Nnanji -> Health Care (7/26/2017 8:34:53 PM)

I wonder why this wasn't discovered by some one from a country with "FREE" health care?

Detroit, a city ruined by the hubris of US auto manufacturers who consequently got their ass kicked by international competition with long-term thinking going ahead and doing what the US always could have done if they didn't have so much hubris and short-term thinking.

WickedsDesire -> RE: Health Care (7/27/2017 5:17:33 AM)

Maybe they are too busy treating the ill paupers of wretch and simply have no time for scuba diving?

Are you sure you are not boscox because he doesnt read the links he posts either

So you dont have to read the link with the misleading headline (heh boscox does that too)

Lab testing has shown that several molecules in this sponge selectively destroy pancreatic cancer cells, said Mark Hamann, a University of South Carolina researcher working with Fred Valeriote of the Henry Ford Cancer Institute in Detroit.

Patients’ chances of survival at five years for this tumor are only 14%, according to the American Cancer Society.

“I’ve looked at 5,000 sponge extracts over the last two decades,” Valeriote said. “In terms of this particular pattern of pancreatic and ovarian cancer selective activity, we’ve only seen one (other) sponge with such activity, and that was one collected many years ago in Indonesia.”

PS Real0ne do you think you can give us idiots the gist of the pdf? I click on all links but 12 pages is a bit much

FYI, the organisation responsible for the discovery you have cited, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, is a division of the US Dept of Commerce. IOW this discovery and research was funded by your US Govt.

The connection you made in your post - that there is a relationship between this research and the for profit type of healthcare service operative in the US - is odd. Are you suggesting that all healthcare research successes are a direct function of the funding model of the relevant healthcare system? Unless you are implying this, your post makes no sense.

However if we grant this dubious premise, then it's clear that research funding provided by the Govt is a raging success in your eyes. Well I am glad you have finally seen the light. I was under the mis-apprehension that you weren't in favour of the Govt intervening in healthcare matters. In this respect I stand corrected.

Lucylastic -> RE: Health Care (7/27/2017 6:00:10 AM)

LOL yep only the US finds medical breakthrus....

Just think how much money they will save once they have deleted the poor and sick from getting healthcare .....so much winning for those who can afford it.

I'm aware that often things make no sense in your narrow minded world. But thanks for stating it again.

There are no countries with free healthcare so your nutsuckerism is a typical Nancy epic fail at the outset.

Auto makers played their part but they're not even close to the whole story. I don't want to derail the thread so I'm just going to put up this link. Check it out if you want to.

I dont get the Detroit reference any of you - They planning on bringing coal fired cars back or something?

So over to Snake Pliscan (fuk it close enough)

Escape From New York Original 1981 Trailer

His finest work was of course Big trouble in little China

Where the American car industry (or at least the big three) used to be based, sport.

(Monkey I was very impressed by indeed, but The Water Margin was before my time. The huge fat novel is great fun, though...)

servantforuse -> RE: Health Care (7/27/2017 9:34:06 AM)

Lets also mention what the UAW did to that city and the companies they were employed by.

WickedsDesire -> RE: Health Care (7/27/2017 9:38:26 AM)

Really? I was half joking about coal (not that most people on earth know much about that) fired cars. The Proclaimers - Letter From America

Anything you've not read? You've not read Robert Rankin have you - he be my favourite.

The Third Policeman best book I have ever read. How about that one smarty pants?

Oh right how do I explain Monkey and the Water Margin to pretty much everyone else it would seem. Not that I knew it was a book.

Musicmystery -> RE: Health Care (7/27/2017 9:43:09 AM)

Nothing had a bigger impact than this:

- gee, it's double digit inflation. Let's put all our investment into short term cash. People will buy the cars we make -- they have to.

Meanwhile, in Japan, Sweden, Germany, Korea, they were saying this:

- let's plan for the long term. We'll live with 6% return now, even though others are getting double digits. We'll build the cars people want that right now aren't being made -- especially fuel efficient cars.

Now, Detroit always could have made those cars. But they didn't want to retool. By the time they did, their market share had shrunk dramatically, and they had serious competition from that day on.

Blaming the UAW or blacks (as another poster did) isn't the primary reason. It was a one industry town, and that industry made an arrogant business mistake.

And, what happened to that one industry?

Free Market Capitalism has 2 things that are absolutely vital to it working properly: ability to profit, and ability to lose. Take away one, and you no longer have Free Market Capitalism. And, it doesn't matter which one you take away.

there has never been any free market capitalism on the face of this earth. past; present; future, you have had and to a great degree in this country now, laissze faire capitalism, but one is real the other one is hallucination.
