I still say when you go after the department in a case like this it is counterproductive. It encourages coverups if they still get burned when they go after a bad cop.
You know as well as I do that tort law is totally screwed up.
A VERY, VERY high percentages of murder criminal cases against cops are rarely resolved against the officer, especially when a black man is the victim and even if the victim is shown on video running away when shot in the back.
Tort law is their only alternative.
And no matter what the proof you never accept that the cop is innocent.
That's because many times its because cops have the choice to use less deadly means to stop an UNARMED man, but odds are Black Men get a bullet instead.
but then we see a fleeing white man in that same city breaks into a house and shoots at the cops for hours and they work really hard to "peacefully" take him into custody? yea, we have issues with that uneven use of force.
cops know if there's nobody looking or catching them on video, their word will win out, even if they are lying their ass off, even if the coroner has concrete evidence what the officer says is a lie.
That one cop thought he was home free by planting his extra gun on the man he shot 8 times in the back running away from him,
the only way he's in jail for murder IS because he got seen on video shooting AND planting the gun on the dying man.
And no matter what the proof ur first reaction is to never accept that the cop is even possibly guilty.
And even with video evidence, u would more willingly find an excuse for that violence, than say the cop IS guilty of murder.
BS, I lean toward the cops because when all the facts come in it usually favors them.
However there have been several incidents where I have done the opposite.
The female deputy in OK, the shooting in MN, (the first thing to come out was the video), and the case from last week when the passenger was shot in the back while leaving the scene of to loud a party.
It would seem that what happens is you manage to forget when I condemn the cop.
