It's not a matter of insulting a person's beliefs: she has the right to believe anything she wants.  However, at what point does one draw the line?  Certainly, I realize that the messaging is uninhibited, and that is the best aspect of this site.  However, it's not a matter of what a person should be allowed to do.  Anyone has the right to knock on my door, and I have the right to turn anyone away.  The same is true in sites like this.

Had the same message come more than once from anonymous or randomly generated email addresses, I'd be livid, as there is no way to block them.  I don't believe in forcing my opinions on others, and I certainly don't believe in missionaries or evangelicals, however, that is my opinion, and I won't contest it with someone as being right or wrong.

Actually, I'd like this sub (as of yet unnamed, propriety I suppose) to start her own thread, because I'd really hear how she would respond to the community's input.  A one way message is not communication, and helps no one.

And I give myself the right to make fun of anyone, mostly because, well, what is anyone else gonna do about it?  Besides, if I couldn't make fun of people, I'd never post.

at the moment- the bible thumpers are less annoying by the nigeria inheritance thing. [thats not much of a compliment]

in person i tell them i already have a church and i rattle off the name- sometime inviting them to join US.....

you know as far as someones beleifs- dont tell me- SHOW ME,. im so done with holier then thou corwd- they tell ME how to live- then are out banging heck all over town except on sunday with the fake persfrect scam of a life illusion.

I actually don't care if someone is a hypocrite or not - lie to yourself all you want.  However, you try selling it to me, and that means religion, insurance, or a new vaccuum, and I will not stick to PC BS.

i wish i could stop telemarketing calls from India. im serious. they never stop here. im on the fed and state do not call list. it is so bad- i only use my machine for my landline.

I love freaking out the biblethumpers that come to my dor. I let them give their little speach, then ask them :
"You believe in Jesus as lord, right?
They always answer yes.
"You kow Jesus was a jew, right?"
Again... yes

"So, if MY religion was good enough for YOUR lord... then I think I'll stck to it.  Have a nice day"

They dont tend to come back afterwards.

Biblethumper poking is a dangerous sport.

I refrain from the making fun of, but I do makea point of pointing out the history of their religion at them. With the right twist you get theis wonderful backspin and the heretic becomes them.

As far as respecting their beliefs, I'd like them to respect mine as well. It's hard to respect someone who fails to give you the same accordance.

But that's just my $0.02.

I have no idea why you would think it's about making fun of this guy's religious beliefs. This was the first email he sent...not exactly a great introduction.

I have no issue with him being a Biblethumper, I have an issue with him being a frigging whackjob!

I have tons of respect for anyone who believes in their religion (or any other cause) with all their heart.  I however lose a lot of that respect when tey cannot seem to get their heads out of their ases long enough to realize that just becasue their religion is the center of THEIR lives that does not mean it is or shoould be the cneter of everyone elses lives as well. Respect my decisions to follow whichever religion i see fit as I see fit to follow it, and I will show you the same respect.  try and force your belief system on me, and yuo had better duck andcover, theres going to be some fireworks.

I wasn't wanting to make fun of his beliefs, I was trying to get a scrap of entertainment from a situation that I found frustrating...namely, that I couldn't report it b/c it didn't fit into one of the categories.

Sorry, but I view that type of email as borderline harassment.

Actually, someone else did say that they had received the same one. "You're going to burn in Hell" spam, one might call it...

That was the entirety of the email. It was not in context of having a discussion of belief systems, nor was it a standard intro. Plus, it was from a guy...:)

Well, there are people who sincerely believe that it is their place to "spread the good news". Mind you, anyone who has't heard this paticular news has been living in a cave, so they really should consider the news spread. The annoying bit is, "Yeah I've heard about your religion, I just don't agree with it or your rosy-glasses brainwashed-grin view of it, so go away."

I just find the whole door-to-door routine rather self-humiliating. I mean, they're selling Jesus door to door like Amwy, or bad vacuumn cleaners. It's undignified, and in a way that tarnishes the image of the whole sect.

As ar as it being a first post, I'm fairly certain they used a login here for the sole purpose of prosthelizing to us. Any further posts will be in the same vein and/or get them banned from CM completely.

I totally agree DV! And, as I'm pretty much an "in your face" kind of bitch when challenged, so I tend to stand up for myself when warranted...:)

As an aside, I have gotten a few good laughs out of the responses posted. I mean everything from satanic worshippers, to sacrificing chickens playing D&D, and choirboys under the desk...makes one realise how easy it is to laugh at something so judgemental.

Course the idea of having a subbie dressed as a choirboy under my desk is rather titillating...

I actually don't know what the OP was all about as it was "moderated" and therefore obliterated before I could read the squirrelly email...but I got a sense of it.

When I was a kid growing up, we used to get the Jehovah's Witnesses or the Seventh Day Adventists at the front door...and my father (may he rest in peace) would open the door, and, if it was an early morning and he was wearing his robe, and feeling frisky, he'd listen to their opening pitch, and then say:

"You know, my wife and I have been seeking a new spirituality and we really are interested in your religion.  I think we are ready to find a life in Christ and join you.  Would you come in and talk with us?   ....

OH...one thing...we are very adamant about practicing nudity in our home, so please, as soon as you come in, take off all your clothes."

IT was a treat to watch the complete confusion and abject horror play on their faces.

I used a similar ploy as Emperor's dad with any door to door bible thumper: whe I could spot them coming up the walkway I'd quickly change into a towel. After opening the door, hello etc,  I'd "accidentally let the towel drop. The Jehovah's Witness would go "oh oh my" -- then I would in as a sgenteel amanner as possible ask them if they fucked for Jesus... Their hasty retreat ensued.

Re; the larger question: Do we give these thelogically totalitarians shit? Damn yes we do!!! Not only because they shoot their mouth off uninvited and deserve what they get, but as abytchgoddess4u remarked: to amuse ourselves... If the gods are so omnipotent, why can't they keep their followers to themselves?!!??

BTW, I never saw the kristianoid mail either, got Xed out by the time I got here, but I caught the  "burn in hell" theme. I'd say that if heaven is full of these rectal specimens I'll take hell any time, lol! We can do a pub crawl at every circle of the Inferno, ha ha... And all you sub girls: think of the delicious tortures and torments you will suffer for eternity -- hey, your paradise!
