Well, if you had bothered to read the linked article, what actually happened is this was going to be Lee's first play-by-play, and ESPN thought that there might be some shitheads who would make a fuss over his name and so they asked him if he would like to do a different game for his debut, and he agreed and asked for a different game.
Funny how shit is not quite as bad as you think when you actually look at the facts, eh?

They took this game away because Robert Lee was doing a VA game.
Even thinking of it meant they were a little deranged.

Damn Bama... it was for his safety not because his name offended their liberal sensibilities.

Butch

So they were afraid of the extremist anti southerners. Maybe those people aren't as nice as we are told.

Imagine the universal outrage if ESPN had caved to a different set of extremists, say the Klan.

You mean if say a broadcaster's name was....hmmmm...Clinton?... You will have to face up to the fact that there are more liberals for ESPN to worry about than you minority conservatives... stop complaining and change minds....

Lee is also a old English name, one of our founders was also Harry Lee.

It's very strange.
Because Lee is such a Chinese word. Doesn't sound English.

And on top of that, you are talking to an Asian here! Who are non-confrontational people.

Yeah, even John Belushi knows it was the Germans who bombed Pearl Harbor.

Them fighting in a war has nothing to do with their culture of being non-confrontational in regular day to day work interaction.

There was a great story, which I really hope isn't an urban myth, about a Chinese restaurant in Kyoto whose owner refused to serve any Japanese customers who didn't apologise for the invasion of Manchuria.

I don't see how these are related.

It's normal for Chinese people to refuse to serve Japanese. Except we are like the same colour, so it's even not seen as racism, but just people from the same skin colour bickering with each other. Some Chinese are still mad at what Japanese did during the war and their refusal to teach their younger generation what happened and all the horrific things they did.

I think alot of Chinese are angry that their younger generation is totally ignorant of what Japanese did in the past that was atrocious.

At least in the US, all kids were educated about how evil slavery was.

Not the Jap kids, wiped from history about any evil doings the Japanese ever did.

I am from the younger generation who never witnessed evil Japanese period. But man, my grandparents, would be like so hostile towards any Japanese.

But ya can be sure, no Japanese newscaster with the same name as some evil Jap soldier, is gonna be told that he needs to lay off broadcasting a certain match.

It's just non-related.

Maybe from Nazis that would not like an Asian taking the name of their hero.

His safety was threatened because his name offended their liberal sensibilities.
If they dropped a black broadcaster because the Klan threatened them it would only be for
They would still be caving to the Klan.

I highly doubt they were protecting him from Nazis. And I doubt he was in any danger from Nazis.
They were more concern about liberals reacting.

This is the wrongest assumption ever, and they shouldn't ever have even suggested that to him.

Perhaps an amusing news may come out about the irony of an Asian Robert Lee. But I doubt there would be been much drama about it.

Not in Va.
The question is the relative danger of the Klan and Intifa, glad to see you proclaim Intifa to be the greater threat. Of course I think we would be better off without either of them.

You didn't type "Day to day" You said that Asians are non-confrontational people which is utter bullshit.

Greta I was being facetious... this whole thread is serious only in that you and others are assigning this as an example of liberalism... which is absurd.

Conservatives wouldn't threaten someone because of their name, leftist obviously will, maybe they should grow up.

Yep that attitude will change minds....and yes conservatives would NEVER dream of doing such a thing... they would much rather just run over people instead.

You don't think that threatening a person because you don't like their name is infantile.
you don't think that caving to extremists encourages n more demands.
Don't you think that it is ok because (I think) there are more of us shows that you are still thinking as if you were still on the playground?
