When you leave women out of consideration, it's misogyny.

When you leave men out of consideration, it's feminism.

So what is it when you leave homeless children out of consideration??? Its not like that is a small problem..

"A staggering 2.5 million children are now homeless each year in America. This historic high represents one in every 30 children in the United States."

Well at least the problem is constrained to the US, and never happens anywhere else. Thanks for directing people to the root of all evil, as you are so well adept at doing.

In any case, there is this idiot who drags his kids around numerous parking lots (or 'car parks') begging for money, and I don't give him a penny, because there is no way kids in that situation in the US don't have TANF and food stamps and overnight shelter available every day. I have given the guy explicit instructions to avail himself and his kids to all the above plus medicaid, but I still see him a year later dragging the kids around. I want to punch his lights out.

On the other hand, I willingly give a couple of dollars to honest drunkards and crack-heads, because they are so honest and sometimes funny and teach me things I could not learn else where.

I gladly take the 5-10 dollars a week this one particular crack-head -insists- on giving me in exchange for 1-2 mile rides two or three times a week for whatever he's doing. The mountain bike and the homeless guys get me out and about, aside giving some of them transport in the car, which does that too. But yes, I take money from the homeless on a weekly basis, because they insist, and they must actually do something useful to get the money in the first place, and I don't always remember whom I through some dollars to. An accounting mess, if only looking at that, but I can't be troubled or concerned.

It's almost the only reason I start the car anymore nowadays.

(Work/grocery store/library, none more than 5-20 minute walk, 2-5 minutes on the bike.)

Edwird -> RE: Homelessness (4/14/2017 12:15:04 AM)

What these homeless guys do is to sit at a gas station (the few who will allow them) and and help out old people who can't figure out the modern gas pump, knowing they will only get a tip 1/5 times. Or help with inflating a low tire, or checking the oil and advising a half quart if needed.

This is pretty much like 'fulls service' as was the case 40 years ago, but now done by homeless guys.

And they are good at it.

I like watching people who are good at what they do.

Now where the fuck did i say that the US is the only problem with homelessness??? You dont need to be a genius to know it isnt, hell, I expect there are lots of homeless in Syria but I dont have stats on that (& most Americans wouldnt care anyway).. there was also no indication from the OP's post on where/what country exactly that pic came from (& I looked at it before I posted btw) and about 95% of the posters here are in the US so those stats (I am guessing) would be most relevant to them.. but of course, as you continually show & in your post brag about, not relevant to someone as uncaring & judgemental as you...

Maybe one of the reasons Women are only 25 % is because they have an alternative way to pay rent.

But you will see more homelessness, even if Trump succeeds in bringing jobs back and/or keeping them from leaving, there are simply less jobs. One Man can do the work of ten now, what happens to the other nine ?

You don't see Germany bitching about China taking their jobs, they adapted. They became extremely productive, so much so that they are really taking their own jobs away. The reduced the work week many years ago, now it is even worse with many Germans unable to afford to live on their own.

They adapted this is what the US failed to do. Partly because companies didn't want to. They can't make vitamin pills here because some of the waste needs special handling. Increasing productivity does nothing to cure that. The few decent jobs here are taken and people hold on for dear life. Overtime no problem, take a day off, no problem. Whatever the company wants. You ain't getting those jobs.

With the EPA de-fanged we might get something, but the old days are not coming back.

And the guy dragging his kids around ? The welfare system here is seriously rigged against the White male. I have seen the cars parked at the welfare office and when you see new SUVs, guess who is not getting into them, White males.

And you can't get food cards without a real address, back when I had my house I let people use the address a couple of times for that purpose. You can't get them at a homeless shelter, plus you got nowhere to cook the food and that grub stub does not work at restaurants or for things even microwaved at the store. I have seen the signs "You cannot use EBT for anything that is microwaved here".

My Grandfather walked across this country. He supported himself on odd jobs and whatnot, there was no welfare as far as I know. So they put him in jail in Texas for vagrancy and after a couple of days they give hin ten bucks and said "Go get me a pack of cigarettes". Didn't say what brand even, and cigarettes were about fifty cents a pack back then, if that. That was simply a roundabout way of telling him to vamoose.

Somewhere in Utah, which is pretty conservative IIRC, they were throwing vagrants in jail. After while they thought how much it costs to keep these prisoners. They also realized that they were paying to guard someone who did not want to leave. So they just gave them apartments. They save money in the long run, plus they give those people job counseling, they have a valid phone and address, without which you just about can't get any job. They have a shower which is pretty much another requirement to get a job.

But even with my alternative rent joke, the government seems to prefer Women. You have heard of welfare Mothers, have you heard of many welfare Fathers ?

And this homeless Father dragging the kids around, they are probably already availing themselves of a shelter. Where to they shit ? Where do they shower ? But in most states they just can't get anything else.

Like I said, look for this problem to grow, for both genders. It is not going away, ever. That would require quite the restructuring of society.

T^T

Is there some reason you do not believe that children were counted in the men/women numbers? The last I checked, children could still be sexed male or female.

bounty44 -> RE: Homelessness (4/15/2017 4:22:00 AM)

aylee, to your question---its typical to reckon things "men, women, children" as opposed to "male, female" into which children would be separated.

that said---unless "homelessness" is defined very liberally, im finding the "1 in every 30" number for children very difficult to accept from a pure numbers perspective---but even then.

Indeed. And re that, a new trend here in the UK:

"Young homeless exploited by sex-for-rent deals as landlords advertise for "naughty girls" to move in"

Thanks Bounty!

Here is a site to give a cite for some numbers and categories.

It looks like the categories maybe Single Men, Single Women, Adults in Families, Children in Families.

So the OP's reddit post is only looking at single adults. When looking at children, sex is not really a consideration, although I did come across information that there are more homeless mothers than homeless fathers. Which does raise an interesting question on which parent provides better for a child.

bounty44 -> RE: Homelessness (4/15/2017 8:29:52 AM)

i think your last statement might speak a little bit to my statistical quandary above, that is, the very liberal way in which "homelessness" is defined.

I suspect, among other things, the "homeless mother with kids" might be in part a resultant of women fleeing harmful situations and staying at shelters or friends until they find a place to live.

when I think "homelessness" I think of people perpetually living on the street in cars or tunnels, under bridges or in the woods without permanent structures, not a 2-3 week stay in a shelter.
