Musicmystery -> Trump has lost his grip on reality: Editorial (8/26/2017 11:47:21 AM)

Last week Americans and people around the world learned that Donald Trump is morally unfit to be president of the United States. His response to the tragedy in Charlottesville showed he was unwilling to stand up for basic decency.

This week we’re learning something just as disturbing – that Trump may have only a tenuous hold on reality. The frightening prospect that the man with his finger on the nuclear button may actually be mentally unwell is forcing itself onto the public agenda.

Anyone who watched Trump’s extended rant at a campaign-style rally in Phoenix, Ariz., on Tuesday night could not help but wonder if the president is losing his grip. For 75 minutes he lashed out at his perceived enemies, flagrantly misrepresented his multiple attempts at a response to Charlottesville, and indulged himself in extended bouts of self-pity.

Words hardly begin to capture the profoundly unbalanced nature of Trump’s diatribe. Unleashed before a crowd of supporters, unscripted by his handlers, he turned live on TV into a caricature of himself, the proverbial car crash you can’t stop watching. At one point he was boasting pathetically about living in “a bigger, more beautiful apartment” than the “elites” he believes have it in for him.

This has gone beyond the usual calculated lashing-out at enemies in ways designed to gin up Trump’s so-called “base.” There’s no longer any obvious method to the madness. For an increasing number of people, there’s just madness – in the literal meaning of the word.

This is very touchy stuff for Americans. The presidency is a revered institution and the idea that the man in the Oval Office could be unhinged (a word now being routinely used to describe Trump) is profoundly threatening. For the rest of the world, it’s almost as upsetting, considering the crucial leadership role the United States still plays.

And yet… the Washington Post this week carried the headline “It’s time to talk about Trump’s mental health” atop an article by its Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist Eugene Robinson. “It is uncomfortable to talk about the president’s mental health,” he wrote a day before the Phoenix rant. “But at this point it is irresponsible not to.”

James Clapper, a top intelligence official under presidents Barack Obama and George W. Bush, called Trump’s speech “downright scary and disturbing…. I really question his ability… his fitness to be in office.”

A Democratic senator, Jack Reed of Rhode Island, was caught on a live microphone telling another senator, Susan Collins, that “I think he’s crazy. I mean I don’t say that lightly and as a kind of a goofy guy.” To which Collins, a Republican, responded: “I’m worried.”

Other Republicans are treading more lightly but the cracks are starting to appear in their support for Trump. Republican senator Bob Corker of Tennessee raised eyebrows by saying Trump “has not yet been able to demonstrate the stability nor some of the competence to be president.”

In the White House itself, a picture is emerging of an erratic president held up by a coterie of generals and surrounded by aides who see their job as saving America from the top guy. The online site Axios quotes its White House sources as saying they must stay because of the “urgent importance of having smart, sane people around Trump to fight his worst instincts…. ‘You have no idea how much crazy stuff we kill’.”

Some commentators are calling for action under the 25th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which gives the cabinet and vice-president power to relieve the president of his powers if he’s unable to carry them out.

The fact that this is even being seriously discussed shows how far things have gone. Far from growing into the job, Trump is deteriorating, lashing out as his support leaks away.

As ever, the key to his survival is support from his fellow Republicans. That may finally be weakening: the New York Times reports authoritatively that the Senate majority leader, Mitch McConnell, is feuding bitterly with Trump and has “privately expressed uncertainty” that his administration can be saved.

Regardless of political calculations, it doesn’t deserve to be saved. After Charlottesville, Trump forfeited any moral claim to lead his nation. And after Phoenix, there’s ample reason to believe he no longer has a firm grasp on reality.

No examples of the words all of these far left editors are calling "unhinged"?

Curious, that.

There was no comments section under the article either, which that is very typical of far left propaganda rags, because leftists cannot abide by divergent opinions

However, I found a similar article on Yahoo! "News" - and the comments under the article are overwhelmingly in favor of the president, and vehemently oppose the lies and distortions laid out against the choice of the American voters

SSDD, Trump is Hitler, Trump is a Russian agent, Trump is a racist sexist blah blah blah. Judging by reader reaction, those paying attention are not buying the media hype, hysteria, and over-the-top propaganda

Most liked, top posts under the article:

And THERE is the UNBIASED reporting by our national media - "UNHINGED rally". When grownups don't like the candidate who won an election, they soon put aside their dislike and work together FOR THE BETTERMENT OF THIS NATION. But, NOT LIBERALS. They are SPOILED, PETULANT CHILDREN and they infest our media. If another Civil War does happen, it will be the fault of the media. They constantly provoke small events into catastrophic proportion in order to create sensationalism and sell advertising. Some day, the backlash will cost them their lives.

I watched the rally. Nothing unhinged occurred. The media is hoping to sway the thoughts of the ignorant who didn't watch any of this but hope to make you think the way they want you to. Think for yourself and you'll see the media is the liar here.

"Unhinged"?
James Clapper is a political stooge caught up in numerous high level scandals.

He is part of the DC crime syndicate that has subverted the rights of EVERY American.

On March 12th, 2013, during a United States Senate Select Committee on Intelligence hearing, Senator Ron Wyden asked Director of National Intelligence James R. Clapper UNDER OATH the following question:

"Does the NSA collect any type of data at all on millions or hundreds of millions of Americans?"

Director Clapper responded "No, sir."

Incredulously, Senator Wyden asked "It does not?"

Director Clapper responded "Not wittingly. There are cases where they could inadvertently perhaps collect, but not wittingly."

So that he would be prepared to answer, Senator Wyden gave these questions to Director Clapper's office a day in advance of the hearing. Upon the hearing's completion, he also gave the Director a chance to amend his answer. He opted not to do so.

BLATANT PERJURY, a FELONY!

On June 6th, 2013, whistleblower Edward Snowden revealed to the world that the NSA was engaged in a secret program to collect tens of millions of Americans' phone call records. Further revelations would unveil NSA programs collecting Americans' web browsing histories, chat logs, email usage and even their physical locations.

The NSA had been collecting data on hundreds of millions of innocent Americans, and continues to do so.

Finally forced to acknowledge his remarks as "erroneous", Director Clapper claimed that he "misunderstood" the question (which he had been sent a day in advance) and that he had simply "forgotten" the relevant section of the Patriot Act covering these programs.

James Clapper is nothing but a political stooge, a puppet for the DNC.

is he thinks and speaks like regular working class people not PC fancies. Working class ARE the bottom of the pyramid. Everything above us ARE UNNECESSARY. Leaches on the workers. All liberals could disappear and nothing would change.

Liberals / Socialists / Progressives are afraid of their own shadows. What scares a Liberal / Socialist / Progressive more than anything is an informed American citizen who values their Individual Freedoms, Individual Liberties, and Individual Rights granted in the US Constitution. An independent, free-thinking American citizen is more of a threat to the Left-Wing's socialist ideology than anything else. Even more so if that informed American is a hardworking, middle-class, taxpaying voter.....!

There is nothing unhinged about it - the media is owned and controlled. Your narrative is clear as are your lies. What is needed here are new media companies - publicly held and free from the control of shadow Government, CIA, the Worker's Party, George Soros, Bob Creamer, International investment, monopoly, Wall St, etc. - and hefty lawsuits. CNN and the other networks must be held accountable - once the pain begins associated with the millions and millions of dollars in fine - for faking the news, skewed polls, lack of reference data, twisted facts, affiliation with a political party, sedition - Jeff Zucker will suddenly be spending more time with his family - and the US may see a return to honest and objective reporting.

lol here we go.. First it was trumps being investigated for treason. then when they realize that's not true they start in on the "obstruction". then they realize that's not going anywhere either. So they pin the Charlottesville on him to paint him as a racist.. Now after ALL of these false claims and over exaggerated horseschit, here's the newest angle they are going to all jump on the bandwagon about.. "Not fit to serve".. That's what its come to for liberals ONCE AGAIN to try to NOT take the blame for liberalism failing to get Hillary elected.. They must have gotten some leaks from Mueller that Trump is clean.. Wonder what the next "we got him now" moment is gonna be after this moronic horseschit fails to go anywhere LIKE THE REST OF THE MADE UP horseschit??? lol

When you hear conspiracy theories about a "deep state" trying to undermine the President, it is easy to laugh them off. When you have James Comey deciding that he needed notes on Trump meetings when he never takes notes in meetings, based on a hunch that Trump would later lie about the meeting and you see James Clapper describing condemnation of violence as "unhinged", it is easy to imagine that certain highly placed members of the intelligence community are, indeed, involved in such an effort.

I am actually beginning in a small way, to feel sorry for those I know (who voted for Trump) who have some real problems with Wash., but he is by no means cleaning out the swamp. Trump is now the swamp rat of all history.

Yes, the Wash. power elite have a dysfunctional appetite for partisan issues upon which sides are staking out some extremes.

However, the incentive for partisanship IS on the issues not on the normal function of a separation of powers, institutional functions and the rule of law.

What we see now and have for a while from Trump, is the offense he feels personally. No pres. in my lifetime has ever held a rally or news conference or ever actually spoke on camera about such offense. They have all accepted that there will be competing views.

Trump does not. All disagreements are now taken personally and that cannot happen in the oval.

Now the swamp IS Trump.

Yes, very salutary, however:

A) So was Clinton
B) Whining about Trump doesn't address the real problem - the Democrats' corruption and lack of a candidate without ties to big money.

This constant whining about Trump is pathetic. The GOP runs the show until the Democrats can remember who their base is. The longer you idiots continue your parade of stupidity asserting that white men are the enemy, the longer the GOP is going to be in power.

Musicmystery -> RE: Trump has lost his grip on reality: Editorial (8/27/2017 5:51:24 AM)

1) The Democrats aren't going to remember their base. 1/2 of them want to be the new oligarchy, 1/4 of them want to be progressive, 1/4 of them want to be conservative. They are far from unity--and they don't want Trump impeached, because they don't want ultra-conservative Pence.

2) The Republicans are in disarray and can't seem to run anything. There's no sign that will get better.

3) You are just making up shit. Nowhere, anywhere, have I ever suggested white men are the enemy. FFS. That's just some of the malarkey coming from a fraction of folks who like to discover new social justice problems -- not unlike the conservatives who think they live in a walled city under siege, beset from every side.

4) There's a world of difference among whining, making points, sharing opinions, and sharing the news and publications of the day. Even if it's crap, it's relevant if that's what people are thinking and feeling, and worthy of sharing.

jlf1961 -> RE: Trump has lost his grip on reality: Editorial (8/27/2017 7:54:14 AM)

Stupid question:

Which elected person in Washington DC has any fucking concept of reality as it pertains to the average American citizen?

You have liberals who want to ban guns, tear down statues (as if statues have some innate power to influence the behavior of people,) who openly want to give money to people who have found it more profitable to not work, and raise taxes to cover the cost.

You have conservatives who are letting jobs go overseas, are against a minimum wage that is barely above the inflation line, and would like nothing more to see the average American afraid of anyone with a different religious view other than Christian.

And both sides taking money from every fucking lobbyist and special interest group while not doing a damn thing they promised the voters they would do and their excuse is always because of the other party.

If the dems push a bill that has ideas first put forward by republicans, then the whole plan is unconstitutional or violates the rights of the people, if the GOP pushes an ideas first put on the table by democrats, it is either racist, hurts the working class or favors the rich.

And if you think that is bullshit, look at Obamacare, the liberal solution to the health problems in the US.

The mandate to force people to buy insurance was a Republican idea back during Clinton.
Insurance pools- Republican idea during the Clinton administration
Half the goddamn plan was first put forth by republicans during Clinton, and the GOP was all for it, but as soon as the Dems agreed, then it was all unconstitutional, hurt insurance companies etc.

And the current plan they put forward is real close to everything the dems were proposing during Clinton.

Trump's infrastructure plan, very similar to a plan proposed by dems during both Bush's administration, and thrown out because it would mean raising taxes.

These people have no desire to see a damn thing change in America, they have one desire and only one, to collect as much money from whatever special interest groups they can before they get voted out.

And blame the other party for why shit is not getting done.

And the best thing is that they have most of America believing the shit.

And any freshman congressman who tries to actually change things either does not get re elected or forced to toe the party line.

But by all means, keep saying it is the other guy's fault. Passing the blame is the great American philosophy and has been for the last 20 years.

Besides, it aint us who have to fix the shit, that is for our kids and grandkids.

Over the past few months, we have finally entered the fully realized historical revisionism promised in George Orwell’s “1984,” in which the motto, “Who controls the present controls the past. Who controls the past controls the future,” was central to shaping the book’s dystopian world. In the book, history was continually being rewritten and re-promulgated to meet the political necessities of the moment. There was no history to be remembered, let alone lessons to be learned.

For all the talk of Trumpian bluster or exaggeration, there is only one group that seeks to systematically and violently achieve its goals here in the United States on a broad scale: the so-called “anti-facist” movement, now commonly called “Antifa.” And the goal? It’s not “anti-facist” or “anti-racist” as they attempt to portray themselves. It’s the systematic elimination of free speech, free assembly, and free thought via any means necessary, including violent protest, the media and Orwellian revisionism.

It is the imposition of a perverse type of intolerance based on Marxist and Chinese communist values that, it turns out, is far more welcome and pervasive within the Democrat Party of Sens. Bernie Sanders (D-Vt.) and Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) than neo-Nazis, the KKK and white supremacists are in the Republican Party. The gunman, James Hodgkinson, who shot Rep. Steve Scalise and four others in Alexandria was a habitual Antifa website visitor and advocate and Sanders volunteer. Even Democrat vice presidential candidate, Sen. Tim Kaine’s (D-Va.) son has been identified as an Antifa activist.

Yet, the media would have us believe that it is the white supremacist movement that is the real threat to our republic. Consider that most media estimates put the Antifa movement, largely built out of the “Occupy” movement of 2008-2010, at more than 200,000 members. The Southern Poverty Law Center, on the other hand, puts the number of Klu Klux Klan members at about 6,000 KKK …in a country of almost 330 million. But actions speak volumes compared to mere numbers.

The vandalized statue of Christopher Columbus? Antifa. The statue torn down in Charlotte, N.C.? Antifa. The violence in Charlottesville? Antifa. The violence in Seattle? Antifa. Not excusing the vile nature of the white supremacist protest, but it was a licensed march that remained comparatively nonviolent, albeit troubling, until, as one eyewitness described it, “It started raining balloons filled with urine, feces, paint, burning chemicals & boards with nails driven into them.”

This violence against reprehensible, yet innocent citizens, and more importantly, law enforcement, which the Antifa routinely violently opposes, is not the result of a few bad apples. It’s the fundamental philosophy of the loose confederation of Antifa cells, much of it laid out for all to read on “how to” websites.

Ominously, the group that over the past few years has preferred baseball bats, axe handles, even small flag poles — all with nails installed to make them latter day DIY maces — is upgrading their arsenal. Consider what Daryl Jenkins, a national Antifa leader said recently, “If we care about [our country], we’re the ones who need to go out there and do what needs to be done. More and more to the hard left, you start seeing people willing to bear arms. I don’t run with people who don’t care for guns all that much.”

Increasingly, the violence we are seeing on the streets is not the result of the alt-right movement, but of the Antifa movement imposing their views on our society: tearing down statues, burning the American flag, shutting down town hall meetings, destroying private property and looting. All of it tactical toward achieving the goals of destroying the American culture, society and economy. Never mind that the tactics are themselves the tactics of the fascist.

Yet, the likes of CNN and the New York Times and Washington Post spend much of their time touting the alt-right threat. Why? A couple of reasons. First, most mainstream media types are philosophically inclined toward anti-establishment organizations from the start; they see little wrong with crypto-fascist violence if the stated goals are in line with their own values systems.

Second, that the Antifa movement hides behind its opposition to the Trump administration gives them the veneer of respectable protest the mainstream media needs to protect them. Finally, it’s a lot harder to look in a mirror and admit that your own values are being corrupted, when you can easily point your finger at others and judge, especially if the mob encourages and rewards you for doing so.

But as the Antifa movement showed during the Obama administration, with riots and violence during global economic meetings in Washington, D.C. and elsewhere, their ilk have little loyalty to even their most ardent supporters and enablers. The media like CNN and others on the Left coddling them should be careful; you can only embrace vipers for so long before they turn on you.
