So given that citizens united ruling allows for unlimited campaign donations and the fact that so many politicians on the right AND the left are paid a lot of money by corporate interests and other groups for speeches, votes, etc. How many of you think that a new constituational amendment should be implemented banning corporate donations, or at least drastically limiting them? Money isn't freedom after all, those who are rich shouldn't be considered more free than those who aren't. I'm pretty sure America was supposed to promise freedom to all, not freedom to the privileged.

Would likely help to end Federal politics as a career. Then, there wouldn't be constant money-raising for re-elections. Plus, limit the extent Government can reach - that is, a more conservative interpretation of the authorities granted by the Constitution. When there are fewer dollars at stake, there is a much lower incentive to try and buy government's favor.

Lower the bar for being found guilty of corruption and ramp up penalties, and that will help, too.

It's disgusting how many politicians can be bought.

I'd also change the way the US campaigns for elections, especially national elections. There is simply way too much time for people to look for graft. Maybe barring campaign fundraising and contributions to after conventions, except to the Party itself might help?

If a politician can be bought, there will be someone or some group that is going to find a way to buy that politician.

Having an electorate that paid attention would be an amazing thing here in the US, too.

Amazing that liberals hate when corporations donate to republicans, but are quiet as fuck when unions give millions of dollars to democrats.

God bless Donald Trump.

Where did I say "amendment against republicans taking corporate money"? Myself and many others don't want ANY politicians to take corporate money, both republicans and democrats. Your partisan blinders are showing, might help to take take them off.

Well fucking said DS, I couldn't agree more with everything you said. Here in Canada we not only have limits on how much campaigns can raise and what benefits politicians receive, but we also limit the length of campaign periods to a fraction of American campaigns. Makes it so they focus more on actual governing than raising money. I'd love to see less of an obsession with money in the US, not only because it will benefit the American people but because it could positively affect many people across the world.

The Supreme Court already decided that corporations are people.

And an amendment can change that.

It can, but the power brokers in Congress and the states would have to want to by a large majority (is it 3/4?).

Not gonna happen.

Coward. Fucking coward. You'd rather roll over and give up than actually fight? And you call yourself a liberal. You primary and vote for people who vow to not take corporate money and you'll build a base that will get there over time. It's not an overnight fight, it will take time, effort, and a dedication to create a better future. Maybe it's just because I'm young and I want a good future that you'll never see? But it sickens me to think you even call yourself a liberal with a mindset like that.

Oh fuck off with the coward bullshit.

All you're proving here is that sometimes young means stupid and arrogant.

I've been fighting for shit longer than you've been alive, you little shit. And part of that means looking at the reality of what you're doing, not "I'll just keep shouting and the protest fairies will make it happen."

And for that, you attack me personally?

Asshole. I hope the sickness has you vomiting all night.

Don't get your panties in a twist when a guy half your age hits the nail in the head. You've been fighting for more than 23 years? How is that going? Look who's president for fucks sakes, seems like your "fighting" has been been real productive Old shits like you saying "be realistic, give up, corporate money is fine, we should keep going and hope things SOMEHOW get better," are absolutely senile. I'm not saying protest, I'm not saying scream, I'm saying VOTE. Primary and replace candidates who take corporate money with those who don't. Actually participate in your democracy at the local, state, AND national levels. Not just the national. I attack you because you're acting like a coward who refuses to fight for a better future because they're afraid of change, that by very definition is cowardice.

Actually, I don't think that is the definition of coward and when we were your age we had a little war going with Vietnam...which if you didn't sleep through school pretty much launched the protests on college campuses that you little snowflakes try to emulate now.

As a secondary consideration, as a foreigner with little understanding of our culture (which is obvious so don't ask for a cite) why don't you act as if all politics is local and explain all your doing in the tundra for the betterment of all mankind?

A yes, the good old war in Vietnam. The war you protested and yet it was a war you lost anyway. Yeah, great job there, you really made a difference plus I've never been to a protest, don't personally believe in them, so what are you claiming is snowflake-like exactly? Because of all the snowflake actions my generation participates in, I'm right there with you to criticize it. The "offended" culture of today is absolutely pathetic and needs to end.

And as a foreigner, I look south at our brothers and sisters and see them in a right old mess my country avoided for the most part. Canadians aren't as different from Americans as you might believe, we are much closer in our cultures than most countries. But no, you Americans are big strong "leaders of the free world" no one could possibly understand or sympathize...except your closest neighbour and trading partner who is affected by your moronic politics. What did I do? I voted in the elections I could vote for, I voted for a prime minister who is pushing actual progressive policies. Policies that most democrats in the USA would turn their nose up at. We have a system where corporations can't buy our politicians, is it too much to think that the "leaders of the free world" can't be less corrupt than some "tundra" to the north? Or are we just too savage to be corrupt? Please, I'm curious to know your answer

You think you just invented that?

How many candidates have YOU campaigned for? Financially supported? Hit the streets for?

You're a lot of talk and an asshole, and you've no clue what you're talking about.

Thanks for explaining what the rest of us have been doing while you stroke yourself. Moron.

Two posts? Oh I hit a nerve didn't I? Probably because you know I'm fucking right and it's driving you nuts. You resort to these pathetic insults when you know all your efforts have been for nothing when corporate interests have been making more of an impact than you have. News flash pal, you've been investing your efforts into CORPORATE DEMOCRATS, people who really don't give two shits about you so long as they get elected. Being a foreigner gives one quite a clear perspective from the outside, you see exactly where the rot is, whereas someone inside can't often tell what's rotten from what's not. It's all around you, and considering your shitty efforts over the decades to actually improve your country, you're almost certainly part of the rot yourself. Primary those corporate democrats, push for a convention, and get money out of politics. Then you might be ready to join the rest of the developed world.

Union members are real people in the same sense corporate shareholders are real people. Good, now you agree with SCOTUS. You must be on your meds mental patient.

Corporate shareholders are not given the opportunity to vote on political contributions, under existing corporate laws that is a matter for the management and board of directors. You are in the longest continuous epic fail in your felchgobbling life, Wilbur, and I do not agree with SCOTUS, you must be suffering a great bout of retardation in the middle of your crippled syphilitic brainstem convulsion attack mental defective shiteater.

Yeah, and what's your bright fucking idea ? You going to organize a march on the capitol or some shit ?

You think we haven't tried ? Well go try it and find out that many things are easier said than done. You try to get congress to take away one of their income streams. Also, while your at it, ban speaking fees for ex-Presidents because that is when they get their bribe money, they don't get it while in office.

You think all us oldsters failed because we were lazy and stupid ? Well go out there and try it yourself motherfuckers. Go ahead. See what you can do. you blame us for failure, well them show us success. And your intimidation (kidnapping included) hasn't seemed to do shit, what are you hgoing to try next ? March on Washington with pencils and paper because you don't like guns ? And even guns would do you no good.

I was taught constructive criticism. That means that when you think someone is doing something the wrong way you tell them the right way. Well engage that. You got advice smartass, we are all ears. We have been at odds with these motherfuckers for generations, and you think it is all that easy just to get rid of them and fix the world ?

And you think you are the only generation to think this shit up ?

I don't agree with Music on alot of issues but he is spot o with this one. What have YOU tried ? Were you in OWS ? Were you in the million Man march ? Have you ever even written your congressman ? What have you tried ? Among us there are people who have tried all those things and they simply did not work. And you think that we can change it all by adopting your attitude ?

Jesus Fucking Christ, how could you be over eighteen and be so stupid. To think you are the first social warriors, the first patriots. The first people who care and are not lazy. How could you know even one iota of history and think that shit ?

And weapons and physical strength have little to do with it. Women marched in the streets to prevent the US from getting into WW2 and they were thrown in jail. However, the burning of bras did seem to get them the vote. Actually in this country Black Men got the vote before White Women. Some of them went to jail as well. Have you been in jail ?

We tried. We voted for outsiders, like Jim Trafficant for example, and they burned him at the stake when he did nothing wrong. They sidelines Bernie Sanders who would have beaten Trump by a landslide. The republicans years before sidelined Ron Paul who could have won, he did really well in the debates even in light of their unfair treatment. The political parties want to control who is in office. They want to give us THEIR choices, and it has been that way for a long time.

Got any bright ideas on how to fix that ? A third party, it has been tried and the establishment pretty much shut it down.

Bottom line, if you cannot do constructive criticism perhaps you should consider shutting the fuck up.

T^T

Yeah, no, dumbass. Unions are real people. Nevertheless, I am against them contributing, as well.

However, unions are given the opportunity to vote on that issue, by a change in bylaws at local and national levels, people who work for corporations are not.

God bless you ignorant retarded felchgobblers.

Even stockholders are disallowed by right...to vote on it. That went they of real corporate democracy, to...the dustbin of history.

When I lived in no. Va. I voted my guy in the HOR out...for 22 years. The previous repub was in even longer. That's two repubs for almost 50 years in one seat. They made sure that most federal defense/consulting contracts (Billion$ worth) went to his district and that federal white collar workers made as much or more than private industry on most levels of exper./educ....so there.

This has all also created a fast-approaching $3 trillion unfunded, federal retirement, benefit liability. And my point is also, that he got all of that by also voting for what the other repubs wanted for their corporate sponsors.

Actually he is the one who hit it square on the head. All you are doing here is proving his point.

The OPs suggestions seem more productive than mine. A while back I posted:

...At this point, it appears the only way to make a peaceful world possible iz to tar and feather every last politician and rip up existing legislation and make government pay equitable to minimum wage and lobbying punishable. ...(sic)

The composition of the legislatures needs to change. The Working Families Party is starting to be successful in replacing Democrats here and there in state legislatures, as has the Libertarian Party in replacing Republicans here and there, and the Green Party has quite a few.

Congress has a few independents. Getting a core of third party members, even a relatively small one, would mean both "major" parties would have to work with them to pass legislation.
