I don't know anything about 'Old Guard' or 'Leather Families'. Are they one in the same? And what are they exactly? I came through the Gorean door so i don't know much from the other side.

Unfortunately, I don't have much time either. Just quick to address a couple of things.

It wasn't that gay men turned 'straight'. Rather, it was more that there were het people (and prior to that lesbian women) that were drawn to the leather part and wanted that in their own relationships and activities. Protocol, rituals, common bond within community, structure, hierarchy, formality, etc, etc, etc. There's also the fun stuff that's pretty alluring, too. The S/m, the M/s, the sex, the partying... (They are called leather BARS for a reason, folks.) As leather has come along over the decades, it's also got elements of education, community service, activism, leather history on it's own. The elements that are a little less about the fun stuff and what leather has grown into over the years. Way too much to cover as a quickie.

A part of this relates to something called the generations of leather. If I get the chance, I'll try to come back and add two cents about that.

::giggles:: Sorry about that but the mob was demanding food and school and work were demanding punctuality and I had already used up my self-alloted morning cup of joe time to write/read the forums when I noticed the thread.

Delayed gratification is sweet though at least from the perspective of my almost non existent inner sadist. I will be back because even right now, if I don't get to make sure my chocolate has just the right amount of mad (temper) we won't be getting our S'MoresOn after Nerf Wars tonight.

Topics I like to discuss and in no particular order: power, Leather history, actual leather (care of, hides used), toys and perverting not meant to be toys into toys, equipment, fusion (mixed media), technology and the Internets influences on issues under the alternative umbrella, forum issues, ideas, relationships (harder subject I find, for me, these days), fun stuff like figging and bondage and spankings and blood..oh..lots of other stuff but there is sweet from my own sweat in the near future so..

I don't really have favourite subjects, I just like the ones that get discussed organically, but without all the stupid whinging derailment we've had of late. I don't even mind when topics get heated because of opposing views, although I won't bother with P&R, but the slagging matches are boring (not to say that I won't give as good as I get with certain socks these days as I find them just too obnoxious to allow them to get away with it).

We used to have some really great topics come up, but we lost far too many of our regular posters.

It helps to have some control over trolling. Especially to argue.

I'm at the point of just skipping over straw men and ego plays these days. I don't have to feel defensive if I find myself having nothing I want to say to someone who replied to try to rile me. Easy to shut down nonsense when you realize this.

I think I'll save the whole old guard vrs new guard thing. I'm sure it will come up sooner or later.

So, topics. Here are some that I've enjoyed in the past:

Anything about sub-cultures in kink. Leather, Gor, Taken In Hand, 1950's household... Culture. History. In the great umbrella of kink, why does a person want to identify they way they do?

The Theory of Consent. Is consent just about the playroom?

Ch-ch-ch-Changes. More for the kink vets. Topics about how kink has changed in our lifetimes.

Just starting out. Topics about going to that first much, first convention... Whatever.

The ties that bind. Something for the rope/bondage enthusiasts.

Don't hate the player. A thread for those who aren't into D/s, but more for the tops, bottoms, and kinksters.

In the gloaming. When real life interrupts BDSM.

Well, you get the idea.

Not to be a stickler but...
True Gor is more a philosophy on it's own and not a subset of kink.
Player Gor would be considered a subset of kink and not a part of Gor.
