People are Othered and discriminated against not (simply) because of the color of their skin (or other phenotypes) but because of their beliefs and practices associated with some “imagined culture.”"

It's not discriminating to be disapproving of people who support and champion a religion that promotes wife beating the same way it's not discriminating to be disapproving of people who identfy as Nazis and who champion Hitler beliefs.

People want to support a belief system that supports beating of wives, go ahead men and women and fly that flag. BUT I REFUSED to ever support a religion that encourages beating their wives!

And it's not racism. If a Muslim ditch his support for pro wife beating horrendous religion. I will embrace him or her regardless what colour he or she is from.

Yes, beliefs divides us. Otherwise, I guess we should all be embracing Nazism and respect their beliefs to wanna gas jews.

And you would have to call yourself a racist in the future, if we go by this dude's definition. For being anti-Nazis.

His death cult friends despise Jews, even mass slaughter them if given the opportunity (along with Yazidis, Hindus, and everyone else)

But that's okay...

bounty44 -> RE: Trump retweets UK far right group anti-Muslim videos (11/30/2017 6:30:15 PM)

when you can pretty much redefine words to mean something other than what is intended, they start to essentially mean nothing.

which is increasingly the case for "racism" when it comes to the left---and all the more so given your post. is what youre talking about "a thing?" I trust it is, but call it something else.

and when you can invent words like "islamophobia" and "homophobia" to shame and denigrate people who simply disagree with you on certain matters, its despicable.

Lucylastic -> RE: Trump retweets UK far right group anti-Muslim videos (11/30/2017 7:12:26 PM)

Prejudice is prejudice however you slice it.

Going off on a tangent whenever muslims are mentioned in order to defend a prejudice against a whole religion by saying that it isn't specifically "racist" looks like clutching at straws. Disliking specific aspects of a theology and castigating everyone you identify as a certain religion through their culture, country of origin or dress are two very different things.

Finding things you dislike about specific aspects of Islam and hating all muslims are not the same. One is a critical appraisal of religious belief, the other is prejudice.

Let's not let any of that hide the truth.

Donald Trump retweeted badly labelled images accompanied by an inaccurate commentary, which taken together were designed to promote the hared of all muslims. The original tweets were deliberately out of context and the very definition of the fake news he says he hates so much.

When called out on it by both left and right wing politicians and commentators in the UK, he attacked the UK government on law and order, an area where he has nothing to boast about, having done nothing about the wave of mass killings which mark the US out from most of the rest of the world.

And all because he is thin-skinned and can't take moderate balanced criticism when he dishes out ill-considered criticism of others on a regular basis. We all know people who can give it but can't take it in return and we don't respect them for it.

The best that can be said of his actions is that he was intelligently playing to that part of his support which is anti-muslim and even that is being generous. If he is such a great businessman or manager, how come he is so poor at forming long term relationships with his partners?

The chief self-appointed critic of fake news is the chief purveyor of fake news. No surprise there.

Greta75 -> RE: Trump retweets UK far right group anti-Muslim videos (12/1/2017 2:58:51 AM)

The REAL problem is, Islam is still worldly recognised as a peaceful religion.

So everyone ignores all the atrocities done by it's leader Muhammad.

Whereas in Nazism, everyone is taught Hitler is evil, so nobody is crying racism or prejudice when people are nasty towards Nazis.

It's like being a Fundie Christian also has a negative connotation. And lefties love to attack Fundies for blocking abortion and shit.

But if ya attack Islam for anything, it's prejudice. But not when you attack Christians apparently for their fundamental beliefs.

That's the real hypocrisy.

As a Muslim, I can say the tweet was really hurtful and stupid. But it's good to know most people agree how stupid the tweet was. If anything, I think the tweet made any doubts anyone had about how racist Trump is more clear.

Right.....
Are you a Muslim trying to claim that Muslim is a race now?
*Yawns*
What kind of Muslim are you? That you don't know that Muslim isn't a race?

Where did she claim that Muslim is a race????

She said it was more proof that Trump is a racist. Try reading posts properly before you make a comment. (Yes I know many have told you that before but it is still not happening)

Thank you. This 'Muslim isn't a race' is a tump card (pun intended) used by all the bigots. 'Oh, I can say whatever the heck I want about those Muslims, because guess what?! Muslims isn't a race! Ha. Got you'

I don't disagree with your criticisms of trump, nor your insight into how the phrase "its not racism" sometimes might be interpreted when its applied to criticisms of islam.

however, id stop short at saying what he did, or even the original mis-labeling, are "designed" instances "promoting the hatred of all muslims." that's a default go-to position of the left whenever any criticisms are made and its without merit.

im not rejecting the basis or premise of the article, just that a different phrase should be used to describe the phenomenon.

all people aren't doing that. its likely in most instances its simply a response to a charge that's not accurate, not a preventative blanket that grants them immunity from criticism. quite frankly, people on the right get tired of everything being raaaaaaaaaaaaaaacism and being accused of it repeatedly.

and what you've just done when you consign everyone who uses a particular phrase to being a "bigot" is show yourself as a typical non-thinking, knee jerk comrade.

you actually want genuine deep insightful intellectual conversation about it, then act that way.

Prejudice against Muslims is good and it is justified because their cult practices include the mass slaughter of innocents as well as the brutal subjugation of women, and many of their other violent teachings and behaviors are inhumane to the extreme.

Their cult is not compatible with democratic principles or with ideals such as upholding human dignity

Poll after poll proves that large numbers of Muslims approve of the violence that their Koran and other teachings push at them

Much the same arguments can be made against republicans, but you have a real issue with broadbrushing them in the same fashion, don't you?

Thanks for the backup, idiot. That's precisely the point - people should be prejudiced against those things they believe to be problematic, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with voicing ones concerns, and being disagreeable. Having opinions

"How dare anyone be prejudiced against anything, or disagree with moronic leftist trash [sm=runaway.gif] "

It's difficult to see how you can arrive at that position logically, bounty. Prof Hall says that "Race ... is a “floating signifier,” meaning that it is a fluid concept which has specific connotations during certain moments in history. Races, in short, have never been exclusively biologically determined but rather politically constructed by powerful people, usually dominant groups in societies."

Thus Islam isn't a 'race' but, then, other groups that we're comfortable referring to as 'races' aren't, either. "... there is no such thing as race or races, traditionally understood. Scientists long ago proved that race is not a biological reality but a myth, a socially constructed concept. Yet, despite the data, human beings have been programmed to associate specific things to certain “racial groups”; things like intelligence, work ethic, family values, and behavior. As such, we have been brainwashed to think that some groups are inherently better than others, and that the White race — to be frank — is better" than all."

In short: you want a new term, but the original term wasn't fit for purpose anyway and doesn't make sense the way it's been used when talking about 'racism'.

I always find it hilarious how keen the sort of rightard who insists that 1984 is an attack on the idea of socialism always seem to be to impose newthink by enforcing newspeak. Small wonder they've been so keen on the spacehopper and his team of twonks and twats's attempts to skullfuck the very notion of objective reality to death over the last year...
