Unfortunately, I don't have much time either. Just quick to address a couple of things. It wasn't that gay men turned 'straight'. Rather, it was more that there were het people (and prior to that lesbian women) that were drawn to the leather part and wanted that in their own relationships and activities. Protocol, rituals, common bond within community, structure, hierarchy, formality, etc, etc, etc. There's also the fun stuff that's pretty alluring, too. The S/m, the M/s, the sex, the partying... (They are called leather BARS for a reason, folks.) As leather has come along over the decades, it's also got elements of education, community service, activism, leather history on it's own. The elements that are a little less about the fun stuff and what leather has grown into over the years. Way too much to cover as a quickie. [;)] A part of this relates to something called the generations of leather. If I get the chance, I'll try to come back and add two cents about that.
