this is going to be a distinction in your vehemence you are going to have a hard time making.

while not defending trump (that has to be said because you, like so many others here cannot take arguments at face value) in his mislabeling a video containing a non-muslim dutch citizen as a muslim, what makes his statements different is, as greta pointed out, the problem is nevertheless real.

that differentiates what trump just did from the "fake news" he laments, presumably where people are making stuff up out of whole cloth, wishing/wanting it to be so, although I agree this has some elements of that in it also, but less from trump, and more from the source of the video.

the two camps are similar perhaps in some acute sense of inaccuracy, but they are not the same in regards that the charge of "hypocrisy" is totally justified. that doesn't mean for a moment that I don't wish trump werent more careful when he talks. he seems to lack a desirable level of circumspection and in that regard, sometimes does rash, if not stupid things.

however, and maybe this is the most important part, nice great, huge rather, leaps to put trump, based apparently on a couple of tweets, in the camp of hitler and all sorts of other despicable groups throughout history. you have no business criticizing other peoples' intelligence.

Looking at the sources.

I can conclude:

NOBODY has clear sources stating that this man was not a Muslim.

The only clear information is that, he is not an immigrant. Or not a Muslim immigrant (which to me just indicates that he did not migrate from a Muslim country)

And daily mail lied that De Telegraaf quote any source about him not being a Muslim, since Snopes claim De Telegraaf has NO religion mentioned.

In another words. He looks like middle eastern man who has 99.9% chance of being Muslim.

But born in Netherlands. So the only thing that is wrong so far is that, he is not an immigrant. But whether he is Muslim or not, is still not verified by anybody.

still---trump apparently got it wrong in that regard. the question becomes to me, is this completely analogous to the "fake news charge" that jeff is leveling at him, and as I said, perhaps more importantly, is this an instance that puts trump in the camp where jeff seemingly wants him---with hitler and the kkk.

The key part of the statement is ""Whether it is a real video" which clearly indicates that the president and his staff are not required to hold themselves to the same standard as anyone that does not directly support them.

Now there is a word for this.

Hypocrisy.

It also is a direct tactic from the propaganda campaign of Josef Goebbels, one of the master minds behind the attack on a German radio station by the Polish military in 1939.

It didnt matter if the attack was real, it just had to look real in the minds of the average German citizen to justify plunging the world into a war.

We already know that radicalized Islamic groups are a threat, we dont need justification to respond.

What we dont need is a president that uses tactics he criticizes others for to get his message out.

It's worth remembering that one of Goebbel's more recent successors, Vladislav Surov (Putin's resident spin doctor and media manipulator) has spent the bulk of his political career spreading fake news about like manure in order to drown out any dissenting and honest reportage in a torrent of shite.
But of course, America's president has never even spoken to Putin, so it's unlikely that he's noticed that it's a lot easier to devalue news outlets you disapprove of by associating them with nonsense than it is to legally or illegally silence them...
