Cheap Labor?
 
 Isn't that what the whole immigration issue is about?   Business doesn't want to pay a decent wage,   Consumers don't want expensive produce,    Government will tell you that Americans don't want the jobs    But the bottom line is cheap labor. "The phrase "cheap labor" is a myth, a farce, and a lie.  There is no such thing as "cheap labor."
  
Take, for example, an illegal  Mexican who sneaks in here with his wife and  five children.  He takes a job for five or six dollars an hour.  At that wage  with six dependents he pays no income tax, yet at the end of the year if he files income tax he gets  an "earned income credit" of up to $3,200 free.
 
  He qualifies for Section 8 housing and subsidized rent,  He qualifies for food stamps.   He qualifies for free (no deductible, no co-pay) health care.  His children get free breakfasts and lunches at school.  He requires bilingual teachers and books.   He qualifies for relief from high energy bills.  If they are or become, aged, blind or disabled they qualify for SSI.  Once qualified for SSI they can qualify for medicare. All of this is at that taxpayers expense.  He doesn't have to worry about car insurance, life  insurance, or homeowners insurance.  Taxpayers provide Spanish language  signs, bulletins and printed material.  He cannot be fired, harassed, or sued.
 
He and his family receive the equivalent of $20 to $30 an hour in benefits.   Working Americans are lucky to have $5 or $6 an hour left after paying their bills and his.  They also pay for increased crime, graffiti, and trash cleanup.

They steal them through phony Social Security cards (A Deportable Federal Felony) Driver's Lisenses, and other fraudulent documents.
If an American Citizen were caught doing those things they'd be tried and jailed.

The continued conquest {In this country} to drive down the cost of labor with low wages is a ''pox'' upon society. It represents a greater separation of classes; and an ever diminishing middle class. But the average layman haven't quite figured it out yet  ; }

Status: offline 		*shrugs* my LEGAL immigrant roommate's father worked for $2/hr when they first moved to america. aside from taking advantage of public schooling, her family didn't have much more than that in benefits. most migrant workers make not much more than that, if that.

i think that's pretty damn cheap.

by the way, more americans than first or second generation legal or illegal immigrants take advantage of those benefits you just outlined, i think :)

Status: offline 		Do you guys ever stop to realize that it is you that is the problem?  You are the one's that cause all the things you are bitching about.  Who is President.  Illegal immigrants.  Minimum wages.  Taxes.  It is all you.  You have no one to blame but yourself.  You are in control of your own destiny.  You pays your money and you takes your choice.  You do not step up at the polls, this is the shit you have to deal with.  You demand something for nothing, this is the shit you have to deal with.

Basically what I am saying is that after all these bitching threads it all boils down to one thing.  You made your bed.  Now it is time for you to lie in it.

I am not even sorry if that sounds harsh.  That is reality and maybe it is time the whiners stopped their whining, got off their asses and started doing something about it.  The blacks did it.  The natives did it.  The homosexuals did it.  The women did it.  What is your excuse?

Status: offline 		actually, depending upon  on the pepending on the total gross income of the individual, the maximum EIC currently listed is $4536 for 2 or more dependants.

BTW, i work seasonal with H&RBlock, so we have to know this stuff. without the AGI, i can only give what is currently the max EIC for 2006.

hey that would be fun. to aactaully get labor that cheap. with my luck- after i spent $ on gas, feed em lunch, etc- it would be more like ME working for .20 an hour.... hehe

Sarcastic or not (I honestly can not tell), you are welcome.  I honestly do not believe there is any sense in sitting there whining and complaining about that which you have the power to change (or even that which you can not for that matter).  I see it on all too many message boards and it gets old (not to mention useless).

The power of change lies within the public.  It has been proven time and again.  No amount of pretending to make yourself look smart and educated on a message board is going to change anything.  All it does is divide people into two polar regions and in the end accomplishes absolutely nothing but creating a bunch of wasted space and bickering.  How about doing something constructive for a change?  Discuss how you, as a collective, is going to effect change.

I will give an example.  All this griping about Bush.  First, you could not do any better if you tried, I will bet My life earnings on it.  The alternative to Bush in this last campaign was a complete joke.  The public rightly sniffed it out and voted not in favor of Bush, but against Kerry.  In record numbers.  You are like an armchair quarterback.  You can call all the plays sitting there with your beer and Cheetos, but if you are so great why are you not out there on the field?

So, I will reiterate.  Do something proactive for a change.  Do not demand something for nothing.  Push for laws that slam businesses that hire illegal immigrants.  Assemble your millions march and march on Capitol Hill.  Make your voice heard where it counts.

Status: offline 		I am very, very fortunate.  I live in the best country of the world, in the best province of that country.  I have been blessed (no matter what type of losses I have suffered) and I am eternally grateful for being here.  The Prime Minister elect was not My choice, I did not vote for him, but I am confident that he is going to do the best job he possibly can and that he is infinitely better qualified for it than I am.
