Sorry folks (not sorry), but I I think Aylee nailed it. I think that the US invasion of Iraq was entirely in the wrong, that we have screwed things up mightily as result. But if going with 'what's on the cart,' and having any fundamental reading of history at all, then we might apprise ourselves of the fact that various Western powers and the Russians and the Ottomans have been stomping all over Persian and Assyrian et al. lands for centuries and decades already. Yes, Syria itself might be just small potatoes, but so was Vietnam, so was Guatemala, so was S. Africa at one time. And what is all this about US actions in this case being against the rules? If anyone is stupid enough to place politics before reality and not understand that the Syrian government's use of chemical weapons is one of the worst offenses as set down by any and every international law, then what is your argument, technicalities? And for those 'cheering' Trump on this, as if the thing were not in fact inevitable no matter who being at the reigns, please STFU, because you know damn well that Obama or especially HRC would have done the same thing, in which case you would be screaming at what Monsters! they were. In any case, I'm with Aylee on this one, she has it laid out simply and correctly; international law was clearly and blatantly violated by the Syrian government, and the response was a reprisal. For those in the US asking "who are we to say?", my response to you is "where were you 15 years ago? and why are you still making excuses for it?" I'm as anti-war as they come, which is why HRC and Kerry and John Edwards disgusted me so much. But this is not that, and if there is one effing thing this country can do right, I would hope that it be in actions against use of chemical weapons on civilians. Or we could just wait ten years in an international court and make the civilians suffer by economic sanctions, like we always do. Oooo! oooo! You can just feel how the government of Syria are shaking in their bones at what their citizens will suffer ten years from now as deterrent to their immediate ends. Right.
