There is a huge difference between your isp and facebook or google, etc. How so ? Info is info. Your bank sells it. Your cable company sells it. The fucking water works probably sells it. Your car dealer sells it. If you get one of those discount cards at the grocery store they sell it. If you have Windows, Microsoft sells it. This is the information age. Has been or some time. If it were not, how do the bust hackers ? They busted hackers in Germany decades ago for breaking into US computers. Most people don't like it, but it is not just the government allowing it, it is that they can't stop it anyway. Just treat the internet like a public place. There are personal things you do not reveal the the local bar or store. If you wear diapers and don't want people to know just go to the store and buy them with cash. Now THAT makes a good case against the cashless society because there is a record of every credit card transaction you've ever made, and I mean ever. They know what you bought and where, and that information is valuable and the way it is, they will sell the information. So really, this is not much of an issue. It can be an annoyance tho9ugh when advertisers get too aggressive. Those MFs wreck one of my favorite email addresses because I got rebates on a PC system from Onrebates. If you EVER deal with Onrebates, make a brand new email just for them. They think you need a new monitor every day, or something. The email was Zzactly with no numbers after it. I liked it and was surprised to even get it, but they made it unusable. Some of it almost makes sense. I bought parts from Digikey, an electronics supplier. So they send me a leaflet about once a month with their specials on parts and new offerings. But some of these assholes will try to sell you a Toyota right after you bought a new Ford. Some websites actually tailor the ads for you. You go to one, the banners are different than they are for me. If this can reduce the number of ads I see I am all for it, but the odds of that are about on par with me winning the gold medal in Women's gymnastics in the Olympics. One of the main problems, reasons we get bombarded so much, and this selling of information is so prevalent is because the US is a nation of salesmen. They say "Nothing happens until something is sold". Can't much argue that, but for example if you advertise on TV I am not buying it. I looked into TV advertising a long time ago and it is so expensive that you are getting ripped off. ALL THE MONEY, no exceptions, comes from the customer. Producing and airing a TV commercial can easily run into a million bucks. How many sixty dollar items do they have to sell to pay for that ? And at what profit margin ? And once you do buy something, your name is on a list. They will stuff your mailbox to no end. I mean your snail mail box. Let them get ahold of your email and they will stuff that as well. There is another saying in the business. If you are not the customer, you are the product. Do I like the fact that Trump loosened up the information market ? Hell no. There are a few other things he has done that I do not like. But this is not the end of the world. Google and all them already are selling your information, the ISPs want in on the profits. Also, if you happen to use Shodan for example, now they will now it and probably send ads for software, hacking tools and whatnot. Now eBay sticks me with a browser addon I do not want. Gets past UAC because it never asked me. The internet must be considered a public place. You want privacy, you might still have it in your own home, but then now some cable boxes have cameras. They want data on whether anyone is actually watching the show or if they just forgot to turn the TV off and are outside grilling steaks or whatever. I know one guy who went to New York and left the TV on. (from Cleveland) But that was back before Cleveland even had cable TV. We had a councilman that just wanted too much money to allow a cable service. They are all crooks now. And if you don't think Hillary Clinton would have signed that same bill I believe you are mistaken. In fact she promised war, which was one of the things that kept her out of the office. I may have decided Trump is better than Clinton, but in no way, shape or form does he have my blind support. Nobody does. I am more concerned about what he does in the international arena. T^T
