Turned out, the cop brought a tazer to a gunfight Guessing here - was the cop hesitant to use the proper force, because of the suspect's skin color? Have you considered the possibility that many of your coppers don't shoot people to death because they have their hands in a pocket?

All cops need to aim better! They need to be movie perfect. If only they can shoot to just wound and slow down criminals and not kill. Then innocent shootings wouldn't result in death. This is the complication of gun country. Our cops carries guns everywhere, but they never use it, as criminals here don't have guns. But over there, both are suspicious of each other, it's all about who pull the trigger first ALL the TIME! So I just expect there to be alot of unnecessary shooting for as long as guns remain legal. And specifically for the US. That's gonna be forever! PS: Shouldn't all cops wear bullet proof vest underneath their unforms?

the problem is that very few people here 'carry' guns on their person though many own guns. the additional problem is that everyone should carry a gun and dont.

he had a reason, that reason was he was most likely oging to be arrested and if you shoot the cop and get away with it you wont be arrested, at least in his mind, so much for reason.

The cop was stopping him because he had just committed a crime. And you are absolutely correct. He had complete justification for demanding that the hands should be in the open. There was ample reason to be concerned that he wasn't just keeping his hands warm. Not everyone owns a gun, let alone carries one. Even though I would not have committed a crime when the cop approached me in any sort of way to indicate it was a professional encounter my hands would be out where he could see them.

You will find that CCW holders keep their hands in sight at all times when dealing with the police. It isn't the ccw holders that area threat it is the people who carry illegally who are the problem.

The complaint against Malcolm Orr was that he was a "suspicious person" and that he was trying to take groceries from customers. We don't know if any force was applied nor do we know if he actually robbed someone. During the video we see Orr walking away with his back to the cop Quincy Smith. Smith persisted. Not sure if he was armed other than with the taser. But I heard Smith repeatedly threaten Orr with harm. That is no excuse for Malcolm Orr to turn around and fire off eight shots at Smith. I am not contesting the jury verdict. But, I do believe Smith's actions were reckless and Smith endangered himself, tragically. It is important to note that at no time did Smith give Orr a specific reason why he wanted him to stop. To stop you a police officer must have a specific reason to suspect your involvement in a specific crime and should be able to tell you that reason when you ask. Sadly, Orr did not ask; maybe he was guilty of some other crime. There was no mention he was carrying drugs so this is just speculation. All too bad.

In the video, the people in the store (multiple witnesses) described the criminal behavior and pointed him out to the cop, saying "that's him" The cop got shot because he was being way too PC in the face of obvious danger, probably playing to the body cam he was wearing
