I feel like the Germans that live in Singapore are all not happy with Merkel and saying that Merkel has made Germany an unsafe country for women.

Looks like the election results has echoed their sentiments even though they are based here.

The issue here is, this far right group has been denied entry into the parliament by voters for more than 60 years. And thanks to Merkel.

Now they now got quite a good and strong foot in. Merkel made the far right group that has been shun by Germans for ages popular among Germans again.

As with the US, you know the President cannot pass policies without the co-operation of the Congress, Senators, etc etc.

So there is a reason why despite her win, every media is looking at this as a bad omen, a lost for Merkel, because the new party can control Merkel. And Merkel would have to give in to them on some of their extreme right wing demands.

Here is just one example, the media is all doom and gloom about this results, Merkel has lost power:

https://www.yahoo.com/news/german-vote-could-doom-merkel-macron-deal-europe-040858036--business.html

This will be a new world for Merkel, who has grown accustomed to cozy coalitions and toothless Bundestag opposition during her 12 years in power.

Of course the media wants to scare people... and yes, the idea that fascism is on the rise is scary.
But this is a warning, not the beginning of the end.

I can't imagine Merkel appeasing a party that is essentially the Nazis reborn, and has openly declared Merkel to be a 'puppet of the victors of WWII'.
The European political system tends to focus on coalitions where left wing parties align themselves with other left wing parties and form the government... they will never align themselves with Nazis.

It is scary to think that Eurofascists/Trump will end up gaining power around the world, though.

Merkel has no choice but to appease that party. Because if she chose Trump way of going against. Nothing gets accomplished. She will be getting nothing done. And it will be endless infighting.

You know what is another irony of the Left?

It is like the most typical Leftie saying that, when we keep targetting the Muslims and holding them responsible for their religious extremism. We are infact pushing the Muslims to support their extremism.

But they don't practice what they preach.

Like Merkel Syria policy was very radical extreme far Left.

So the more they condemn and not listen to people's concerns and holding this holier than thou attitude, condemning those against refugee friendly policies as racist or whatever.

Even the moderate now has turn far right.

This is how Trump get elected by appealing to Far Right ideas.

And how as you said, a Nazi supporting party is now back in Action.

In a democracy, whether the politician believes in their own ideas or not, they got to do two things.

1) Convince people to their ideas (which Merkel failed)
2) Do what majority wants even if it goes against your beliefs.

The result of neither of that happening is not staying in power.

Democracy only protects what majority wants.

So take for example for Myammar. Majority of the population does not want Rohingyas in their country. Even if put to a democratic vote, the locals support the military. That's democracy.

Accepting refugees isn't a 'very radical extreme far Left' policy at all.
It's basically just about helping people who need help.

I would be more likely to credit her Christian values for it than her 'leftism' (especially since her party leans right).
But of course, in America many Christians don't actually have Christian values... so a lot of posters here wouldn't understand.

No, the issue here is that she will need to enter into a coalition with a less extreme right-wing party whose values don't match her own.

Part of the coalition is she will have to agree to some of their far right demands. Give and Take. Compared to before where she had free rein for her leftie ways.

The far right won't be part of the coalition.

Accepting the 1 million refugees is a "radical extreme far left" thing to do. I bet no "right party" will ever do this. Even though they are Christians.

Most normal countries will accept a little but still put their national security first. If you read about Bangladesh and India, their respond to Rohingya Crisis. They are talking about helping them but also, cordoning them and not assimilating into their own country.

They often speak of National Security comes first.

It really isn't that bad.
The far right has made gains but that doesn't mean it's here to stay.

If you look at the demographics, a lot of people who support the far right/Trump are baby boomers who are going to die off soon.

Merkel's party IS right wing, so yes, her party did it.
They historically enter coalitions with the social democrats because they are both centrist... but it doesn't mean Merkel is a leftist.

Other nations' politics are different... like in America, where 'Christianity' is associated with hatred, the GOP, and trying to force your religious beliefs on people who don't want them.

How the hell is 12.6% of the vote a "Big Win"?

Why do you post such utter bullshit greta?

Greta, as usual you know hardly anything about what you post:

1) Merkel's parties (CDU/CSU) got about 33 %; so they will remain the strongest party in parliament and form a new coalition. As it stands there is only one option - no, not including your beloved neofascists

2) The CDU and CSU are moderate conservative-liberal parties.

3) The only coalition possible after the results of yesterday's election is what is commonly called "Jamaica": black (CDU/CSU) - yellow (FDP, neoliberal) - green (ecologist-liberal) unless the SPD change their mind about another coalition.

4) Your admired neofascists (AfD) split only hours after election results. Their leading figure and co-leader Frauke Petry left the parliamentary club already (and more likely to follow).

5) There have been numerous neofascist parties in Germany after '45. At times they got elected and had some seats in löcal, state, and federal pariaments. They usually proved to be politically ineffective, lazy, corrupt, and a just a bunch of rogue protesters violently fighting each other. They usually did not get re-elected. The AfD does its best to follow these examples only hours after the election.

and btw - Germany is neither any safer nor unsafer as a country for women as it was when your expat friends (... und tschüss ...) left. How do I know? I live here.

Well of course they are. They've seen what happened to Sweden.

The delicious irony of the Sweden situation is that the feminists who invited the Islamic hordes in are now avoiding the city centers where the Islamic men hang out.

Why?

Because of sexual harassment from Islamic men.

Big surprise.

It is a very big win for someone who never got into one of the major parties in the parliament for more than 60 years.

Suddenly, they have some power of influence now on Merkel's policies.

They got 3rd Place! From Last Place the past 60 years!
