You reap what you sow. The GOP held its nose and nominated the orange disaster as its candidate. Trump managed to win a majority in the electoral college and became President. At first everyone in the GOP cosied up to the orange disaster, thinking that Rep control of Congress and the White House would usher in an era of untrammeled power. There were some nagging doubts about the Russian connection, and some who stood up on principle, refusing to kowtow to the orange disaster and reminded the GOP of the risks it was taking with Trump. But the GOP and its base hoped that those doubts would disappear ... Now, despite multiple denials and even firing the FBI director who refused to close the inquiry into the Russian connection (can there be a stronger hint that there was something to hide?), the Russian connection refuses to go away. Quite the opposite, with each passing day it is getting closer and closer to the White House and the orange disaster himself ... The issue is growing and consuming all Washington's energy. The media is relentless in pursuing each detail, leak and rumour. The White House and GOP is leaking like a sieve as various factions jockey for the President's ear. The net result of all this is, instead of the strong leadership that promised to 'Make America Great Again', we see an Administration paralysed, incapable of leadership at home or abroad, incapable of even repealing Obamacare despite having the numbers in both Houses. Not a single one of Trump's signature promises has been enacted. We see an Admin that features bellicose hyperbole backed up with total inertia, an Admin trapped in a quagmire of its own making sinking deeper every day as the compromises it and the GOP made in a rush to gain power tear it apart. We see an Admin lurching from crisis to crisis with all the grace of a drunken sailor. Now there are prima facie cases against the President for obstruction of justice, against his son and son-in-law and Mannafort for cullusion with a foreign power to influence the US election, against Flynn for multiple offences (for which he, in true mafioso style pleads "da Fifth") and more inquiries that you can throw a hat at. No one knows where it will all end but for the first time words like 'treason' are being bandied about by otherwise sober observers. And the Trumpanzees remain in a state of dazed yet belligerent denial as the legal nooses tighten with each passing day ... The GOP got what it wanted - total power - but it refused to believe that there was going to be a price to pay or that the price for prostituting yourself for power was this high. There was no shortage of voices warning all what a Trump Presidency would be like. No one can say that they weren't warned. So far it has been a case of poetic justice. It looks like legal justice will follow shortly.
