You changed the subject, not I.

No, i was saying that the police have a choice of shooting someone or letting them run off and then they become a potential danger to others.

Here's the rundown of what happened according to local news:

Video shows officers repeatedly telling Schultz to drop the weapon as the student advances.

"Come on man, let's drop the knife," an officer with his gun drawn says in the graphic video. But Schultz walks toward him.

"Shoot me!"

The officer keeps backing up, moving behind a parking barricade and imploring again: "Nobody wants to hurt you, man."

At least four officers had surrounded Schultz by then, according to WSB-TV. In the dorm-window video, one of the officers called out to the student, who consequently turned away from the barricade and began to move toward the new voice.

"What are we doing here?" the officer asked. No reply.

"Do not move!"

"Drop it!" someone says finally, as Schultz takes three more steps toward an officer, and then comes the report of a gunshot and many screams.

Schultz was taken to an Atlanta hospital early Sunday and died there.

I'm glad all of the officers went home safely tonight and no innocent people in the surrounding area were injured.

As am I.

Edwird -> RE: Geogia Tech Student. (9/18/2017 12:03:17 AM)

So here it is, then:

It's good news that the putative protectors of the general public go home unharmed, as they constantly worry the general public by their indiscriminate actions.

Our tax dollars at work.

Edwird -> RE: Geogia Tech Student. (9/18/2017 12:07:05 AM)

I don't know how break this to you, but invading more countries doesn't make this a safer world, and police shooting more black people doesn't make my neighborhood safer.

And here we thought we had it all figured out.

bounty44 -> RE: Geogia Tech Student. (9/18/2017 3:12:04 AM)

I agree too, but its scenes like this, that seem to be repeated with some frequency, that make me wish the police were better at non-lethal takedowns.

Made2Obey -> RE: Geogia Tech Student. (9/18/2017 3:40:53 AM)

The formula for this is simple...
1. Man has a weapon.
2. Police are called.
3. Police arrive and point guns at man with weapon.

4. Police tell man to drop the weapon, multiple times.
5. Man advances on police with weapon.
6. Police shoot man.

The only way to break this chain of events is for the man to drop the weapon when instructed.

The fact that this particular man happened to be a Gay Pride leader has no bearing whatsoever. The knife he was brandishing has no gender outlook or philosophy. This sounds more like suicide by cop than anything else to me. Pretty good chance the cops involved would have much rather been drinking coffee in the local donut shop.

Follow your bliss.

Thanks for pointing out, though, that unarmed blacks and knife wielding whites seem be coming to some accommodation from police standpoint of whom to fire four shots into.

Note than when the police were called they were told that Scout was also carrying a gun.

last time I checked carrying a gun is legal in the US.

The call said he was threatening people, and it was on campus which I am not sure
is legal in Georgia.
I don't think you will find any place where it is legal to threaten people who are not a threat to you.

Oh well since the cops knew for a fact that he had a gun and was threatening people with his gun no surprise they wasted him. [8|]

fuck you this is murca, we dont do that sissy shit here.

jlf1961 -> RE: Geogia Tech Student. (9/18/2017 6:41:38 AM)

From what I read, including witness statements to the reporters, this person dared the police to shoot them, and witnesses even said that the officer was backing up away from the individual when they were rushed.

Suicide by cop, and the surviving family members have a nice, winnable lawsuit, thanks to an American legal system where an idiot can sue a fast food chain because the coffee in a Styrofoam cup they got in a drive through and then put between their legs spilled and burned their crotch.

But the police are to be blamed for not handling a person with emotional problems better.

He was told a number of times to put the knife down, officers were backing away from him when he decided to rush him. What the fuck were they supposed to do, give him a hug while he cut them with the knife?

Real0ne -> RE: Geogia Tech Student. (9/18/2017 6:54:00 AM)

we dont have 'police' we have execution squads

And yet, when there is a knife wielding maniac at your door, I'm guessing you won't be calling Ghostbusters.

bounty44 -> RE: Geogia Tech Student. (9/18/2017 7:51:31 AM)

my assertion is at times, one can insert "subdue weapon wielding man via non-lethal means" into step #6.

And everyone knows that Zimmerman wouldn't have got attacked if he hadn't been stalking the kid in the first place.
(Not to mention the fact that Zimmerman's behaviour since suggests that his head is solid bone and he was thus unlikely to suffer a concussion or any other damage from cranial trauma. Now if the dead thug had kicked him the arse instead, that would likely have caused brain damage...)
