ok.... This cracks me up... On sooo mney levels... http://www.politico.com/story/2017/09/06/hill-trump-relations-242411 1. The whole idea of a debt ceiling is absolutely laughably ridiculous. if you don't understand why, then you don't really understand how the debt ceiling works. 2. A 3 month deal around this inane law, is equally ridiculous. It shows that Democrats can abuse this stupid law for political gain as much as Republicans do. (I AM, however, we got funding for Harvey relief) 3. The fact that Trump pissed off pretty much every Republican member of both houses made me snarf my cranberry juice. I LOVE this quote from Paul Ryan: *“I think that’s ridiculous and disgraceful that they want to play politics with the debt ceiling at this moment when we have fellow citizens in need to respond to these hurricanes"* This guy has done nothing BUT play politics with the debt ceiling at every moment he could with a Democrat in the White House. That is the whole problem with concept of a debt ceiling, the ONLY thing it accomplishes is creating an opportunity for the party NOT in the White House to put our economy at risk in order to achieve political gain.

Yes, the right is shocked but one wonders why really. They knew damn well the dems would hold out for whatever they could get. Here Trump is finally being the pragmatist. He doesn't want this to boil over and fuck with the markets. Plus the flood victims still get their help, the country can borrow for three more months, the wall is not in there, etc. Now they know too, it's up to congress to show something meaningful before the next month's (it's 5 weeks isn't it ?) paid vacation.

Gut feeling on my part, but I believe that if not for Harvey and Irma bearing down, this deal would never have happened. No matter how one feels about debt ceilings and partisan politics, this was the most expeditious way to provide hurricane victims with relief.
