NorthernGent -> RE: Why would Bush Lie? (7/27/2006 10:27:56 AM)

westside, A point of view: Bush, like Blair, will lie because, if he called it as it is and said "we are more than happy to send our troops to far off parts of the world to slaughter them for economic gain" it wouldn't go down particularly well. Hence, they use smoke screens such as WMDs in the knowledge that a significant proportion of the population will be completely fooled by the propaganda and thus they gain tolerance or support for their policies. It goes without saying that business plays a significant role in politics - for example, over here, our traditionally left-wing party has been caught red-handed taking bribes from businessmen in return for favour - when this happens to your left-wing party you know business has an iron grip on politics. Where business has such a grip on politics there is no real option but to follow their lead and as the whole essence of business is to increase the wealth of shareholders they have no real concern for social issues and will consequently demand from those subservient to them (i.e. politicians) that they say anything to anyone to achieve this wealth/economic gain - including lies.
