It occurs to me, though, that if chipmunks and mice were like humans, they'd probably watch cat horror movies.

For whatever reason, there is a market for stories and movies about horrible things being done to ourselves.

There's a nice line in one of the Swamp Things comics about chainsaws only being used in horror films because people are squeamish about being treated the way they treat trees themselves.

All golf courses in Florida have gators in the lakes. No storm needed to wash them in.
Everyone in the know down there knows that if a ball goes in the water, it's lost. But every once in a while you get a Florida newb who will go after a ball and come backing out at full speed just ahead of a pair of jaws. Great fun for the locals.

No, the comic, at least two crap movies (though one does have heather Locklear in it) and a television series I've not seen.
Nothing to do with the swamp that el presidente is pumping more stagnant waterdraining. or a fine ravey disco song with banjos on it...

Those turn up in at least three horror stories (and, incredibly, one children's comic from the eighties) that I know of, but the rat king (actually a queen) in Herbert's novels bears no resemblance to those at all.
