ORIGINAL: BamaD I specifically stated that I was not accusing you of anything, but you insisted on reading it so you could be mad about it. And you have accused ne of being a bigot from our first contact. I watched a youtube video with a guy speaking about multiculturalism. Something he said jumped out at me as damn true: If you start looking for racism everywhere, you'll find racism everywhere. What comes after that? You'll find racism in everything and everyone. [paraphrased; explaining it not being quoted] I've seen people rant about 'Cracker Jack' snack as being racist. It's sad and amazing, really. His dismissal of you point pretty much proves your point. Any intelligent person knows that if you are obsessed with and only look for something you find it, even if it isn't there. Interesting that DS talks about a video without providing a link to it. So, we should take him at his word? Maybe if you had a real computer you could watch it too. LMMFAO!!! You're really acting like an idiot now, Vince. Here's a question for you: If there was no video, would it really matter? That is, does someone saying it on a video make it any more legit than my typing it in a post? But, since you questioned it... Peter Thiel: What is Multiculturalism Really About? Unfortunately, the video began buffering at 4:39 but I was able to get the gist of his argument. I am satisfied that his point is to dismiss racism and multiculturalism by fraudulently reframing them. This is a well known debater’s trick. . . . setting up strawmen. Multiculturalism arises from the growth in the presence of none-WASP cultures in the U.S. It is not as Thiel claims an effort to portray Western culture as evil. He is either stupid or misinformed. More likely a propagandist for the wealthy, conservative libertarians. He is obviously a very successful man, so he is not stupid. But he is speaking from a specifically biased point of view. Multiculturalism is not so sinister. It is simply the same attitude that my ancestor migrants brought with them when they arrived. They wanted to protect their unique cultural factors and not have them submerged and completely lost by total assimilation into the American melting pot. Latinos and Asians newly arrived are saying that America is a salad bowl of cultures and not a melting pot, and that is a good thing. It is a recognition of the arrival of people who are different in culture than the prevailing western European culture and the simple fact that these “southern hemisphere” cultures will soon outnumber the West European heritages of America. It is the reality that the nation faces. On racism, you really don’t have to look very hard to see that America’s original sin is still ubiquitous. You can buy into Thiel’s propaganda if you wish but all you have to do is look at the complexion of the faces in Trump’s rallies to see the lie of Thiel’s statement. As a nation we have 230 years or so of persecution of blacks and Asians. The awful history is quite clear. The denial of racism is simply an absurdity proposed by people of power and absorbed by their ignorant adherents. What I find especially sad is that you, a person who seems to be an intelligent man, would dwell on a couple of simplistic bumper sticker statements by Thiel and accept them without close examination and questioning. That tells me that your opinion was already slanted and you were readily receptive to his empty nonsense. Very disappointing. Your computer wouldn't play the whole u-tube? Maybe you should take it back to toys are us. Again your world view demands racism everywhere so that is what you see.
