Wicca, a manufactured religion concocted from a collection of beliefs gathered in the 1920's.

There was a time in the early days when a a number of the public Wiccan leaders claimed falsly that their craft was a direct liniage from the early days. This is something which all reputable coven i kow or associate with dispell early on in the teachings to new folk.. I know many who do have some form of solk religion handed down through thier families as mine was. However history has shown that nearly all religions have needed to start somewhere and some time, often from scatered pieces of folk law or oral traditions.. It is valid to use these and to create a belief system which if it last the test of time can be an effective religious faith for those adherents.. I should perhaps commentthat although I have been a Wiccan Priest for some 35 years and was one of the founders of the Movement in Western Australia, I also grew up in a home where we as a family worshiped the pre Christian Gods of Ireland, very basic. I used this to combine with the Wiccan format to found my own group Clan O'Sliabh which is in effect a good blend and works for us though we are small..

Any way I thank you for your comments. Once again you show yourself to be an honourable Man.. That is all I can ask of any Man.

Nope, you're not the only one.  I see religion as an artificial construct.  After all, all religion is based on human interpretation of the divine.  However, I believe the divine principle is not an artificial construct  (In other words, we didn't make God).

I follow you and I believe that if there is a "divine" being or beings .. They/It are/is the reality we live in .

Whatever we believe about the powers that be, whatever names we call them, whatever ways we worship are skewed by our fallible senses.  So I simply choose to give thanks in the way that feels best and suits me most.

I believe that the human expirence is full of temporary belief systems that should be discarded as we progress and learn more about the world . So big high 5 to you .

It just happens to involve my interpretation of ancient Celtic lore and ritual mixed with Native American spirituality in a solitary Wiccan sense.

Understanding the complex societies that birthed  religions is key to understanding who you are today and why .

Is my spiritual path outdated?  Probably.  It won't stop me.  It feels right.  Are most religions outdated?  Probably.  They probably were ten minutes after they were created.  Will that stop people?  No.  It's where they find comfort, and in that sense, no religion will ever be outdated.

Religion should be an intensly personal expirence . What it has become is one of the reasons why I believe modern religion is failing man and why more and more people only pay lip service to it .

Would anyone like any koolaid while I am up and getting more ?

SirKenin -> RE: SATAN!! (8/9/2006 2:20:37 PM)

I will pass on the koolaid, but I would love a beer as long as there are no Baptists looking.

the thing about good works and weather or not they will get you into heaven .i beleive that somewhere in the new testament it states that gods forgivenes of all his children was what will get you into heaven through the blood of christ.not good works not being a good person not begging for forgivenes for your sins but simply becouse he has already forgiven you.the new testament has alot about his forgivnes and love the old testament has alot about fire and brim stone and women being beneath man in every way.none of the bible was writen or is claimed to be writen by god exsept maybe the ten comanments are soposed to have come from god himself.i cant quote scripter and wouldent wont to if i could .i dont like orginised religion becouse i see it as others sitting back telling you how to live your life telling you from the day your born your a sinner becouse your mom and dad had sex to have you so you where born in sin .giving people complexes and guilt from the day they are born intill the day they die saying you are not good enough but its ok becouse god sent his only begoten son to be tourcherd and murderd for your sins .as a child watching tv around the holidays watching the king of kings.actully crying and everyone gorging on turkey and ham and pie.wanting to just scream leave him the hell alone .i think religion is just plain sick.people from the begining of time useing it as an exquse for wars.as an exquse for murder .i have family members who are super religiuse and i get along with them just fine .and everyone has a right to there oppinion so dont get me wrong im just stateing mine.

IB, I can see why they would offend you.  They offended me at first, too.  Then I realized that it's true to some extent, and it's pretty damned funny.  If we don't have the ability to laugh at ourselves, we've lost something important.

Then again, it seems I've met more unknowledgeable Wiccans (what was it we were calling them before?  Wicclets?  That's it!) than you have.  I used to be up to my ears in Wicclets that swore they were practicing the exact same rituals in the exact same way with the exact same implements as their 2,000 year old counterparts in Ireland.  I tend to laugh at them.  I try not to, but sometimes it just slips out.  Do certain versions of Wicca have roots in ancient practices?  Yes.  Do we know that what we're doing is spot on?  Not a chance.  Too much changes.

So I simply choose to laugh at something that others choose to fight.  By fighting it we're making it bigger and more ominous than it really needs to be.  Laughter makes it smaller and less threatening.  If you still find it offensive, it's your choice and I respect that.

IronBear -> RE: SATAN!! (8/9/2006 4:29:34 PM)

We use to get the newones like that they mostly know what the read in the Denis Wheatly books in those days and we have to de-Wheatlyise them. They'd sid around eyes popping out when they saw a working altar and the ears and noses were twitching so we called them "bunnies".. These days the bane is those who have read a couple of books (often badly written plagerised copies of some excelent works) and believe that they know all there is (Fluff Bunnies) and set up shop to form their own covens.. Sadly they want everything now without putting in the hard yards and earning the knowledge and experience necessary to opperate a sucessful coven..

I see many things which I find offensive but when I find there is a reasonable reason for them, they still are offensive but not so much that I can't ignore them as minor irritations..
