shareinnc -> Bratty Behavior (8/2/2006 6:38:54 AM)

This is kind of a carry over from the bratty behavior discussion on the ask a slave/submissive forum, but it also has personal ramifications for me.

I'm interested in knowing why a dominant would accept bratty behavior from one submissive on a regular basis despite that behavior being specifically against the relationship protocols and perameters.  What is the motivation for accepting said behavior and even encouraging it by rewarding said brat with attention (the ultimate motivation for the bratty behavior in the first place).

What I am ultimately asking is, I suppose, why would a dominant claim to despise bratty behavior and yet accept it from one member of the family on a continuing basis...

Any insight is appreciated.

I guess that will be dependent on what each Dominant defines as bratty and unacceptable.. I will give give some latitude especially when I'l in a playfull mood but woo betide and brattiess first thiong in the morning or at other inappropriate times..

fyreredsub -> RE: Bratty Behavior (8/2/2006 7:28:36 AM)

attention is NOT always the reson for bratty behavior...fear can cause it too(this one comes from both sides of the fence... she has owned as well as discovered she is a natural slave)

Behavior can be seen as bratty by one person and simply spirited and playful by another.  There are those who enjoy this type of exchange or even challenge, and others who dislike it altogether.  Also when people are nervous, anxious, restless, confused, or fearful they will exhibit or (act out) those emotions in a stream of what many consider brattiness.

While I understand what you're saying...i'm not asking why people behave in a bratty way...i'm asking why those who profess to hate such behavior would tolerate it in a power exchange relationship.

It would depend on whether the Owner in question sees it as bratty or not. If He does see it as bratty, and still does nothing about it, I have no idea. Of course this comes from a Gorean viewpoint, so I honestly can't imagine this type of occurence. If it's happening, the only thing I could hazzard a guess at is it may simply not be worth it to that particular Owner to deal with His sub, for whatever personal reason He might have.

Quite simply, because they have neither the control nor the skills to deal with it and would prefer to live with what they have than risk being years without another partner.

raiken -> RE: Bratty Behavior (8/2/2006 9:04:11 AM)

From my experience, it is a personal preference.  There are those who love to complain about what they secretly enjoy.  There are those who actually enjoy the challenge of taming a brat, and training her into one who is compliant, they enjoy a certain victory in that type of interplay.  There are those who are playing king of the hill, as in "well since no one else can tame her, i will prove to all that i can".  Then there are others who simply enjoy being involved with a bratty person.  Fiestiness and sassiness are often mistook for brattiness, by some as well.  There are many variables involved as to the "why" of it.  This is just a small part of what i have observed.  i put most of it all to personal preference, and compatibility.

I did it out of desperation to have someone in the past.

But the price to my sanity was too high, so I wised up.[;)]

Sometimes it's better to tap away with a tack hammer than try to crush a behavour problem with a sledge hammer. Now if there is no attempt to correct a problem, that's a different story, but tolerating it for a time and attempting to train it way, may be a more effective and permanent method.  I feel that even when you are the Dominant, you still have to account for emotional reactions. This is just an opinion though, some may prefer to "order" it gone and if it works for them without blasting everyone's emotions, more power to them.

I agree ST. I'd have said that it is senceless to use a 15lb sledge hammer to drive a matchsick into the sand..

I am one who does not like bratty behaviour . this is not the same as someone who playfully acts as a brat. I for a long time dealt with it hoping I could slowly make it go away . in the end I had no choice but to let the relationship go away. sometimes as Dom/mes we tend to let our ego get in the way of what is reality and we do not want to appear as a failure to ourselves in letting someone act in a way that is less then what we expect we try over and over again to correct . ultimately in the end the relationship breaks down and disolves

This is why most bratty behavior becomes counterproductive.

It becomes a love/hate thing with someone who just won't change. In time, you realize this, and you have no choice but to cut your losses and learn from it. So if you see some bitterness from tops over this-it's due to the feeling of lost time and futility.

What could we have been doing with someone else, who was actually worth the investment? You never get back those moments to use with another-they are forever lost.

LA,

While I understand the answer, and for myself prefer the whole 'going another buncha years without', I didn't feel you were succinct enough in your reply.

LA feels we are all just hopeless fools ruled by our dicks and will let anything go for a steady fuck.  It is a repeating theme in her answers.
