Marini -> Another day, another "small" mass shooting (11/14/2017 7:22:51 PM)

Is this the wave of the future?
Gunman was shot dead, as he attempted to ram the gates into a schoolyard.
4 were killed/and 10 injured, before he could cause any more carnage.

What if he had not been shot, and he was able to enter the school?

Churches? schools? wtf?

DM--Shooting at CA elementary school

From the article:
Officials say Kevin Hanson Neal, 43, began firing at 7.52 on Tuesday morning
He opened fire near his home on Bobcat Lane in Rancho Tehama then drove off
On his way through the town, he shot a woman and her child in their truck
The mother suffered life-threatening wounds and remains in hospital
A second child was hurt at Rancho Tehama Elementary School and airlifted
He was identified as Alejandro Hernandez, 6, and is expected to recover
He attempted to gain entry to the school, but it was on lockdown
Police shot the gunman dead near the school after a brief gunfight
Ten people, including the two children injured, remain in the hospital

I wonder if the pro gun crowd on these boards will ever get tired of defending the gun ownership laws in this country? Just one nut killing after another and all they can think about is their toys... It is sickening and I am beginning to think they are just as insane as those killing women and children.

Marini talking to these assholes is not going to change their selfish minds. Pointing out the absurdity of their stand on guns is sadly a waste of time

Butch, talking to most people on these boards, is rarely ever going to change their minds.
That is why, doing the back/and forth, is using futile with many here.

I just think the smaller "mass" shootings, should be posted, also.
This nut rammed his car into the gate, trying to get into a school.
What if he had not been killed?

kdsub -> RE: Another day, another "small" mass shooting (11/14/2017 7:53:09 PM)

It would have made no difference to them how many children were murdered... they would say ...arm the teachers... It would be someones fault other than gun laws...Maybe making the school gun free would be the cause... maybe the Air Force didn't report this guy either... believe me they will have some silly reason so they can keep their bloody fingers on their triggers.

And once again it is not because people can buy guns but because
the cops didn't follow their own rules. He was being prosecuted
for domestic violence (stabbing someone) which , by federal law
means that they should have taken his guns, which they did not
do. Then when he was shooting in the neighborhood and threatened
people the police ignored the complaints. He shouldn't have been
walking around let alone armed.

I agree Butch, there are a lot of issues involved here.
I am not advocating banning guns and gun sales, that is not going to happen in our lifetime, so I don't waste my
time on that one.

A great start for ME, would be, banning the sale of assault weapons, and high powered weaponry.

Had the current laws been enforced it wouldn't have happened.

As already pointed out to you
A. they are only guns that look like assault weapons
B The normal hunting rifle is far more powerful than the "assault weapons'.
C. More people are killed with hammers than long guns.

kdsub -> RE: Another day, another "small" mass shooting (11/14/2017 8:04:20 PM)

Well good luck on that Marini...those weapons are their Holy Grail...and the NRA their Gods... see what I mean about silly reasons above. You are right about these incidents need to be pointed out... but it would be a full time job reporting all unnecessary gun deaths.

This Saturday morning, 11-18-2017, approximately 600,000 deer hunters will take to the woods in Wisconsin for an 11 day deer hunt. Not a single hunter will murder someone in the coming 11 days. It is not the guns. I own 6 and I have never shot anyone.

I think they go after churches and schools because they know that will get them the most attention. And while it would be nice if the media didn't plaster their name and pic all over the internet, they are more interested in ratings than actually trying to slow this down. Interestingly enough while I have seen this story several times in the past hours since it happened, I haven't seen much at all about the guy in Tampa they are claiming is a serial killer and has already killed 5 people in the past month and a half. I guess it's not news unless you kill then all at the same time.

I wonder if any of the anti gun nuts are going to admit that we don't enforce the laws we already have and adding more isn't going to stop this. Ok I don't wonder that, it was a lie. I know the assholes don't really care about the folks being killed. They just want to use this to further their own agendas. But I agree, it is sickening.

Known to law enforcement
Johnston said the gunman had "prior contacts with law enforcement." In January the man was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon in a case that involved the neighbor who died Tuesday, Johnston said.
Johnston added that the woman had a restraining order against the shooter.

Let's break this down for those who insist guns are the problem:

In January the man was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon

Gee, why the hell didnt the cops seize his guns then? In a case like this, it would be standard procedure in most jurisdictions....

Johnston added that the woman had a restraining order against the shooter.

Again, with this, local law enforcement are responsible under federal law to remove guns from the possession of the person, since under federal law, the shooter could not legally possess firearms in the first place.

But hey, its not the fault of the police for not enforcing the damn laws, not their job....

Nope, its the fault of the people who own guns, support gun ownership yadda yadda yadda yadda.

I love it, the cops and local authority fucked up and did not take his guns (which is what you people want) and you still blame the fact that people can buy guns?

From the ATF website, the people who cannot legally possess firearms, again:

convicted in any court of a crime punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding one year;

who is a fugitive from justice;

who is an unlawful user of or addicted to any controlled substance (as defined in section 102 of the Controlled Substances Act, codified at 21 U.S.C. § 802);
who has been adjudicated as a mental defective or has been committed to any mental institution;

who is an illegal alien;

who has been discharged from the Armed Forces under dishonorable conditions;
who has renounced his or her United States citizenship;

who is subject to a court order restraining the person from harassing, stalking, or threatening an intimate partner or child of the intimate partner; or
who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence.
The guy had a restraining order against him

The GCA at 18 U.S.C. § 992(n) also makes it unlawful for any person under indictment for a crime punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding one year to ship, transport, or receive firearms or ammunition.
The shooter had been arrested for suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, and still under investigation for that charge

The cops should have seized those guns in January.

But I dont see anyone calling for their heads on a platter.

Lucylastic -> RE: Another day, another "small" mass shooting (11/15/2017 5:14:16 AM)

well plenty of other countries have problems with mental illness among their citizens, but rarely have shooting massacres. gun deaths and gun suicide.
moot point.

Does the US deal with mental health issues and those with mental health issues the same ways as other countries?

The point isn't moot.

What I don't get is why the pro-gun crowd keeps saying 'it would work if only all of these millions of people across the country always did their job perfectly every single time and never made mistakes' without recognizing that the issue is that a system where they are expected to do so is exactly the problem.

Until we have SkyNet, we'll need to rely on people to do their jobs.
