French girl mutilated by rats in night attack at home

A disabled French girl covered in rat bites is critically ill in hospital after a pack swarmed into her bedroom in northern France.
The 14-year-old paraplegic was sleeping on the ground floor when the attack happened, in a rented house in Roubaix.
A medical expert quoted by France Info said the girl had 45 facial lesions, 150 on her hands and 30 on her feet.
The girl's father is suing the landlord for alleged negligence. Reports say rubbish bins nearby were overflowing.
The father, who has two other children, said

whoremods aside can any of you lot actually read? I will discount monkey gestures

Mind you I only read the first two books and they terrified me.

James Sherbet

Shit my pants when I read:

1 The Rats (1974)
2 Lair (1979)

I think he's got James Herbert more in mind than the film with the Jacko rat song on the soundtrack. They filmed the first book (badly) and I think released it as Deadly Eyes in the 'States (what's wrong with The Rats as a title?). Part of the reason the film didn't work is because they used beagles to play the rats, and rats don't wag their tales and pant as they leap at somebody to eat them alive...

You do know Herbert based parts of the first book on his experiences working as an exterminator during the '60s, right?

There's a third one Domain (1985, I think), and I'm told there's a "graphic novel" (that is, a big expensive comic) that he did with Ian Miller, but I'm not sure if that's a new story or part of one of the novels retold as a comic, as I've not read that one.

Dachshunds + bad acting, + bad directing.
As opposed to Willard (twice) with the same problems and Ben ( Jackson's song) best of the three.

No, it was Adrian Barbeauin the fog, Deadly Eyes had Sam Groom and Scatman Crothers and actors of less renoun.

MasterWickedness -> RE: French girl mutilated by rats in night attack at home (9/8/2017 6:06:29 PM)

his only saving grace is I know not whomst "Willard" is.

I will leave him to you. If you wish to borrow a big stick from me me simply ask. Five'0 is a bit slow tonight? Who do you think it is (its not lucy win or Greta)? A bitter lying troll rule breaking wench, or am i being paranoid? perhaps it is one of the cabal of itch bitches who have went through the change of lkife - one of those methinks with fuked up granny hormones.

Herbert's The Fog is completely different to John Carpenter's one.
Did you read The Survivor? I think that was Herbert's first supernatural novel (rather than one with a John Wyndham style SF catastrophe driving the plot) and there's a film of that starring Robert Powell, which is quite a bit better than the film of the Rats.
(I think the Stephen King one is The Mist, not The Fog.)

The unicorn thing doesn't ring any bells at all, I'm afraid. I'd probably remember if I'd read any of those...

So I have heard. often a movie will have no connection with the book other than the name.

In this case it doesn't even have that. Carpenter's film and Herbert's book just happen to have the same name. One of those coincidence things.

MasterWickedness -> RE: French girl mutilated by rats in night attack at home (9/9/2017 2:21:13 PM)

John Carpenter - Thanks(again) that is what I was thinking about and I always wondered if that was based on a novel?

Day of the Daffodils fair terrified me- like Fiend without a Face, and the Beast with 5 fingers and also the original of the Fly

But who was that American Author -

MasterWickedness -> RE: French girl mutilated by rats in night attack at home (9/9/2017 2:35:53 PM)

Bentley Little

The Revelation (1990)
The Mailman (1991)
Death Instinct (1992) (writing as Phillip Emmons), also known as Evil Deeds (not that one)
The Summoning (1993)
The Night School (1994) – released as University in 1995
Dominion (1996)

I wonder what the rest were like?

Look at the two theatrical releases called Sahara. No relationship.

Ben

Never been into rat stories or rat movies. Just throwing that one out there.

I could have made much better with my former feral cat pals, were I the story telling or movie making type.

Cats are considered a bit too cute for that, whereas rats have a bad press, despite fancy rats being clever, friendly animals that make good pets and rarely piss behind the sofa instead of in their litter tray.

MW: apart from The Thing and Vampires, I don't think Carpenter has ever made a film that was based on somebody else's novel. He likes to write his own stories for his films and scripted most of them himself. Even those two have radically different endings to the books.
