How do you personally define the word "News"?

I asked Siri to define the word "News" for me this morning - here is how she answered:

Status: offline 		Twitter/X is not a News App, any more than Facebook, TikTok, or any other social media app, although news is available on all of those platforms. Twitter/X Is a social media app that allows people to connect. That can often be more powerful than the news anyway. If it weren't for Twitter, there would have been no #MeToo movement.

But like any coral.media platform, not all accounts are knowledgeable in what they speak or reputable at all. That's pretty much anything on the internet though.

Has George Stephenopolous tweeted that Trump is a rapist, X would not have been in any way responsible for that, unlike ABC News. Big difference.

I don't think I have a personal opinion of Elon; if I did, it probably wouldn't matter to him anyway.

I don't use X. I don't have a problem with people that do, as long as they don't believe everything they read on there.

What is this sudden issue with the CIA? Why wasn't it dealt with in Trump's first term? Since I have been alive, Republicans have spent more years in the White House than Dems, meaning they've had more control over CIA activities. I have no illusions that everything they do is good and benevolent. The Agency is a tool of spreading American values throughout the world. Some parts of the world don't like that though. Dumbasses.

I'm not sure what qualifies an app to be in a specific category in app stores. Trying to find an album in a record store separating music into genres usually confuses me too.

If the proposed Department of Government Efficiency doesn't become a political tool, I believe it can be hugely beneficial. I may be a social conservative, but I am still a fiscal conservative. When taxpayer money is used, quantitative results should be expected. A lot of agencies have a bad habit of abusing their current funding just before the fiscal year ends, in order to inflate the budget for the next year. That needs to end.

Status: offline 		I'm not sure what you mean by the "fine people hoax". When Trump said there were fine people on both sides? Those words came out of his mouth all in a row like that on live TV. So I wouldn't call it a hoax. I would agree that some took Trump's comment and ran with it, giving it meaning that may not have been intended. But he said it. You can probably see it on YouTube. Only Trump can know for sure what he actually meant, although I doubt he would want to clarify.

I think he was just talking out of his ass like usual and ran amuk with it, so said some dumb shit that got played a lot. It's a good sound bite, especially with the dudes chanting "Jews will not replace us" just before.

X is a company, operating in countries with no freedom of speech protections or privacy laws. As such, it must disclose user data to those governments or may suffer legal consequences.

Also, X is a platform for free speech
Disinformation and foreign interference likely runs rampant and unchecked.

If it's important😊, you should just quote the damn post. Or maybe use your own words. Since you didn't, I have no idea what that fine people hoax would be. It is also important to note that posts on X can be removed and I think edited now. So it may have said something important back then, but now could just say McRib is back.

Status: offline 		I like that people have a way to notify others of goings-on in their community, or in their field of expertise.

I like to verify credentials of so-called "experts" though. Captain Kangaroo was neither a Captain nor a kangaroo. That left me with trust issues. I do understand that people do not have to have degrees and tears of experience in a field to be right about certain things though. Still, I may like Paula Deen's butter casserole recipe, but not her take on race relations.

I find it problematic that X is creating any content though and then calling it journalism. AI is being used as the editor and that's just not good. Or perhaps I'm misunderstanding and X just uses AI like Facebook uses their algorithms. Otherwise X could be pushing conspiracy theories and propaganda as fact. That would be bad. It sounds like that could be happening? At least it's in the realm of possibility, considering the number of foreign bots that have been uncovered on social media sites the last few years. It could just be like the Google homepage though, giving news stories based on your area and interests.

I do understand the world moving towards the internet for news though. Most of us have our phones set to give us news reports on certain topics, or at least we get generic notifications when important stuff happens.

Cataracts and retina detachment. I was getting steroid injections in my left eye, but I think at this point, the risk outweighs the benefits.

So putting people in charge of healthcare like RFK Jr and Dr Oz just scares me.

I had to download TokTok earlier to try to figure out how to open some damn antiseptic spray. That was just dumb. I still don't have it open.

Most politicians simply say "no comment" and that's that, whereas Trump will spend hours on end completely avoiding the topic, leaving people believing he actually said something. And that is somehow more satisfying than a "no comment".

Status: offline 		I just watched John Oliver's segment about Elon last month. Kinda fucking scary that one person could have so much power.

Ukraine's efforts against Russia depend on Musk's satellite internet, which he's donated, and gas since regretted that decision.

Musk was anti-Civid restrictions because it shut his Tesla factories down.

The alt-tight is now free to run rampant on Twitter.

The scariest part is that there are supposed to be government rules and regulations to prevent things like this from happening, such as fair trade practices and anti- monopoly laws, but neither party has questioned anything yet.

I worry what will happen when/if Elon and Trump have a falling out. They both have massive egos, so it's only a matter of time.
