Status: offline 		On May 15 2017 it was reported "Lithium Boom II And Cobalt Boom II Are Coming Soon". In that article, we looked for lithium and cobalt boom II to start in 2018 as electric vehicles (EVs) begin to take off in ever increasing numbers helped along by Tesla (TSLA) Model 3."

Then something very dramatic happened on September 11, 2017. The Chinese announced a plan to ban internal combustion engine ((NYSE:ICE)) vehicles, with no date yet set. This has led to the start of the EV/lithium/cobalt boom II somewhat earlier than I had thought. Added to this the UK, Germany, France, and the Netherlands have all announced plans to ban ICE vehicles, as has the cities of London, Paris, Stuttgart, Mexico City, Madrid, and Athens. Norway plans to go 100% EVs and is well on the way, and India hopes to go fully electric by 2030.

The main beneficiaries to date from the China ban plan announcement have been some EV manufacturers, the lithium miners, and to a lesser extent the cobalt and graphite miners.

The ICE equipped cars will soon become collector's cars and will be driven under restrictions as regulated by the feds.

For those still living take heed, I say by 2050, the gas/diesel ICE is history.

Status: offline 		At the rate companies are trying to develop them, I'm guessing that well before 2050 cars that are not self-driving will be banned from public roads, and relegated to racetracks and demolition derbies only. Won't matter if they are EV or IC if they are manual drive.

I'm glad I'll be long dead before that happens here in the US. Nothing is more fun than cruising around the countryside in a hot rod with a fat V8.

Plus since they're not a democracy, they can move at a faster rate that western nations. Even if they don't have a date set, doesn't mean they're not working on it. The last thing the ruling party wants is a revolution, and keeping the people healthy and happy by keeping the air clean is part of preventing that.

As I have never heard anyone ever assert these connections, they seem to be apparent to you and only you. So do please enlighten the rest of us ...

Do you think the EV cars will cost more, less, or the same as ICE vehicles now, in China?

Born in Detroit, was a motorhead by 10 and feel the same way. Uncle's brand new 55 Chevy power pack and the other's 57 Ford Fairlane 292 I think. They had such a sweet purr with factory dual exhaust.

Better than that ubiquitous 5.0 Mustang. 19 cent/gal. gas helped and for Ethyl...remember Ethyl ? Tough old bird.

The 'freedom' is to make more money by not paying to keep air and water as clean as the high standards the govt. did set.

Americans (including the looney ones) should hope that China follows thru on that, cuz..

"Asian air pollution was, by far, the biggest contributor to smog in the West, the researchers found. The team also looked at other factors, such as wildfires and methane from livestock. Asian air pollution contributed as much as 65% of the western U.S. ozone increase, while wildfire emissions supplied less than 10% and methane about 15%.

Since 1992, Asia has tripled its emissions of smog-forming chemicals such as nitrogen oxides. Though China and India are the worst offenders, North and South Korea and Japan also contribute, said Lin, who is also a research scholar at Princeton University.

The smog levels in the western U.S. have increased each year despite a 50% reduction in U.S. emissions of smog-forming pollutants."

I don't know that the Chinese govt. cares all that much beyond the elite. They want to cut both smog and imports.
