There is no security in American airports.  The smoke and mirrors are designed to ensure the airlines stay afloat and allow people to think the government is "doing something" when in fact you are less safe today than ever before.

Prior to 9/11 I boarded a plan with a classic Colt .45 and the idiots weren't even sure what they were looking at even though it was in pefect profile.

Last time I flew I was informed I was going to be searched and they would call me when they were ready for me...

My basic standard for security is that I cannot see the holes in it before your lips stop moving.  I won't go into it here but smuggling weapons on board an airplane is a bit harder but still effortless.

So greatly increased threat and only minorly increased security = less secure overall.

Another way Bush has made America less safe.

Lady Ellen, thank you for the most interetsing post. :-)

Agreed CrappyDom. I've walked through airport security with syringes, knives, piano wire, unmarked pills, open bottles of unknown liquid.. blah blah blah. I once had airport security search my bag, confiscate my nail file, and leave my switchblade because they couldnt figure out how to get it open. That certainly makes me feel same. And after having left me ( a young, rather athletic looking slightly goth girl) walk on through wearing spikes and carrying a switchblade... they searched an 80 yr old woman and took away her knitting needles. I was completely flummoxed. Talk about smokescreens.

what were the pills?

Lol, while I'm not sure it makes a difference, there were a couple different kinds of antibiotics, ratio oxy-cocet, and triazolam.

I'd brag about the time I brought a nuke on board, but that may make me look like I'm full of shit.

So I won't.

Yours,
