Some years ago, we in this district had a congressman by the name of Stenholm who had been the congressman for a number of terms.

Okay, granted he was a democrat.

A democrat that had a nasty habit of pissing off the DNC.

You see, this particular democrat had the nasty habit of contacting his constituents every time there was a something that came up in congress that directly affected his district.

And he did not just contact the Dems of the district, but all voters.

Anyway, it was his voting record in congress that pissed off the DNC because, it seemed that he voted the way the district felt on a topic.

So every primary, the DNC pushed for his replacement by a toe the line democrat, and every primary the democrats of the district kept choosing him as the one to run.

He probably would still be in congress if the district had not been redrawn in such a manner as to make the GOP the majority party, and much to the surprise of the GOP, the guy that replaced him ended up not voting in any way shape or fashion they way the GOP wanted. His vote went to what ever benefited his home town, which was not necessarily benefiting the entire district.

So the former congressmen from the old independent districts got voted out and a complete self serving ass got in.

Depressing, but not surprising, sadly.

when you identify yourself as the author of the work you are quoting Michael, that takes care of the notion of "self plagiarizing" which ultimately means, passing off what are you writing as new work without attribution.

Yeah, I know, but I've been using: "I reserve the right to plagiarize myself" for about twenty years, now, especially when I'd re-run some stuff because I needed to go on vacation or when I needed to take some personal time.

In fact, to be fair, because some of the same issues keep coming up, time and time, again, I am sure that I have "plagiarized" myself on issues where my opinion hasn't changed. After twenty years, even Jack Anderson got repetitive, to a degree [:D]

You have cmail, bounty

Peace,

Michael

More the opposite, I'd have thought: weren't you saying a page back that you don't want the miscreants, shit stirrers and whoever else posts on here stinking up your blog?

I don't remember the words "stinking up" (actually, I said I didn't want to "allow access" to the aforementioned ne'er-do-wells), but I could be mistaken.

That to the side, who is anyone to tell me not to post here? I could be wrong, it's been a long time since I read the complete T.O.S., but I'm almost positive such a "statement" is in violation thereof (I know such statements USED TO be).

Thanks for checkin' in, though.

I don't believe constructive criticism is ever in violation, except maybe for your ego.

But you seem to have trouble with things like facts, truth, and reality, as well as anyone who attempts to disrupt your fragile mind with any of them.

It seems a special snowflake like you should cling to the safe space bosom of your blog, where you can reign supreme.

Have you run off everyone in your actual life, Blanche?

JVoV -> RE: A Return to the Way Things Aught to Be (11/30/2017 2:02:28 PM)

You know, if you gave a damn about how thangs oughtta be, you'd read the proper documentation about electing officials, and then just what those officials are capable of doing and supposed to do once they're on the job.

<Cough cough Constitution cough cough>

But please keep in mind that the idjits you favor have already shut down our federal government once. Which is more than any terrorist organization has accomplished.

Could you point out for me, please where I mentioned legal/illegal (cough cough Constitution cough cough)? I didn't. In fact, I never said anything that the shit-fer-brains "representatives" did was illegal; only that it was (in my opinion) unethical and counter-intuitive to the way the congressional bodies were set up.

If you can't point that out to me, I'd suggest that you're the one who is having some issue with facts. Not that it would be the first time.

JVoV -> RE: A Return to the Way Things Aught to Be (11/30/2017 3:17:26 PM)

It seems quite intuitive to me. Having to decide every issue democratically would be tedious, at best.

And it's not like any bill is ever simple, or one single issue.

70% of the country supports reasonable gun laws, yet we see no progress on that issue. It's too soon. Hopes & prayers.

Now, what I believe is that Republicans could come up with a reasonable solution to gun violence and these mass shootings that people want to see, while keeping the Second Amendment in sight. Even if they only legislated exactly what JIF and Bama tell them to, that would be a step towards fixing the problem.

And then Trump gets a win. Republicans don't seem crazy. The TV news tells us how much safer we are, and everybody lives happily ever after.

But since that isn't happening, then we'll have a more competitive 2018, and 2020 is wide open, as the people that don't listen to their voters, or don't fulfill campaign promises get voted out of office.

And when the Democrats have power again, a much stronger gun law will be passed than Republicans could approve now.

Right after you point out where I said legal.

I said "oughtta". Which, by the way is the word you should have used in your title.

Wtf kinda mouth breather pleb doesn't know an aught from an ought?

JVoV -> RE: A Return to the Way Things Aught to Be (12/1/2017 5:16:24 AM)

Yes, I concede that you're an idiot. Congratulations.

aught
[awt]
noun
anything whatever; any part:
for aught I know.
adverb
Archaic.in any degree; at all; in any respect.

ought
[awt]
auxiliary verb
(used to express duty or moral obligation):
Every citizen ought to help.
(used to express justice, moral rightness, or the like):
He ought to be punished. You ought to be ashamed.

But I'm the one with whom it's a waste of time to try to have a rational conversation?

Once again, I tried to interact with you in a reasonable manner despite the fact that you persist in acting like a spoiled, little brat.

You know how I call Shrillary "she-cunt"? You've provided a fine example of a "he-cunt". Congratulations!

Oh, by the way, don't EVER let a wrong word slip into one of your posts [:D]

bounty44 -> RE: A Return to the Way Things Aught to Be (12/1/2017 6:27:27 AM)

the accidental usage, if that's what it is, of a homonym, does not make one a "mouth breather pleb" or an "idiot."

its simply evidence of a writing pratfall that everyone who writes often falls victim to at one time or another. that you want to make it a sticking point of criticism is juvenile.

people sometimes like to point out that youre one of the more reasonable people on the left to have actual conversations with. what youre doing here belies that.

Be careful, bounty. You missed out a comma apostrophe(Edit courtesy of another GrammarNazi who is, none-the-less correct. My fingers got out in front of my brain, there) in "youre". You might be next on his "mouth breather" list (Nothing happens on the list, by the way).

EDIT: And not to put too fine a point on it, but "Ought to" would have been more correct than "oughtta". I'm pretty sure the latter isn't even a word. Strange, having originated from a Grammar Nazi, no?

Peace,

Michael

Lucylastic -> RE: A Return to the Way Things Aught to Be (12/1/2017 6:38:30 AM)

its an apostrophe not a comma
apostrophe='
comma=,

bounty44 -> RE: A Return to the Way Things Aught to Be (12/1/2017 6:48:19 AM)

when I write informally, I try to be as efficient as possible without losing meaning. so "you're" becomes "youre" and wherever possible, apostrophes disappear.

I also don't capitalize things, usually, unless its necessary for clarity.

actually had a grad school advisor ask me about a la bell hooks. and I said no, its not a political statement or a rage against grammar rules, just an ease of typing.

im (as opposed to I'm) aware im doing it and I like the informality of it.

I hear ye. I just didn't want you to be next on this all-important list (Nothing happens on the list) [:D]

JVoV -> RE: A Return to the Way Things Aught to Be (12/1/2017 7:02:45 AM)

Bounty - Maybe just add some punctuation in your signature, so it can be placed appropriately by anyone that needs to do so.

I think that in a world where we're constantly texting and Tweeting, we're used to seeing punctuation neglected, in order to save precious post space for the actual message. Not to mention acronyms replacing commonly used phrases. So I can deal with that.

I did break up with a guy that used netspeak in real life though. Bastard lol'ed me. I swore off millennials for months after that.

JVoV -> RE: A Return to the Way Things Aught to Be (12/1/2017 7:04:15 AM)

But I will cut a bitch that doesn't use an Oxford comma.
