In Saudi Arabia, Trump Reaches Out to Sunni Nations, at Iran’s Expense

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia — As voters in Iran danced in the streets, celebrating the landslide re-election of a moderate as president, President Trump stood in front of a gathering of leaders from across the Muslim world and called on them to isolate a nation he said had “fueled the fires of sectarian conflict and terror.”

That nation was Iran.

In using the headline address of his first foreign trip as president to declare his commitment to Sunni Arab nations, Mr. Trump signaled a return to an American policy built on alliances with Arab autocrats, regardless of their human rights records or policies that sometimes undermine American interests.

After all the buddy/buddy talk, now, when he's being investigated, it's all about Sunni vs. Shia. Arabia vs. Iran.

Just one problem: Russia is Iran's ally and trading partner.

Oh, and the Sunni rebellion against the Shiite rulership in Syria has the US on one side, Russia on the other. Syria and Russia are also long-standing allies and trading partners.

What happened to deal making?

Flame for existing tensions, and more involvement in more conflict in the Middle East.

Is it all about the oil? We only get 11% of our oil from SA: we get three and half times that from Canada (without a pipeline).

Or is this another business deal at the expense of US taxpayers? And maybe, more US lives.

UH-OH: Trump Didn't Dump The Iran Deal. Now A Majority Of Republicans Approve Of It.
resident Donald Trump has yet to scrap the Iran deal after railing against it throughout the campaign. Now a majority of Republicans support the disastrous Iran deal.

A new poll from Morning Consult/Politico shows that 53 percent of Republican voters support the Iran deal and only 38 percent oppose it. In the summer of 2016, 37 percent of Republicans supported and in the summer prior to that 10 percent supported the Iran deal.

The support for the Iran deal as a whole has increased as now 56 percent of American voters support the deal while only 29 percent oppose it. In August 2016, 49 percent supported the deal and 36 percent opposed it and in August 2015 56 percent opposed it and 27 percent supported it.

This is a disturbing trend of support for a disastrous deal; it seems that the increased support is coming from Republicans, which means that the culprit for higher support of the Iran deal is likely Trump.

On April 18, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson sent Congress a letter stating that Iran is following the deal, although it has been reported that Trump added language hammering Iran for being a state sponsor of terror. Tillerson later slammed the deal. But despite the rhetoric, the Iran deal remains in place and there is no indication that it's going to be repealed in the near future.
