They don't want the diplomats over there any more. They want them here.

I think they can dictate how many (and if any) diplomats are allowed from any country. I don't think the US (or any other country) can force another country to accept diplomats.

So, in a nutshell, yes, Russia can, to an extent, tell the US to do something, and the US should comply with the diplomat sanctions.

A more important question, is whether or not the US can unilaterally impose sanctions on another country.

Well if we can expel theirs, they can expel ours.

When they get a vote this solid, I suspect AIPAC, though I am not sure why they would care. It might be that Putin limits their influence in Russia. Hard to say at this point, but like most things, if we pay attention, sometime in the future the answers will come. Problem is most people forget by that time.

Everything to do with Russia has to do with the market. They could not care less about Ukraine or Crimea, except how they affect the market. They also lie. Crimeans voted to join Russia. So of course they claim the election was rigged. The Russians fighting in Ukraine are not there by order of the Russian government. They live there. And the People of Georgia asked Russia for help. They conveniently forget to mention that. It makes you think we would be welcomed as liberators, just like Iraq. Welcomed alright, picked off from ever window on the block. They forget to mention that Assad did not use the gas. They forget to mention alot of things, conveniently.

I find iit hard to believe that congress believes the bullshit, they have access to some intel you now. That is why I suspect they are bribed. They were certainly bribed to make supporting BDS illegal, and they should know that is totally unconstitutional. But AIPAC brags about it. Fact is they vote their wallet, whoever fills it the most gets what they want. It has been that way for most of our lives.

If relations are that bad with Russia, we should just pull all our people out of there. Like Benghazi, I don't fault Hillary Clinton for not sending in the Marines or whatever, we can't turn every embassy into Fort Knox. I fault her for what she said afterwards. Plus, we fucked with that country quite a bit, that would be the last place I would want to be. I would be home on the couch eating pizza and watching a Star Trek rerun.

Russia can order any non-citizen out of their country they damn well please. So can we. Let congress impose their largely useless sanctions, once Trump explains to them what veto proof means he should have no problems in his dealings with them.

Bottom line : Big deal.

I just read that we have over 700 diplomats in Russia. I was surprised there were so many.

Who says Trump is going to veto it? Apparently, he signaled he'd support it over a week ago.

It is my understanding that when Obama hit back at the Russians, he kicked out 35 diplomats and closed to compounds.

Putin will do the same.

The US sanctions are only those that the US can implement. However, it is also my understanding that the US asks other nations to join in...some may be pressured to do so.

So they have 35 diplomats here and we have 755 diplomats there. That doesn't make sense.

Most of what this government does does not make sense. Until you find the actual reason for it.

What Putin wants is very fair. Why does US need so much diplomats in Russia if they aren't gonna be friends with Russia anyway?

If you aren't allies, that's all the MORE reason to have diplomats there.

Historically, yes.
Under the current management, after the shite el presidente has been spouting since November about the freeloading scum in NATO, and dissing every world leader about apart from Putin and the house of Saud, exactly who's going to feel obliged to support him in imposing sanctions?

What Lucy said DesideriS...infact Scarmunga was on the telly on his first day in the Job blethering pish and saying, amongst other non- tremendous things, Comrade Orange might sign.

Senate: 98-2 vote was comprehensive (what was the lower house vote anyone?)

5 investigations are running, one of them criminal. Trump-Russia probe - diced and sliced

Is the end in sight for any of these? And if found guilty what then? And you have to know that Russian are hurting now, and even back when they decided to endorse Trump as their preferred candidate. Their guilt is apparent, and inevitable. I have taken the collusion & obstruction aspect out of the equation-my answer.

According to this morning's Chicago Tribune, the expulsion of 755 American diplomatic staffers will leave 455 staffers still in Russia - the same number that Russia now has in the U.S. after Obama expelled 35 Russian staffers about 7 months ago.

The current total of U.S. staffers (1,210) is higher than you might expect because in addition to the main U.S. embassy in Moscow, there are also U.S. consulates (with staffs) in the Russian cities of St. Petersburg, Vladivostok, and Yekaterinburg.

jlf1961 -> RE: Can Russia Order US to do anything? Are we playing Poker? (7/31/2017 10:28:15 AM)

There is an easy solution to the whole problem with Russia.

Russia is still the biggest purchaser of grains from the US, due to the simple fact that even with the collapse of the Soviet Union, Russian farming efficiency is still in the toilet.

In fact, since the US is the largest grain producing country on the planet, if we stopped exporting to Russia, they could not purchase enough grains from the rest of the world to make up the difference.

Yes, there is the argument that by stopping the sale of grains to Russia, we basically are consigning a lot of people to malnutrition if not out right starvation.

However, we are talking about Russians who elected Putin and his band of merry men to office, so they are just as bad as the bald asshole, so let the mother fuckers starve.

This will result in one of two things, either the population of Russia will drop dramatically over the next couple of years, or the people will kick the son of a bitch out of office and get a moderate.

Now if the population drops, that means their standing military forces drop, and since we could very easily eliminate their nuclear threat with a strategic first strike, we could then move in, take their oil fields and make the Koch brothers very happy.

To quote my old first sargent, the only good Russian is a dead Russian.

What right does the Federal Government have to unilaterally sanction Russia, especially with such severe a severe embargo on a basic foodstuff?

I see. They elected a "strong leader" so fuck 'em? Let them die?

If we're sanctioning Russia over meddling in our elections, how, exactly, is this not meddling in their elections?

How imperialistic of you. I, on the other hand, hope for a less imperialistic USA.

FR

Russians do not live on wheat, nobody does. Wheat makes bread and pasta, empty carbs. Find out where they buy their meat and veggies.

Also bear in mind that there is no real evidence they did anything. We've been through all that. It is all a matter of "he said they did it" with not one shred of real evidence.

So if you want to piss off people who are the only ones who can really give us trouble, go right ahead. Life was getting boring anyway.
