophy...."last in" {of 67....I'm not all that good on bikes in trails...I'm quite proud of the trophy nonetheless}....fun stuff...and for the record....I was both....last and....19 minutes behind)....some other (my Mom thinks...."amazing") fun stuff....but...

I digress.....

You would do well to disseminate facts ThompsonX instead of hyperbole.

(It's far easier).

Well....certainly............much.....easier.....

(Perhaps it's some kind of peni...oh....sorry...my error....you don't ha....oh shit....my bad....sorry....wasn't trying to embarrass you....my apologies....).

**************

(Apologies for less than flawless grammar).

You have much to apologize for, grammar being the least of them.

This is what we call "taking another bite of the apple", when someone feels like they didn't quite get it right the first time.

(You've already covered these same points, twice now BMOC....move on to fresher topics please).

The mid-'70s were when radio went awful bad (Foreigner? -pukes . . .) , but pre-dico bars were still a good scene at the time. There was Dan Hicks, also. But Dan hicks didn't play in my neighborhood, so this band did.

These lyrics; "My oldest kid got busted at school for smokin' pot, then yesterday my old lady went off with the arresting cops ... ", sung by a hillbilly band, as speaking to accepted reality of considerations at the time. This could only happen on stage in the seventies, before 'dumb it down' disco and batshit-crazy Regan effed it all up, but that's ancient history. Aside that the US has been batshit wacko ever since. We honestly had in going forward, at one time.

The bass player for this band (Chicken Hotrod) and the bass player for the Charlotte symphony both taught string class at the local community college, the latter who conned me into playing a viola there, hence my learning of the C clef (he pushed me there because I was the only one in the class who could learn it to read it, he was trying to push me to cello next).

Learning music theory in day hours and playing Bach in string class, then hearing Chicken Hotrod or Mother's Finest finest in different clubs at night, . . .

Good times all around.

All things must pass, but they don't have to pass for the worst. I don't care if my own life surpasses this recent creative impasse or not, I've already enjoyed and still enjoy my own taste far better than most in that regard, and I am grateful for it.

And some decades of further exploration of Russian and French and German and Italian and Austrian et al. composers' works yet to go.

Some here will be surprised to hear me say that solar energy is a viable option for individual homes to get them off the grid. However, on a large scale such as towns or cities, solar energy isn't very practical. Fossil fuels will be with us for a long time. Battery-powered cars might work but how far can they go till the battery runs out our need recharging? For long trips gasoline or diesel engines are the most efficient. And finally, ask yourself if you will be first in line to board a solar powered airplane or wind powered airplane.

Actually, battery powered cars (Tesla) can go as far or farther on a single charge than most cars can go on a tank of gas and they are much more energy efficient...much fewer BTU's per mile.

Do you have a link to that? I found one from a few years back

http://www.latimes.com/business/autos/la-fi-hy-green-car-emissions-20150713-story.html

"Battery electric cars — those that run solely on electricity — are the cleanest and least expensive to operate. But they typically get only about 80 miles of driving range on a full charge (Tesla's Model S is the exception, traveling more than 250 miles on a charge, but it typically sells for about $100,000.)"

but maybe they have improved them since then.

Musicmystery -> RE: Plunging price of renewable energy makes end of fossil fuels inevitable, says report (4/16/2017 5:40:26 AM)

80 miles, if chargers were everywhere I went, would be sufficient for all but pleasure trips.

Even then, if a charge took 20-30 minutes, totally worth it.

I know Tesla has a huge new battery facility. Maybe they'll extend it affordably.

Base model tesla model s start at $62,000.
Look on ebay and craigs list to find fully equipped tesla model s in the 50-60 k range.

As a proof of concept tesla has a battery exchange system that will change out a model s battery in 90 seconds.

I would be ok for most trips although I would have to get a really long extension cord to reach the street where I park but it is doable. My brother in law would have to recharge every time he got to work in order to get back home. The company he works at has over 1,200 employees. That is a lot of charging stations. And it's one of the smaller companies in the area.

Excuses are easy...solutions not so much.
1200 electric cars can be served by 300 four lead charge points centered between parking rows.

unfortunately as you show over and over, you don't know what the word "lie" means. so your response to me is meaningless except for to illustrate what a pompous ass you are.

see if you can learn the difference between that (the word "lie"), and making a mistake in punctuation/referencing.

and while youre in the dictionary, look up the word "paraphrase."

Mine comes from hydroelectric primarily, with some nuclear, and more and more, solar and wind.

Maybe yours needs an upgrade.
