Bring back the bloody Empire!
Make Britain Great again!

We're having trouble keeping hold of fucking Scotland at the moment: an Empire would be impossible for the job-dodging sow in number ten to handle: she's already pissed away a billion pounds because she can't concentrate on the one job she's meant to be doing...

Steady on, old chap. Strong and Stable.

For some reason, ever since the General Election and whenever I read that phrase, I hear it in my head sung over and over to the tune of 'The Men of Harlech'.

Not this then? Perspective I suppose, with all the military coups and so on and so forth.

I've currently got Laurel and Hardy's theme tune on my phone and get a petty and mean spirited pleasure from playing that whenever May shows her face on the telly...

That's also pretty stirring, admittedly.

Did you know the later, real-life Zulu Chief Mangosuthu Buthelezi played his own great granddad, the then Zulu King, in that? Not a lot of people know that.

'Petty and mean' can be very cheering at times. [;)]

Indeed. I'm starting to think it might be unfair to Stan and Olly though, as people liked them.

Mugabe should have been kicked out years ago. Sadly I think the corrupt will only be replaced by more of the same.

They've spent the last twenty years voting him out, mate: mostly successfully, but there's always been a reason why the vote didn't matter and he's still president...

There's a sense of anticipation amongst Zimbabweans - but ...

"If the ousted Mr Mnangagwa does come back to succeed Mr Mugabe as president, his credentials are not too dissimilar.

Another veteran of the country's war of independence, he has been considered a key link between the army, intelligence agencies and Zanu-PF party. He has been accused of masterminding atrocities during the country's civil war and attacks on opposition supporters.

In the last four decades, the country has been dominated by veterans and the military looks to have intervened to keep that status quo."

Obviously: the army were fairly happy with the situation until Mugabe deposed him and stated that his wife would be taking over as president instead, weren't they?

He must not have ever consulted Roman history. Even Caesar had to be reminded by his senate no less, that you can't mistreat or fuck with the army. Without the army, [you] have nothing. The army is the 'dic' that supports the...'tator.'

Caesar from then on...showered the army.

I think the people who run the former colonies regard the classics as decadent European nonsense that should be ignored.[;)]

Not so sure of that in Mugabe's case. He loves his Savile Row suits and his cricket. An ardent admirer of Thatcher, too. Despite his being a 'Marxist-Leninist', albeit of a very crude flavour. A funny old stick ... as well as being a tyrannical, murdering shit. Well, it'll be great to see the evil piece of filth go, anyway - regardless of the utter turd who might take his place (and there are plenty of them in the forefront of Zimbabwean politics).

Well they should rid themselves of that conceit particularly as reflected in how quickly it seems the army acted here.
I mean who in the dictator business doesn't know this ?

Even Caesar eventually went too far and he wasn't in power that long and not close to 93.

If he was, his Marxist/Leninism was covered (prettied up) by some extraordinary capitalist fascist clothes.

The progressively more and more US fascist capitalism is hidden, or deflected and obscured by population, i.e, membership in the capitalist part in combination with the debt that the slaves are allowed ?

As long as you have just enough fascists followers in the halls of power, then you can have and will tap into a huge capitalist population and the US has millions who have billion$ in free speech the greatest fascist enabling tool in history, creating and ensuring their covert path to power in a reputed democratic republic...the perfect cover.

I see the biggest difference in a practical sense, the Leninist/Marxist, wouldn't...lend you the money to pretend you can live the good life. They pretended to pay the people and they pretended to work.

The capitalist fascist is all too eager to lend you the money, even some of which...you might not pay back. They'll even refinance until one crosses that Rubicon.

However Mugabe and 'leaders' like him understand that for such small poor countries, using Armies is faster and more cost-effective.
